Arts Integration: Establishing Teacher Candidates' Self-Efficacy When Engaging With The Arts, Michael J. Vetere III 2016 Illinois State University

Arts Integration: Establishing Teacher Candidates' Self-Efficacy When Engaging With The Arts, Michael J. Vetere Iii

Theses and Dissertations

Many teacher candidates who enter teacher education programs have received altered curricula that addressed the new common core of reading, writing, and mathematics (Beveridge 2010). This new common core curriculum neglects the importance of arts education. These students who have not been exposed to arts education, are reluctant to engage in the arts and fully participate in an arts education course as part of their teacher preparation (Hallam, Gupta, & Lee, 2008). These teacher candidates exhibit a low level of arts engagement and arts teaching self-efficacy and are therefore less confident with engaging and teaching the arts (Garvis, 2009). The …

Trying To Fit In: My Search For A Positive Social Identity Through Tintypes & Victorian Imagery, Nathaniel C. Roe 2016 University of Arkansas Little Rock

Trying To Fit In: My Search For A Positive Social Identity Through Tintypes & Victorian Imagery, Nathaniel C. Roe

Theses and Dissertations

My artwork is my imagination reflected in the trappings of the Victorian era. The Victorian gaze comes from seeing a correlation between the social unrest in modern society and in the late nineteenth century. By basing the aesthetics of the tintypes in this thesis on the Victorian era, I am able to draw these parallels while at the same time making narrative statements about the feelings associated with being an outcast because of my sexuality. This artwork is influenced by other artists, such as the ParkeHarrisons and Cindy Sherman, who use self-portraits in a similar manner, exploring the idea of …

This thesis examines exhibitions and media installations of Ernie Gehr’s work at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), beginning with the pivotal 1970 show Information, which presented four films by Gehr. Wait (1968), Transparency (1969), Reverberation (1969), and History (1970) were screened alongside work by other avant-garde filmmakers and video artists in a circular viewing booth in the gallery space, in a show featuring works now considered masterpieces of conceptual art. It also considers the two site-specific video works, MoMA on Wheels (2002) and Navigation (2002), which Gehr created for the lobby space at MoMA QNS, …

In Bad Taste - Art Show, Katherine Kolean 2016 Western Michigan University

In Bad Taste - Art Show, Katherine Kolean

Honors Theses

A late night of margaritas contrived an innovative and possibly controversial idea that would incorporate sexual innuendos as part of a senior exhibition. It was the later sober conscious though that revealed the true birth of this idea, which was in fact my own personal sexual journey. In Bad Taste is a depiction of my own sexual awakening – a journey that began with my childhood in a conservative small town in western Michigan, and continues to evolve as a young adult in my final years of college. The title of the exhibition is a tongue-in-cheek response to its sexual …

The Artist’S Book: The Process And Products Of Collaboration From The Unique Object To Editioned Works, Stephen Burt

Creative And Fine Arts Faculty Projects

This presentation explores the processes and ideas behind the creation of the artist’s book from three vantage points. The first: a collaborative approach blending artistic and scientific disciplines. The second: an enterprise that uses words and ideas as an ignition point for the creation of images. The third: a curatorial view of the reception for editioned and one-of-a-kind creations. I will discuss my collaborative book projects completed with Dr. Pamela Morgan PhD., at the University of New England. I will also present other viewpoints gleaned by interviewing book artist and curator Rebecca Goodale, Program Coordinator-Kate Cheney Chappell '83 Center for …
