Context: Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are physicians who are trained in the practice of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). OMT is a form of manual manipulation that can be applied to the patient’s body to aid the body in its own healing properties. The overprescribing and overuse of medication is currently a problem, as it can result in adverse consequences such as antibiotic resistance. Exploring OMT as either an alternative or as a complementary therapy in the pediatric population is beneficial in potentially curbing antibiotic use and improving symptoms and disease-related processes.

Chronic pain is one of the most common complaints for adult patients. Chronic pain almost always includes a pharmacological approach which can involve opioids and non opioids. Non-pharmacological approaches are less commonly used by patients with chronic pain, despite the significant misuse of opioids in the treatment of chronic pain. There is a need for nonpharmacological therapies in the treatment of chronic pain patients to lessen the misuse of opioids. One underused form of nonpharmacological therapy for chronic pain is OMT. Introduction: Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is highly researched and integrated into many medical and surgical subspecialties. Though OMM has been shown to have benefits in treating non-specific cervical and lower back pain and managing post-operative pain, it has rarely been integrated or studied in the neurosurgical community.

Method: Using SurveyMonkey, a survey was dispersed to physicians of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Surgical treatment of pelvic sarcoma involving the bone is the standard of care but is associated with several sequelae and reduced functional quality of life (QOL). Treatment with photon and proton radiotherapy is associated with relapse. Carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) may reduce both relapse rates and treatment sequelae. The PROSPER study is a tricontinental, nonrandomized, prospective, three-arm, pragmatic trial evaluating treatments of pelvic sarcoma involving the bone. Patients aged at least 15 years are eligible for inclusion. Participants must have an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status score of two or less, newly diagnosed disease, and histopathologic confirmation of pelvic …

CONTEXT: Lymphatic treatments are gentle and passive techniques believed to enhance movement of lymph back into the central circulatory system. Animal studies provide supportive evidence, yet there are few studies in humans.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to investigate whether the osteopathic pedal pump protocol reduces volume in the lower limbs of healthy subjects.

METHODS: A total of 30 first- and second-year medical students were recruited. Subjects were excluded from participating if they had acute asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure, active infections, fractures of the lower extremities, or metastatic cancer. Background: The zebrafish species, Danio rerio, is a widely utilized model organism with well-characterized behaviors including anxiety-like behavior when placed into a novel environment. In addition, the fish can be treated with substances by immersion.

St. John’s Wort has been suggested as a plant-based treatment for depression and anxiety because it contains compounds that inhibit the serotonin transporter (SERT) among other effects. A number of St. John’s Wort supplements are commercially available.

Background: Tendinopathy is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders in active patients, accounting for at least 7% of physician visits in the United States. In recent years, there has been an increasing body of evidence for the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the management of tendinopathies compared to corticosteroid injections (CSI) for patients refractory to conservative treatment.

Methods: This review was performed in accordance with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines.
