OBJECTIVE: Despite growing evidence of distinct nutrition-related experiences and disparities, transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) youth and young adults are an underrepresented population in nutrition research. This paper describes the methods and study design from Project Gender NutriScope, a study that will explore the nutritional needs of TGD youth and young adults.

DESIGN: Parallel convergent cross-sectional mixed methods; community-engaged.

SETTING: A purposive sample will be recruited in a Midwest city through clinics, youth organizations, and a large state university.

PARTICIPANTS: Transgender and gender-diverse youth and young adults aged 13-24 years.

In 2023, colorectal cancer (CRC) was the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the US, equating to approximately 50,000 total deaths (National Cancer Institute, 2024). Further, it is estimated that an additional 1.4 million Americans are living with CRC (National Cancer Institute, 2024). Early detection screening modalities remain imperative since the NIH has released a combined survival rate of 70% when utilized (National Cancer Institute, 2024). The purpose of this review is to address the misconceptions surrounding Hormone Therapy (HT) in menopause largely surrounding the findings from Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). The review explores the history of HT, the risks and benefits, along with current guidelines for HT and non-hormonal options. A comprehensive search was conducted using electronic databases focusing on the effect of HT on breast cancer, cardiovascular health, bone health, and quality of life. Epistaxis, the most common Otolaryngology-related emergency, is responsible for one in 200 emergency department (ED) visits in the United States (US) and one-third of otolaryngology visits.^1,11 Up to 60% of the population will experience epistaxis during their lifetime, and 6% -10 % will require medical intervention.^2,3 Epistaxis occurs in children and adults and has a seasonal variation. Although 85% of nosebleeds are idiopathic, they are more frequent in those on supplemental oxygen, anticoagulation, antiplatelet therapy, and in those with other conditions that may predispose them to bleeding. The purpose of this review was to investigate the use of testosterone supplementation in the middle-aged male with a focus on the pathophysiology of testosterone throughout the lifespan, current supplementation options and their adverse effects, and the overall benefit of supplementing to enhance quality of life. A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted identifying studies that assessed clinical outcomes, pathophysiology, supplementation options, adverse effects and benefits of treatments. The findings suggested that testosterone levels naturally decline with age with most men developing symptoms of hypogonadism around age 60. Localized scleroderma, also referred to as “morphea,” is a rare autoimmune disorder that occurs in an estimated one out of 10,000 patients per year. Research on the demographics of morphea has shown an increased prevalence in female patients. Its presentation may consist of skin lesions confined to the epidermis and dermis that appear erythematous and bruise-like, with signs of central skin tightening or sclerosis; deeper lesions may be identified as edematous, erythematous plaques in the absence of well-defined borders. Purpose: The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) faces significant socio-economic challenges, with 35.6% of residents living in poverty and uninsured rates as high as 40%. Each year, approximately 260,000 residents experience mild to moderate behavioral health conditions. Behavioral health care in the region is particularly scarce, with only 30.1 mental health providers per 100,000 compared to the statewide average of 72.7. Furthermore, approximately 90.5% of the population identifies as Hispanic/Latino, so culturally relevant interventions are critical. This is an informative presentation completed using evidence based practice regarding the importance of birth planning and the use of birth plans. It is used as a tool to educate nurses and healthcare providers about the benefits of implementing birth plan education into their patients portfolio. The birth plan is a written document that involves the collaborative efforts between nurses/healthcare providers and future mothers. It is used in order to personalize and improve the birthing experience for patients. This presentation uses qualitative research, quantitative research, and theoretical framework in order to deem positive results with the implementation of birth plans.
