The Public Legal Education and Information (PLEI) Sectoral Planning Project, headed by Dr. Catherine Dauvergne, K.C., was commissioned by the Law Foundation of British Columbia with the goal of making recommendations about how to improve public legal education and information in the province. The project was co-sponsored by the Law Foundation and the province’s Ministry of the Attorney General. We have come to understand this constellation of resources and organizations as the “public legal education and information ecosystem.” There is a wide array of high-quality, easily accessible, clearly written, legal information available in British Columbia. Dalam konteks sosial yang dinamis, kesadaran akan hak anak telah meningkat, terlihat dari perhatian masyarakat terhadap isu-isu seperti kekerasan, eksploitasi, dan diskriminasi. Meskipun UU No. 35 Tahun 2014 memberikan kerangka hukum yang kuat untuk melindungi hak-hak anak, tantangan dalam pelaksanaannya masih ada, termasuk kurangnya sumber daya dan koordinasi antar lembaga. Anak jalanan, sebagai kelompok yang paling rentan, sering kali terjebak dalam siklus kemiskinan dan stigma sosial, yang menghambat upaya perlindungan. Four Cardozo alumni were recognized by The Hollywood Reporter in its 2025 lists of top entertainment attorneys. Sasha Levites ’11 and Rachel Strom ’06 were named among New York’s Biggest Entertainment Attorneys, while Marc H. Simon ’01 and Gregory Slewett ’02 were included in Hollywood’s Top 100 Attorneys. Their achievements highlight Cardozo’s national strength in Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law, with alumni shaping major film, television, media, and digital industries.

Nicholle Vandy, a rising 3L from Knox, Ind., has become the first Indiana University Maurer School of Law student to earn top honors at the American University Washington College of Law National Health Writing Competition.

Vandy’s paper, “True Man, Captive Mother: Abortion as a Fundamental Self-Defense Right,” was named the winning entry of the 10th annual competition, which encourages law students from across the country to write scholarly papers on current topics of interest relevant to health, food, and/or drug law.

Cardozo recently welcomed three new members to its Board of Overseers: Parvin Aminolroaya ’08, John Elefterakis ’09, and Stephanie Knepper Basman ’08. Each brings extensive professional expertise and a strong commitment to advancing Cardozo’s mission of legal excellence, leadership, and service. Aminolroaya is a partner at Seeger Weiss LLP with major experience in mass tort and class action litigation. Elefterakis, founding partner of Elefterakis, Elefterakis & Panek, is a nationally recognized litigator and civil rights advocate. Knepper Basman, counsel and principal at SKA Marin, is a leader in affordable housing development and active in civic and community organizations.

On June 4, 2025, Cardozo celebrated its 47th Commencement at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, conferring degrees on 304 J.D. graduates and 83 LL.M. graduates. Dean Melanie Leslie ’91 reminded students of their responsibility to uphold the Constitution, while keynote speaker Hon. Caitlin J. Halligan urged them to pursue meaningful paths in the law. Student speakers Koral Bahat, Denise Pasi, and Talia Raoufpur reflected on resilience, diversity, and community. Yeshiva University President Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman encouraged graduates to lead with integrity and purpose.

The Journal of Law Teaching and Learning

The American Bar Association’s Standards for Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar require law schools to provide students with “substantial opportunities” for “[t]he development of a professional identity.” The Standards do not require a particular curriculum or mode of instruction but offer two guideposts for legal educators: one, that “professional identity focuses on what it means to be a lawyer and the special obligations lawyers have to their clients and society,” and two, that professional formation “should involve an intentional exploration of the values, guiding principles, and well-being practices considered foundational to successful legal practice.” The guidance and concomitant …

Multiple heightening crises reveal the deficiencies and contradictions of legal education, in particular the values it imparts. Perpetuating myths about U.S. democracy and rule of law, the enduring formalist, liberal legalist cast of law school is increasingly at odds with students’ lived experiences. As liberal democracy and the rule of law falter, no longer is relying on the “hidden curriculum” or the historically nebulous and mythical narratives of the law and our legal system sufficient to prepare tomorrow’s lawyers for the challenges faced by our profession.
