Desert Pool {If Every Desert Was Once A Sea}, Karen Miranda Abel
The Goose
Desert Pool {If every desert was once a sea} is a site-specific art project by Canadian artist Karen Miranda Abel completed in 2016 while artist-in-residence at Joya: arte + ecología, an arts-led research centre situated in an alpine desert within a national park in southern Spain. The elemental installation represents an envisioning of the ancient sea that occupied the Sierra de María-Los Vélez Natural Park millions of years before the current desert ecology, a time when its highest mountain peaks may have been islands.

Never Forgets: Traumatic Trace Within Public Space, Jan Descartes
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This paper will interrogate the ways in which ephemera from events affects the human and non- human environment and how the absence, manipulation or presence of traumatic trace weaves itself into the atmosphere of the past, present and future. It will look at space and the ways that trace manifests itself in hierarchal spaces and Lebbeus Woods’ concept of heterarchial spaces, which are organic and/or horizontally organized. A thread throughout is the question that if trace from trauma can exist in the visual field, i.e. the physical or digital landscape, in a way that maintains a discourse without perpetuating oppression. …

“My father is from Brooklyn, so we have family
here. We came in frequently from my native Pittsburgh,
and my parents always took us to theater. So
that was a long interest, and then I was a performer
as a child and in high school, came to New York,
sort of lost the performance thread, and in college
became interested in academia, which has always
struck me as a kind of performance. Teaching is a
kind of performance as well.”
That is how Dr. Elizabeth Wollman explains
the evolution of her interest in the performing arts.
She obtained her bachelor’s …

This statement describes, analyzes and comments on my thesis work, Discourse, which explores the figure and perspectives on body image as well as voyeurism. My experience drawing and interacting with my models was the catalyst for this work, from which illuminates my evolution from strictly a two dimensional artist to an installation artist and sculptor. My thesis exhibition is composed of four works: a mirror installation piece incorporating a sound track, and three sculptures. During the course of my Master of Fine Arts degree at Winthrop University, I researched a variety of artists, art movements and techniques, which influenced me …

This research aims to describe the method and technique of the translation of cultural words in “Laskar Pelangi” into a Japanese novel, “Niji no Shoonentachi.” This research uses a descriptive approach with comparative models. Cultural words in this study are determined based on the classification proposed by Newmark’s models. In this research 186 data have been collected according to the two cultural categories, namely, material one and ecological one.
