Background: While prior studies have demonstrated that men who have sex with men (MSM) may disproportionately experience distress due to Peyronie's disease (PD), limited evidence exists regarding the outcomes of these men when treated with collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) injections.

Aim: To investigate the outcomes of MSM undergoing CCH injections for PD.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for 790 patients undergoing CCH injections for PD at 5 academic centers within the United States, including data pertaining to demographic information, sexual orientation, penile curvature characteristics, treatment characteristics, and treatment-related outcomes.

Background and aims: Immune-mediated colitis (IMC) is a challenging adverse effect of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, often leading to treatment interruption or discontinuation. Current IMC endoscopic scoring systems were adapted from those used for inflammatory bowel disease but fail to fully capture IMC. The newly proposed IMC endoscopic score (IMCES) seeks to help guide prognosis and treatment. We aimed to validate IMCES and explore its association with IMC clinical severity and outcomes.

BACKGROUND: The risk of malignant transformation and recurrence of Sacrococcygeal Teratoma (SCT) is relatively high, while it is possibly lower in cases associated with Currarino Syndrome (CS). However, the existing literature gives contradictory results. We aimed to examine the risk of malignant transformation in a large cohort of SCT and CS patients.

METHODS: In a global retrospective cohort study, data of consecutive SCT patients and CS patients with presacral teratoma was obtained from 132 institutes in 62 countries. Background: Continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) is the preferred dialysis modality for critically ill patients with hemodynamic instability. Anticoagulation is often necessary to deliver CKRT effectively and prolong the circuit lifespan. The Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) clinical practice guideline for acute kidney injury 2012 recommends regional citrate administration during CKRT for patients without contraindications to prevent filter clotting. Citrate works by chelating calcium and interfering with the activation of the coagulation cascade. BACKGROUND: Flow diversion is effective for unruptured distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA) aneurysms, yet comparative data between the Silk Vista Baby (SVB) and Pipeline Embolization Device (PED) in this challenging territory remain scarce.

METHODS: We conducted a retrospective multicenter study using the CRETA Registry, including consecutive patients with unruptured DACA aneurysms treated with SVB or PED. The primary endpoint was complete angiographic occlusion (O'Kelly-Marotta grade D). Secondary outcomes included procedural characteristics, clinical outcome (modified Rankin Scale), and complications. Overlap weighting was applied to account for non-randomized treatment allocation. Background: Cisplatin remains the standard systemic therapy for the definitive treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), however, resistance to cisplatin continues to be a major barrier to effective treatment, particularly in tumors with NRF2 hyperactivation. Recent studies identify secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1/osteopontin) as a key NRF2 target frequently overexpressed in cancers, where it drives aggressive tumor behavior, metastasis, chemoresistance, and, in some cases, immune suppression. Our recent data highlight SPP1 as one of the top 10 NRF2-upregulated genes in cisplatin-resistant HNSCC. However, its specific role in therapy resistance and metastasis in HNSCC remains unclear. Deep venous drainage (DVD) is considered a negative prognostic factor in AVM surgery, yet its effect on postoperative functional decline remains incompletely defined. This study evaluates whether DVD predicts worsened functional status after surgical resection of Spetzler-Martin Grade II-III AVMs. This retrospective multicenter study analyzed 129 patients with Spetzler-Martin Grade II-III AVMs across nine centers in North America and Europe who underwent primary surgical resection. We excluded cases with prior endovascular or stereotactic interventions. The primary outcome measured was poor functional status, defined as modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score 3-6 at last follow up. Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) is increasingly utilized to improve component alignment and soft-tissue balance, yet its impact on clinically meaningful outcomes in large real-world populations remains uncertain. Although prior studies demonstrate improved radiographic accuracy, whether robotic assistance reduces postoperative complications, opioid utilization, or midterm mechanical failure has not been established at scale.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the challenges of parenthood in surgical training and careers. However, certain aspects of childrearing for surgeons remain understudied. We aim to leftacterize the complexity and costs of childcare amongst surgical trainees and faculty.

Methods: An anonymous, self-administered survey was conducted within the Department of Surgery at a large academic medical center. Both male and female trainees and faculty were included in the analysis. Chi-square or Fisher's Exact test was performed.

Results: Forty-six respondents provided information about childcare costs, with 37% of respondents being residents or fellows. Trainees worked longer workhours (p = 0.003) than their …

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus that causes various oropharyngeal and anogenital cancers. The HPV vaccine provides protection against several strains of HPV and is a key preventative tool against HPV-related cancers; however, vaccination rates remain suboptimal in the United States due to variable state mandates and misperceptions of vaccine efficacy and risks. As social media becomes an increasingly popular avenue for health discussions, platforms such as Reddit offer opportunities to understand public vaccine discourse, particularly among underrepresented groups. Furthermore, vaccine hesitancy and mistrust generally increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, potentially impacting HPV vaccination rates.

Objectives: Prospective observational cohort study at a tertiary care academic center to evaluate the post-operative use of oxycodone in pediatric tonsillectomy patients and caregiver knowledge of opioid disposal.

Methods: Pediatric patients 6-18 years old undergoing tonsillectomy were enrolled. Patients were excluded if they required prolonged inpatient care, had a history of organ transplantation, chronic pain or narcotic use, congenital or chromosomal disorders, inability to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and other significant medical diagnoses that could potentially alter postoperative pain management. Purpose: This study sought to examine the role of frailty in predicting inpatient mortality following early surgical fixation of intertrochanteric (IT) fractures.

Methods: The ACS-TQIP (2017-21) database was queried for patients with intertrochanteric fractures undergoing surgical fixation within 48 h. Frailty status was determined using the 5-item modified frailty index (mFI-5) (0 = nonfrail, 1 = prefrail, and, 2 = frail, and > 2 = severely frail). The primary end point was inpatient mortality. Secondary end points were unplanned ICU admission and thromboembolic events (DVT or PE). Significance was considered a p-value < 0.05.
