Background: Fragility fractures are often sentinel events in documenting new cases of osteoporosis. Numerous analyses have demonstrated low rates of adequate osteoporosis evaluation and treatment following primary fragility fractures. The purpose of this study was to quantify the incidence of primary fragility fractures in America and the rates of osteoporosis screening and management before and after fracture. Methods: A retrospective review of the PearlDiver database was conducted using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) and ICD, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) and Current Procedural Terminology codes. To try to account for this, medical schools are expanding class sizes and new schools are being created. While both allopathic and osteopathic schools are expanding, osteopathic schools are doing so a much faster rate. Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) is a set of osteopathic techniques that involves manipulation of the musculoskeletal system using the hands. It offers a supplement to standard modes of diagnosis and treatment, and is a key component of the osteopathic holistic approach to medicine.

Introduction Hypercalcaemia of malignancy (HCM) is the second most common cause of hypercalcaemia and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Several treatment options are available including pharmacological therapy with bisphosphonates, denosumab, glucocorticoids and calcimimetics, as well as conventional therapy with hydration and possibly calcitonin. While guidelines have previously considered treatment effects, no guideline has yet considered a range of contextual factors impacting recommendations for the management. The aim of this study was to summarise the available evidence on important decisional factors for the development of guidelines for the treatment of HCM. Osteoporosis affects over 12 million Americans, leading to fractures, chronic pain, reduced independence, and decreased quality of life (United States Preventative Services Task Force [USPSTF], 2018). Up to 30% of individuals who suffer an osteoporotic hip fracture will not survive 12 months post-fracture, and 71% of all osteoporotic fractures occur in women (USPSTF, 2018). Due to increased risk with age, the USPSFT recommends all women have initial bone densitometry at age 65 or greater (2018). Medicare reimburses DEXA screening, the gold standard bone densitometry, every 24 months in individuals at risk (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMMS], 2018). The …
