Evaluation Of The Utility Of Informative Priors In Bayesian Structural Equation Modeling With Small Samples, Hao Ma May 2020

Evaluation Of The Utility Of Informative Priors In Bayesian Structural Equation Modeling With Small Samples, Hao Ma

Department of Education Policy and Leadership Theses and Dissertations

The estimation of parameters in structural equation modeling (SEM) has been primarily based on the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and relies on large sample asymptotic theory. Consequently, the results of the SEM analyses with small samples may not be as satisfactory as expected. In contrast, informative priors typically do not require a large sample, and they may be helpful for improving the quality of estimates in the SEM models with small samples. However, the role of informative priors in the Bayesian SEM has not been thoroughly studied to date. Given the limited body of evidence, specifying effective informative priors remains ...

Ib Mathematics Standard Level - Statistics Unit - Online Instruction, Alexa Miles

Lesson Plans

This statistics unit is designed to be delivered 100% remotely for IB Math SL students. For our class, this was Unit 11. There are five lessons of content in this unit being, 11.1 Histograms and Boxplots, 11.2 Variance and Standard Deviation, 11.3 Probability Distributions and Expected Value, 11.4 Binomial Distribution, and 11.5 Normal Distribution. Each lesson consists of one Edpuzzle video for the students to watch and take notes on and one worksheet style practice assignment (informal assessment) for the students to complete. There is one formal assessment after lesson 2 and a larger (two-day ...

How Can Open Educational Resources Be Used In Teaching Business Courses In Community Colleges? – A Case Of Bronx Community College, Harini Mittal, Neil Hwang, Emakoji Ayikoye Jan 2020

How Can Open Educational Resources Be Used In Teaching Business Courses In Community Colleges? – A Case Of Bronx Community College, Harini Mittal, Neil Hwang, Emakoji Ayikoye

Publications and Research

There are a growing number of Open Educational Resources (OER) available worldwide to teach a wide range of courses at various learning levels. Hyler (2006) has listed motives for OER initiatives for institutions such as right to education for all, sharing of knowledge as basis of academics, leveraging tax payer’s money for the common good, better use of resources by reducing costs, good public relations tool, diversity in business models. As for individuals, the motives are access to the best possible resources and to have more flexible materials. Individuals are not motivated by altruistic ambitions, such as assisting developing ...

Increasing Bullying Awareness In Elementary School Special Needs Students, Maria Olvera Dec 2019

Increasing Bullying Awareness In Elementary School Special Needs Students, Maria Olvera

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Students with learning disabilities are two to three times more likely to be bullied than nondisabled peers (Banks, 2009). Students in special education need to be continually taught to identify the signs of being bullied and when to speak up to an adult if they are being bullied due to them being a hire target. It is important to teach students about expressing their feelings and identify common bully characteristics. Students with disabilities are already addressing challenges in the academic environment. There are many risks that can develop from a special needs child who is not reporting bullying at school ...

Education Expenditure In Australia, James Mahmud Rice, Daniel Edwards, Julie Mcmillan Aug 2019

Education Expenditure In Australia, James Mahmud Rice, Daniel Edwards, Julie Mcmillan

Dr Daniel Edwards

Australia invested $111.8 billion in education in 2015. The sources of this funding and the pathways it follows through various systems are complex. Rarely are all the components of this system captured in the one place. This report offers a detailed insight into investment in Australian education, capturing data from all levels – from early childhood to higher education – and all funding sources – the federal government, state governments, private contributions and the transfers that take place between these. The complex picture shown in this report offers an important reference point for policy-makers, educators, researchers and economists. It draws on recently ...

Is Corequisite Developmental Math Effective At East Tennessee State University?, Christine Padden

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis looks at the corequisite developmental math program at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) and compares the effectiveness to the previous developmental math program by comparing the student outcomes in MATH 1530. MATH 1530 is a non-calculus based statistic and probability course that satisfies most majors’ general education math requirements. ETSU sees approximately 1,000 students a year pass through MATH 1530 which is around 6.7% of the total enrollment at ETSU[9]. We are interested in the last five years of the developmental math program before it was changed to corequisite developmental math and the first five ...
