Using A Bayesian Approach To Evaluate The Accuracy Of Economies Of Scope: Examples From Australian Public Universities, Liang-Cheng Zhang, Jia-Jia Syu, Andrew C. Worthington 2015 Griffith University

Using A Bayesian Approach To Evaluate The Accuracy Of Economies Of Scope: Examples From Australian Public Universities, Liang-Cheng Zhang, Jia-Jia Syu, Andrew C. Worthington

Dr Liang-Cheng Zhang

The point estimate of economies of scope is a nonlinear combination of estimated coefficients
from an empirical model. This estimate usually involves out-of-sample predictions when calculating the
separate costs (as a part of the calculation of economies of scope). These difficulties make it hard to give the
precise prediction and to calculate the standard deviation of this estimate along with its confidence intervals.
In this paper, we demonstrate methods for constructing the confidence interval for economies of scope to
allow researchers to draw inferences from estimated economies of scope. We review the common approaches
such as delta method or bootstrap …

Investing In Teachers, 2015 Office of Development Effectiveness

Investing In Teachers

Adeola Capel

This evaluation compares evidence from the literature with Australia’s experience in supporting
teacher development in a range of developing countries. It uses case studies to good effect
in explaining choices made, the extent to which expectations were or were not met, and the
lessons for future Australian assistance for teacher development.
The evaluation found mixed results. In cooperation with governments and other donors,
Australia has made positive contributions, such as improving teacher frameworks and
curriculums, and training teachers through a range of interventions. However, there is room
to improve—for example, in enhancing policy, strengthening analysis and negotiating new
investments—so teacher …

Identifying Teaching Effectiveness: Using Student Skill Surveys, Speech Evaluations, And Quiz Scores To Inform Instruction, Sally A. Blomstrom

Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal

This paper suggests an instrument for measuring students’ self perceptions of improvement in public speaking skills, i.e., a skill survey, and a method to inform and improve instruction by looking at results from that survey in combination with instructor evaluation forms for persuasive speeches, quiz scores, and an information literacy measure. Data were collected from students enrolled in a public speaking course at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Background on the survey development and the method is provided along with results and discussion.

Frame Analysis: Students’ Construction Of Involvement And Noninvolvement In The College Classroom, Robert J. Sidelinger, Derek M. Bolen

Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal

Frames and frame analysis examines the individual’s constructions of reality instead of society’s social constructions. The aim of this qualitative study is to explore college students’ (N = 434) construction of involvement and noninvolvement in the classroom from a frame analysis perspective. Six themes emerged from students’ descriptions of their perceptions of self and other students’ in-class involvement (e.g., active involvement), and eight themes emerged from descriptions of self and other students’ in-class noninvolvement (e.g., student passivity). Overall, students are likely to perceive themselves as involved and other students as noninvolved, even when the classroom behaviors are similar (e.g., listening, …

Middle-Income Latinos In Middle-Class Communities: A Study On Parental Involvement Dynamics, Rafael Inoa 2015 Seton Hall University

Middle-Income Latinos In Middle-Class Communities: A Study On Parental Involvement Dynamics, Rafael Inoa

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

The academic underperformance of students of Latino backgrounds is a serious cause for concern in the United States, especially considering the significant portion of the total U.S. population that Latinos constitute. Since parental involvement is known as a powerful resource in helping all students succeed academically, it can be used as a way to counter the achievement gap that Latinos are currently facing. However, middle-class Latinos, who are also plagued by this gap in academic achievement, are continuously overlooked throughout the educational literature. The current study lays focus on this group by centering on the perspectives of middle-income Latino parents …

Matched, Somewhat-Matched Or Mismatched? Predictors Of Degree-Job Match Among Stem Graduates, Taghreed Ahmed Alhaddab

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

The current third-generation globalization caused structural, organizational and functional changes in the STEM workforce along with changes in human capital flow. The new globalization shift produced new world order causing the STEM workforce to adopt new frameworks, new skills, and new policy approaches to maintain economic strength and achieve growth and prosperity. Available data indicate that the U.S. secondary and postsecondary education system prepares and produce more than an adequate number of STEM graduates. The perceived crisis in the number of U.S. STEM graduates was not confirmed by any data or policy report. Thus, attention should not be caught simply …
