Barriers To Post-Secondary Enrollment For Former Foster Youth, Brenda Morton Oct 2013

Barriers To Post-Secondary Enrollment For Former Foster Youth, Brenda Morton

Faculty Publications - College of Education

The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of current and former foster youth who faced challenges with the process of enrolling in post-secondary education. These participants illuminated the importance of teacher preparation programs that include awareness of the contexts of foster children and youth. Unfortunately, little is known about this group, leaving them vulnerable to significant barriers. Many foster youth aspire to a four-year bachelors degree, but need the help and support of high school teachers to get there. Center Austria Research

2012-2013 Executive Summary, Reading Recovery Center Of Iowa, Salli Forbes Oct 2013

2012-2013 Executive Summary, Reading Recovery Center Of Iowa, Salli Forbes

Documents

Reading Recovery is a research-‐based early literacy intervention implemented in schools to provide intensive individual literacy instruction to the lowest achieving first grade students in the core classroom. The goal of the intervention is to accelerate students’ progress to grade-‐level proficiency in 12 to 20 weeks. Reading Recovery fits response to intervention (RTI) plans by significantly reducing the number of students who need special education services and contributing to the identification of a small number of children who may need specialized long-‐term assistance.

The University of Northern Iowa is an official University Training Center of the Reading Recovery North American …

Assessments! Standards! Formative Feedback! Value-added! Such jargon creates swarms of "EduSpeak" related to school data. Common Core Standards (CCS) along with the recently adopted South Carolina Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) waivers add yet more jargon to the list. Do any of these terms lead to better teaching and learning?

A Study Of Stimulating Versus Non-Stimulating Visuals In A Preschool Classroom, Bolin R. Stephanie

Education Undergraduate Research

This was a qualitative research study with the purpose of examining characteristic and/or behavior changes in children ages two and a half to four based on stimulating and nonstimulating room décor. The data in this study was collected while observing twelve children at the Kiddie Kampus Daycare in Collegedale, Tennessee. Changes in mannerisms, behavior, character traits, and attention span were logged first in the typical, non-stimulating room, and then logged again using the same twelve children, in the same room, during another week of observation after the addition of visually stimulating decorations.
