Mothers In Law: A Critical Discourse Analysis Of Mothers In Law School, Sarah M. Jordon

Mothers are an increasing student population in higher education but an extensively under-researched population. While research examining motherhood is limited, the dearth of studies examining motherhood in higher education is especially limited, with even less available in the legal field and the institutions that provide legal education. This study examined how mothers in law school made meaning of their experiences utilizing a postmodernist epistemological framework, postmodernism and performance as a theoretical framework, and critical discourse analysis as a methodology. Since March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the entire world, inflation has slowly been on the rise. OECD countries across the globe immediately felt the effects of inflation and despite the increase in wages amongst workers globally, inflation outpaced nominal wage growth for many countries. Over the past couple years, many of the capitalist OECD countries have dealt with inflation in various ways with varying degrees of success. Some Are More Equal Than Others: U.S. Supreme Court Clerkships, Tracey E. George, G. Mitu Gulati, Albert H. Yoon

The most elite and scarce of all U.S. legal credentials is serving as a Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. A close second is clerking for a Justice. A Court clerkship is a prize as well as a ticket to future success. Rich accounts of the experience fill bookshelves and journal pages. Yet the public lacks a clear story about who wins this clerkship lottery. Original analysis of forty years of clerkships tells that story. New datasets detail clerks’ paths from college to the Court to careers. Research shows that Court clerkships favor educational pedigree and status over pure achievement. …

How Can The Internal Revenue Service Improve Its Alternative Dispute Resolution Programs To Deliver Better Benefits?, Armando Gonzalez

Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution (CJCR) Blog

Most individuals and businesses file their tax return(s) and forget about the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) until it’s time to repeat the process the following year. However, sometimes disputes may arise “when a taxpayer fails to agree with an IRS finding, refuses to file a tax return, or refuses to comply with an IRS request for information.” To address some of these disputes, the IRS offers six alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) programs through its Independent Office of Appeals, where mediation is leveraged to avoid costly litigation and lengthy appeals.
