Autism is a heterogenous neurodevelopmental diagnosis associated with deficits in social communication and the presence of repetitive behaviors and sensory differences. While diagnostic criteria are behavioral, these behaviors are thought to arise from atypicalities in the brain. While many studies investigating autism have focused on understanding the neural processes underlying task performance, few have focused on understanding the brain at rest. This is critical, however, as the state of the brain before a stimulus is presented (i.e. its resting state) impacts how it responds to incoming information. In the United States, the 40 colleges of osteopathic medicine and 157 schools of allopathic medicine face challenges in recruiting candidates who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM), and gaps in racial disparity appear to be widening. In this commentary, the authors provide an analysis of the data collected from 8 years of conducting a URiM recruitment and welcoming social events. This dissertation analyzes how firms can mitigate the influence of trade shock and benefit from openness and diversification. It is composed of three chapters. Chapter 1 and 2 analyze the impact of U.S. import tariffs on the export value of Chinese firms and the differential response of firms that vary in market sizes outside of the U.S. In Chapter 1, I develop a model assuming fixed capital for each firm and fixed cost of entering into new markets. In this study, I will use qualitative content analysis to analyze the Cultural, social, and political aspects of film billboard, and the usage persuasion techniques in Egyptian film posters from the 1930s to the 2010s. Two posters from each political era—equaling a total of ten samples— are analyzed regarding how the persuasion techniques related to the politics of the time. This study shows the relationship between politics and cinema, as well as how film posters utilize visual persuasion techniques in images throughout time. This dissertation consists of three chapters pertaining to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation, food insecurity, cognition impairment, and sibling correlation in SNAP participation over the life course. Participation in SNAP among eligible adults 60 and older is much lower than among the younger population, and rates continue to decline throughout the life course while, at the same time, the risk of cognitive impairment increases. The relationship between food insecurity and health outcomes among adults has garnered increasing attention. Some previous studies found an association between food insecurity and cognition outcomes among older adults. However, they were hampered by not …

Abstract Background: Youth with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are at increased independent risk for bullying involvement or depression yet the topic of bullying involvement and depression in ADHD is poorly understood and largely considered without a guiding theoretical framework. Research on the relation between ADHD and bullying is still in its early stages and less is known about the risk and protective factors that may contribute to the development or buffering of depression in these youth. Gamification, the incorporation of game design features into non-game environments, has been implemented in a variety of disciplines, including education, sustainability, language learning, and workplace transformation. According to research, workplace gamification enhances employee engagement and productivity. The gaming business has leveraged incentives and motivation to drive behavior and participation. This literature study assesses gamification's potential as a technique for leadership development and competency building. This scoping review examines recent literature on video games and leadership competency development to assess whether gaming can foster leadership development. The study discovered that the popularity of video games has increased and that they have the ability to enhance player leadership and real-world leadership skills. Video games can increase management, social, and creative skills, and their increasing complexity makes them beneficial for the study of leadership. This study examines the influence of social standing, affluence, and privilege on the formation of leaders. The review of literature synthesizes research including individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and factors that may influence leadership development. Previous research indicates that family socioeconomic situations influence the learning of leadership knowledge, the building of a leadership attitude, and the practice of leadership skills during adolescence, hence influencing the likelihood of becoming an outstanding leader. High-status persons possess leadership-enhancing benefits, such as social capital and privileged knowledge. Combatting climate change has largely been understood as a matter of federal and provincial jurisdiction and as a result has mostly been executed in a preventative lens. However, the effects of climate change are most significantly felt at the municipal level. As a result, I argue the onus for combatting climate change should switch to the municipalities in order to focus on climate mitigation and adaptation. The twin concepts of sustainable development and sustainability have been key points in new policies. Nonetheless, only the Western scientific perspective is typically considered, excluding other voices and leading to a very narrow vision of “sustainability”. The following article investigates the benefits to including indigenous knowledge and principles, considering their values rather than limitations and presents two specific case studies using the Mauri Model Decision Making Framework, a tool applied for environmental assessment, seen as a more cultural-friendly sustainable approach.

The control, supervision, and rehabilitation of criminalized people often falls on the shoulders of non-state agents and organizations. Surety bail releases are a clear embodiment of this trend, as the courts call upon relatives, friends, and employers to supervise the pre-conviction activity of people accused of a crime. According to the law, sureties must report all bail violations to the police; the resulting diffusion of responsibility is said to increase the penal state’s power and control over criminal justice-involved individuals while minimizing reputational risks. One in four grandparent-headed families report food insecurity, compared to one in seven among all families with children. Generally, the more care grandparents provide for their grandchildren, the more likely they are to be food insecure. This brief summarizes finding from interviews conducted in 2021 with U.S. adults ages 60 and older who are caring for their grandchildren.
