Udl Simulation Game For Statistics, Julie Hoffmann

UDL @ XU: Universal Design for Learning

Principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) were implemented to a quantitave statistics course for buiness students via a simulation game. Game logins were purchased through LSU at https://moodle.beta-versity.com.

The simulation game provided each group with a dataset to work on two semester long projects related to descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The details of the projects are included. Through the process students were exposed to the "why", the "what" and the "how" of learing.

Second Annual University of Arkansas Teaching and Learning Symposium: Sharing Teaching Ideas While not a formal discipline, “reverse engineering” can yield opportunities for students to experience a compressed end-to-end (e2e) life cycle of projects that leverage human factors such as perception, cognition, and macro-factors such as organizational culture or situational context to improve operations performance, safety, or other organizational outcomes.

As the process of project proposal, approval, and execution can often take months (or longer!), we simply do not have the time or resources to conduct “real” experiments. To give the benefit of e2e projects, students are asked to create …

A Longitudinal Study Of The Effect Of Individual And Socio-Cultural Factors On Students’ Creativity, Hye-Sook Park, Seokmin Kang, Sungyeun Kim

This longitudinal study investigated how characteristics of individual and social relationships affect Korean students’ creativity development. Fifth graders (male: 3,623, female: 3,701) from 242 schools in Korea were followed annually from their 5th to 9th grades (indicating from the 5th elementary school grade to the 3rd middle school grade in the Korean school system). Exploratory factor analysis, internal consistency reliability (coefficient alpha), confirmatory factor analysis, and two-level growth model methods were performed. The typical collegiate introductory statistics course poses significant challenges for students. Many do not fully comprehend key course skills, and it is common for students to exit the class with a neutral or negative attitude toward statistics. To measure the impact of using relevant contextual examples as an instructional strategy during a probability unit, in-class activities were designed to align with areas of interest for participants as identified by a student interest inventory.
