Java is a language used for programming a computer. This involves specifying at a very precise level of detail each step that is required of the computer. The facilities we provide our students in the creation of their "Turtle Art" include a step to set the color of the virtual "pen," to turn in a particular direction, and to move forward a specified number of pixels, which are simply dots on the screen. American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual-spatial language that differs from spoken language, such as English. One way is in the use and characteristics of pronouns (Meier, 1990). Pronouns in ASL, for example, are created by pointing to objects or locations in space (written in English here as POINT), and do not have a gender assigned to them as they do in English (he, she, him, her). So, where it is not specified in ASL, interpreters must decide how to interpret pronouns into English. Limited research has been done on this topic (Quinto-Pozos et al., 2015), and so a study …

This article considers the practice of encouraged gazing in Alvin Yapan's An Kubo sa Kawayanan (“The Hut in the Bamboo Grove”) (2015) as a possible exercise on revering things. As such, it is wagered to be instructive towards a reunderstanding of vision as a form of material encounter with things beyond their mere objectification. Sense of sight is argued to be a human telepathic ability, that is, a distance (tele) feeling (pathein) with and for thigns, despite and because of their indeterminate materialities. In this project from our Introduction to Hispanic Literature class titled “Cartas a Héctor” (Letters to Hector), students wrote three essays following the example of the contemporary Colombian writer Héctor Abad Faciolince. His short compositions in the collection “Palabras sueltas,” cover a number of observations from daily life. From the morbid topic of euthanasia to the simple joys of a hug, Abad Faciolince tackles everyday themes in uncommon ways, shedding new light on once thought simple ideas.

When I wrote, “Decepción,” I was thinking about a friend of mine who unexpectedly stopped talking to me. I was very disheartened and was feeling as though this friendship had been a waste of my time. The plane in the essay refers to the sensation of excitement that happens when you first meet a person, you cannot wait to get to know them better.
