The “already, not yet” is a theological concept that addresses the tension of Christian living. Although believers are free from sin’s power, they are not free from its effects. This thesis examines the “already, not yet” through a series: one graphite drawing, one colored pencil drawing, and one oil painting. The graphite drawing depicts a ruined building, the colored pencil drawing depicts a building being rebuilt, and the oil painting depicts a restored building. They represent the fallen state of man, the state of believers on earth, and the state of believers after being restored, respectively. Together, these pieces create …

Grounded in a case study in Barbuda in the Caribbean, this research examines sustainability from the perspective of what arts and heritage can contribute to community engagement and local and broader understandings about the environment. This article documents a growing body of literature recognizing the role of arts and culture, including local knowledge and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), in climate change endeavors. Art and TEK present expansive world views. Contextual information situates research done on the island of Barbuda pre- and post-Hurricane Irma. Glossed Over is a collection of interdisciplinary artworks exploring my Korean-American diasporic identity and how gender, queerness, religion, neurodivergence, and internet culture intersect within that experience. Through a blend of painting, woodworking, and sculpture, this installation carries the various elements of undefinable 한 (pronounced: han), a concept I attempt to define and contextualize in the Introduction and throughout this thesis. Home: Work in Progress (2025), examines the concept of ‘home’ through a diasporic and transcultural lens to explore how personal and collective experiences of migration shape identity. Using the clothing of my loved ones, I constructed a wearable textile sculpture—creating a physical object that gathers the pieces of my home into one place. Through video performance, I embodied my sculpture as a living, breathing space that is alive with my own memories and experiences.

This thesis investigates the financialization of art through the expanding use of art-backed loans and institutional involvement. It focuses on how artworks—once primarily valued for their aesthetic or cultural significance—are now routinely treated as financial assets within the art market. The paper uses case studies from Sotheby’s Financial Services and Mitchell F. Chan’s blockchain-based reinterpretation of Yves Klein’s Zones of Immaterial Pictorial Sensibility. Drawing on the work of Walter Benjamin, Pierre Bourdieu, and Wendy Brown, it argues that this shift undermines museums’ roles as cultural stewards and redefines the meaning of value in the art world to something more quantifiable. …

Sunbathers is a Studio Art Honors project that explores the awkward intimate nature of introspective life through autobiographical, figurative ceramic sculptures. The forms capture the relationship between body and reality. The project consists of seven portraits, varying in size and display, arranged together on pink pedestals. Each figure communicates a part of self, embodying the internal interactions of everyday existence. The sculptures perform as objects yet speak with the specific sense of being seen/presented. The repertoire for trumpet in the Baroque era is overwhelmingly in major keys for obvious reasons. As natural trumpet is limited by design to play the notes of the harmonic series, most players have little access to sonorities outside the major scale and arpeggios within the series without the help of technical innovations such as the slide, and much later, vent-holes. Baroque trumpet makers built valveless natural trumpets, which are limited by design to play the notes of the harmonic series. This document investigates Franz Liszt’s transcriptions of Schubert Lieder. Between 1838 and 1846, Liszt transcribed 56 songs (including standalone works and song cycles) by Franz Schubert into solo piano pieces. This document discusses compositional devices used in Liszt’s transcriptions and their relationship to Schubert’s vocal and piano writing as well as the original poetic text. Following the discussion on Liszt transcriptions, I present my own transcription of Schubert’s Im Frühling, D. 882, as an experiment in adapting vocal and poetic nuances into a solo piano piece inspired by the Liszt transcriptions.

Musical Performance Anxiety (MPA) is a multifaceted psychological condition that arises before, during, or after musical performance and presents a significant obstacle for young musicians, particularly secondary string students. Closely linked to the spotlight effect and social anxiety, MPA has worsened among youth following the COVID-19 pandemic due to decreased social interaction, both of which have had adverse effects on students’ mental health. Despite teachers’ awareness of MPA’s prevalence, music education programs often lack instruction in specific coping mechanisms to address it, and many students do not seek support or treatment.

The study explored each of their educational backgrounds, available resources, and unique expertises that allowed them to achieve a successful art career. Every pathway has unique advantages and challenges (Langley, 2024). Formally trained artists and exhibiting artists typically have degrees in art from a university or post-secondary art school. Kain Tayo (“Let’s eat!” in Tagalog) is a sculptural installation inspired by the Filipino tradition of Kamayan—a communal feast eaten with one’s hands and served on banana leaves. Using found and discarded objects, the work reimagines a shared dining experience as a celebration of cultural memory, sustainability, and participation. Each piece mimics traditional Filipino dishes like lumpia and lechon, inviting viewers to touch, rearrange, and reflect on the meaning of value, waste, and connection. Through paintings that layer automotive wiring schematics with family photographs, I explore how the human attachment system resists easy mapping. Using digital tools like Photoshop and scanning, alongside analog methods such as papier-collé and photo transfer, I examine how systems built for clarity—like wiring diagrams—contrast with the layered, often messy realities of human relationships. The Medea Effect: The Binary Terror Of Women Existing In The Liminal Space, M. Nance

The purpose of this study is to analyze the Medea character as a liminal figure. Taking a metaphorical approach to Victor Turner’s ideas on liminality, this study will deconstruct different binary oppositions—villain/victim, agent/object, Dionysian/Apollonian. The Medea character does not fall neatly to one side of these binary oppositions; therefore, this thesis argues that Medea instead inhabits the space between the binary oppositions in the realm of the liminal. The thesis then analyzes the same binary oppositions within a survey of theatrical and non-theatrical texts that feature characters that embody archetypes that originated within the Medea character—the she-devil, the murderous mother, …
