Currently, 2.6% of Americans suffer from heart failure. Common causes include coronary artery disease, chronic hypertension, arrhythmia, and myocardial infarction, often managed in clinical and hospital settings. A rare cause, however, is infiltrative cardiomyopathy, affecting just 0.04% of the U.S. population. This condition, often caused by amyloid buildup or sarcoidosis, is challenging to diagnose and typically requires a heart transplant due to its rapid progression. Thorough investigations into heart failure causes are crucial to identify this rare condition. Background: Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in the UNTHSC Family Medicine clinic varies among residents, with some advocating robust lifestyle counseling and others relying more on medical management. This leads to inconsistencies in patient education and treatment strategies. Lifestyle interventions such as dietary modifications, are unfortunately too often underutilized in the clinic and in primary care in general, despite strong evidence supporting their efficacy in control of both A1C measurements and random fasting blood sugar, and improved prognosis of diabetes. Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically altered the format of residency recruitment, leading to the widespread adoption of virtual interviews, followed by the adoption of preference signaling. This study examines how the structure of the 2023-2024 interview season influenced family medicine residency program directors' intentions for future interview formats and their preferences regarding the number of preference signals.

Methods: A Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance survey, including demographic questions, was distributed to all family medicine residency program directors in the United States in spring 2024. Background Patients rely on durable medical equipment (DME) to maintain their independence, however supplying and ordering DME for patients is challenging due to lack of a clear workflow, inadequate documentation, and differing coverage criteria, which has led to delays in patients receiving their DME. Current criteria to order DME include the following items: equipment description, quantity, length of need (estimate), diagnosis, recent height and weight, name, date of birth, home address, insurance company and member ID. Vibration therapy is a potential new modality for DFU treatment, which may be more accessible to individuals. BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) affects approximately 7 in 100,000 adults annually, with a mortality rate of 50%. It is typically idiopathic, progressive, and irreversible. However, in the context of hypothyroidism, DCM can be reversible. Hypothyroid-induced DCM with coexisting systolic dysfunction is a rare occurrence. This case report presents an exceptional instance of this phenomenon, highlighting the critical role of thyroid hormone replacement in improving patient outcomes. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old female with a medical history of hypothyroidism (post-thyroidectomy) was transferred for higher-level care due to new-onset heart failure. Background: Residency is defined by constant change. The expectations, specialty, preceptor teaching styles and varied knowledge sets needed for each rotation differ greatly. As a result, residents are forced to adapt their learning styles quickly, to ensure they optimize the small amount of time allotted to them. This study aims to introduce a measurement tool into the literature that can reveal the factors affecting the joy of life in older adulthood. Participants included 266 individuals aged 55 and over living in Izmir, Turkey. The process of developing the scale includes the following stages: problem identification, item pool creation, expert opinion, form shaping, pilot application, and finalizing the scale. The exploratory factor analysis revealed that the scale consists of 6 different dimensions, and the variance explained by these dimensions was found to be 65.184%. This quality improvement project aimed to create a patient pamphlet for the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) clinic at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The pamphlet provides important post-procedure information for patients who undergo treatments like joint injections, platelet-rich plasma therapy, prolotherapy, hydrodissection, botulinum toxin injection, and nerve blocks. These procedures can lead to potential side effects, some of which patients may not be aware of. To address this, the pamphlet includes information on common symptoms, their causes, recommended next steps, and guidance on when to contact the OMM clinic or visit the Emergency Department. Background: Disseminated fusarium, primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals, is associated with persistent fevers, rash, and lung involvement. Despite interventions, mortality rate remains high, exceeding 75% for disseminated disease. There are only 26 documented cases worldwide between 1974 and 2022 with CNS involvement. This case highlights a rare presentation of disseminated fusarium infection involving the lungs, liver, and brain in a 53-year-old male with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), highlighting critical diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
