Purpose: This study sought to evaluate how joining the National Hand Trauma Center Network (NHTCN) affected the volume, demographics, and severity of hand trauma transfers to our institution. Methods: Data for this study were collected retrospectively over a 6-year period from 2016 to 2021 from our institutional trauma registry. Patients were selected based on the criterion of being transferred to our facility because of isolated hand trauma. Analyses of transfer rates, transfer distance, sending facilities, injury patterns, insurance type, path of care, and hospital charges prior to and after joining the NHTCN were performed. Rib fractures are frequently seen in trauma patients and are associated with increased mortality, primarily due to pulmonary complications. This study investigates the efficacy of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) in preserving pulmonary function in patients with traumatic rib fractures. A search was conducted in PubMed using the terms "erector spinae plane" AND ("rib fracture" OR "rib fractures") AND trauma. The results were filtered to include studies within the past five years, available full-text articles, and relevancy to this research question. Health Status, Outcomes, and Literacy and Healthcare Utilization

In 2023, approximately 400,000 children were in foster care in the United States, a population disproportionately affected by trauma, instability, and systemic inequities.1 These children face chronic disruptions in sleep—an essential physiological process that underpins physical development, learning, emotional regulation, and overall health.²⁻⁴ Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, are prevalent in this group and contribute to significant sleep disturbances through pathways of hyperarousal, stress dysregulation, and recurrent nightmares. 3,4 Understanding the interplay between foster care, social determinants of health (SDOH), and sleep health disparities highlights opportunities for targeted interventions to improve outcomes.

Insurance status and race have been significant predictors of delayed care and reduced imaging utilization in emergency settings, particularly among minority and Medicaid-insured populations (Moser, Shan). The reasoning for the disparities in treatment for these underserved populations is still not well understood. To further analyze these claims, this study examined whether demographic factors such as ethnicity, sex, age, insurance type, and fracture classification were associated with differences in imaging modality among patients with femur fractures. Background: Interleukin-22 is a cytokine involved in mucosal immunity, whereas interleukin-22 binding protein is a soluble receptor that can potently block interleukin-22. The role of interleukin-22 and interleukin-22 binding protein in trauma remains unclear. This study investigates whether IL-22 levels are associated with intubation in patients with trauma. We hypothesized interleukin-22 levels would be lower in intubated patients. Pelvic pain during penetration (PPDP) has been described using various diagnostic terms, including vaginismus, dyspareunia, and vulvodynia. The most recent and comprehensive classification is Genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder (GPPPD) which is characterized by psychological distress associated with pain during or in anticipation of vaginal penetration (DSM-5-TR; American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2022). In the cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and carotid artery atherosclerosis, MRI is a resource for non-invasively viewing the phenomena taking place. Additionally, potential interventions and treatments can be observed without harm to the subject. This dissertation expands the understanding of two preclinical applications of MRI: traumatic brain injury and carotid artery atherosclerosis in mouse models.

A history of sexual trauma places women at a high risk for sexual dysfunction and other health sequelae, yet the influence of ovarian hormones in this population is poorly understood. This dissertation tested the theory that the effects of ovarian hormones are mediated by cognitive approach-avoidance systems to shape sexual well-being, and that this process is moderated by sexual trauma history. This was investigated across three studies examining the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptive use, and menopause. Prenatal substance exposure (PSE) is a known risk factor for negative birth outcomes and long-term health outcomes like neurodevelopmental problems. Children in foster care have increased exposure to PSE and higher proportions of developmental delay compared with the general population. It is unclear whether differences still exist among developmental delay screening among children in foster care with and without PSE.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine the applicability of the Revised Risk Analysis Index (RAI-Rev) in orthopaedic trauma and compare the predictive discrimination for the RAI-Rev and the 5-Item Modified Frailty Index (mFI-5) for 30-day postoperative outcomes.

DESIGN: This is a retrospective cohort study.

SETTING: The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement database was used.

PATIENT SELECTION: All patients aged 18 or older who underwent surgical treatment for forearm, humerus, pelvis, acetabulum, femur, tibia, and hindfoot fractures from 2015 to 2020 were included.

The authors are members of the non-profit organizations Chunilal Initiative and Kisumu Intuitive, which deliver charitable neurosurgical care to the region on a quarterly basis. This case report describes the clinical presentation and treatment following an exploratory ingestion of extended release (ER) guanfacine in a healthy toddler. Guanfacine, an alpha-2a agonist, can cause transient hypertension as it moves from the serum into the CNS where it causes the more commonly seen central nervous system (CNS) depression, hypotension, and bradycardia. Persistent hypertension requiring intravenous (IV) vasodilatory medication is a rare and life-threatening complication of an alpha-2 agonist with only one other published report. This case report re-emphasizes and further expands available literature on this rarely reported effect.

This study aimed to evaluate the epidemiology of hip dislocations in the United States (U.S.) from 1990 to 2019. Methods This study is a descriptive retrospective epidemiological study. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database was used to collect epidemiological data on hip dislocation in the U.S. from 1990 to 2019. Data included years lived with disability (YLDs), prevalence, and incidence rates per 100,000 people.
