In November 2022, Missouri residents voted to ratify Amendment 3 to the state constitution and make the recreational use of marijuana legal. Yet, Missouri is one of only a few states that does not have protections for private employment drug testing. In this article, Paige Hume discusses the landscape of employment drug testing in Missouri, as well as the impact of the new amendment on workers.

I was incredibly fortunate to participate in the 2019 Study Space XII in Lisbon (SSXII), the theme of which was Living in a Tourist Destination: Regulating Planning, Housing. The theme was particularly timely and relevant. In 2019, a record 27 million visitors flooded Portugal.2 Lisbon, with an estimated population of only 517,802 as of January 2020,3 had 18.4 million tourists4 crowding its beautiful, but narrow and often steep, streets and its fabulous restaurants, bars, and cafes. The COVID-19 pandemic affected nearly every aspect of life in the United States, including most notably, work-life, home-life, and community-life. During the pandemic, the government took extraordinary steps to try and reduce the spread of the disease by closing businesses, mandating the wearing of masks, and requiring vaccines. Government officials repeatedly justified their actions by stating that they were "following the science." However not all members of the scientific/medical community agreed with these actions. Some of these counter-consensus opinions were labeled mis/dis/mal/information.

Regulation of commercial speech is a major component of federal regulation of tobacco products. Since adoption of federal tobacco legislation, the Food and Drug Administration has asserted regulatory authority over ENDS and other vaping products as “tobacco products,” subjecting them to the same regulatory regime as traditional tobacco products even though such projects appear to pose less of a threat to public health. Such regulation, and the restriction on truthful speech in particular, may be having negative consequences for public health. Pharmaceutical drug prices in the United States are at the highest costs yet seen, and it looks like these prices are still continuing to climb. While people in the United States are struggling to pay for necessary medications, the prices of those same medications are drastically lower in other countries.

The United States (U.S.) Constitution provides few limitations on endowing the Executive Branch with powers to govern foreign trade, which was initially granted to the Legislature. In a world where global trade dominates, the power over foreign trade can be more important than the power over domestic matters. Leaving unrestrained trade authority to the Executive Branch may cause hazards for Americans and foreigners alike. Russia’s war in Ukraine demonstrates the flaws in permitting the Executive Branch to unilaterally sanction foreign states. The term “present day” affixes this Article to early 2023, a snapshot in time. To understand the current legal narratives surrounding Cannabis, and what they might become in the future, it is important to examine the history of Cannabis law and policy in United States. This Article argues that the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) should regulate drug manufacturer speech about off-label uses based on the evidentiary support for the relevant use. The more evidence that an off-label use is safe and effective, the less restrictive the regulation should be. The less evidence that an off-label use is safe and effective, the more restrictive the regulation should be. Although intuitive, this is not exactly how current regulation of off-label information works. This article draws upon the evolving framework of the Critical Environmental Approach in examining the conceptualization and manifestation of the Environmental Justice approach and its pillars within the regulatory system of multicultural and divided societies. These are states comprised of marginalized ethnic and minority groups that frequently face instances of social and environmental injustice. Employing this perspective through a case study show that gradual and anecdotic but unorganized and incoherent incorporation of Environmental Justice pillars lacks the capacity to effectively address long-standing historical environmental injustices and fails to challenge the prevailing social framework. While workplace diversity is a hot topic, the extent to which the diversity management movement has effectively improved intergroup relations and reduced racial inequality remains unclear.1 Despite large investments in diversity and inclusion training and other company wide initiatives, historically excluded groups remain vastly underrepresented in leadership and the most lucrative careers, such as finance, law, and technology. This calls the efficacy of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts into question, particularly with respect to reducing racial inequality in the workplace.

In 2007, the Conference Board published a piece calling middle managers “the biggest roadblock to diversity and inclusion” for standing in the way of change efforts. Today, many chief diversity officers report that they have failed both to diversify middle management and to get middle managers involved in promoting inclusion. We explore popular diversity programs that create “paper” or “symbolic” principles for achieving diversity (diversity policy statements and guidelines for hiring, promotion, and discharge), as well as programs that engage middle managers in promoting diversity (special recruitment and mentoring programs, and diversity task forces). “Paper” policies often fall flat, but …

This Article adds to the literature that has linked feminist economics to foreign trade and development. It argues that two key factors need to be in place jointly if efforts to promote gender equity are to succeed. On the one hand it argues that foreign debt is an important constraint to domestic progressive social policies of all kinds as it increases the power of international creditors who generally tend to support austerity policies. On the other hand, while alleviating the burden of foreign debt via exportpromotion policies is necessary, it is by no means a sufficient condition to promote domestic …
