The faculty of the reestablished University of Maine law school held its first meeting in Washington in May 1962, during the annual session of the American Law Institute. The first order of business included an interview with one Donald L. Garbrecht, who had been recommended to serve as assistant to the librarian, Dr. Arthur Pulling. The legal profession faces a profound crisis of meaning, with lawyers experiencing some of the highest rates of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse of any profession. While techniques like mindfulness meditation have gained traction as tools to address lawyer well-being, they often fall short of fostering the deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment that so many legal professionals seek. This Article explores how Jungian depth psychology and contemplative practices can address the root causes of dissatisfaction, or “dukkha,” within the legal profession. Ever since the 1970s when BigLaw firms began to hire Black lawyers into their associate ranks, these firms have wrestled with problems in both recruiting and retaining Black associates. During the ensuing decades, BigLaw firms have minimally increased the low numbers of Black attorneys who have become partners, particularly equity partners, within their organizations. Numerous scholars have explored how racial bias and discrimination, both within BigLaw firms and greater society, have contributed to such failures in the recruitment, retention, and promotion of Black lawyers. The Jerome Hall Law Library at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law is expanding its preservation of U.S. government documents in print, one of several dozen Federal Depository Libraries across the country stepping up to ensure public access to vital records of American history.

Of the more than 1,100 FDLs nationwide, only 63 serve as Preservation Stewards, a national program launched by the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) in 2016 to support the long-term preservation of federal government publications. The Jerome Hall Law Library is one of them.

Admissions And Outcomes: Evaluating The Predictive Power Of The Lsat And Ugpa, Lindsey Mcmonigal

Political Science Theses and Capstones

Law schools have long relied on Law School Admission Test (LSAT) scores and undergraduate GPAs to predict student success, but the effectiveness and fairness of these metrics remain debated. This study examines whether LSAT scores and UGPA accurately predict bar passage and employment outcomes, analyzing data from the American Bar Association’s Required Disclosures for 197 U.S. law schools. Using statistical methods, including correlation and regression analysis, findings reveal that LSAT scores are a stronger predictor of bar passage than UGPA, while financial aid significantly reduces first-year academic attrition. Additionally, law schools with lower acceptance rates tend to produce better employment …
