Assessing Athletic Training Preceptor 'S Confidence In Their Role As Clinical Educators, Daniel Cobble Sr.
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Aims: This study aimed to explore athletic training preceptors' confidence through skills associated with clinical educator competency domains for healthcare professionals. The research questions focused on the relationship between years of clinical practice, perceived skills value, clinical practice setting, age, ethnicity, and pedagogy background on preceptors' self-reported confidence. Background: The quality of clinical teaching directly affects students' learning experiences, transition to practice, and job satisfaction. With no clear standards for the role or uniform training, it is unclear whether preceptors are prepared for the clinical educator position. Clinical experiences provide opportunities for students to gain confidence in their skills. Still, …

Skeletal muscle is a highly plastic tissue that can alter its metabolic and contractile features, as well as regenerative potential in response to exercise and other conditions. Multiple signaling factors including metabolites, kinases, receptors, and transcriptional factors have been studied in the regulation of skeletal muscle plasticity. Recently, estrogen-related receptors (ERRs) have emerged as a critical transcriptional hub in control of skeletal muscle homeostasis. ERRα and ERRγ - the two highly expressed ERR sub-types in the muscle respond to various extracellular cues such as exercise, hypoxia, fasting and dietary factors, in turn regulating gene expression in the skeletal muscle. ABSTRACT: Adhesive Capsulitis is a disorder that occurs in the shoulder area in the form of inflammation of the joint capsule which causes a feeling of stiffness and pain. Glenohumeral joint mobilization with the Maitland mobilization technique is using passive mobilization with physiological oscillatory movements which can produce a stretching effect and release of adhesive on the ligament capsule in the shoulder so that the range of motion of the shoulder joint can be increased. Hold relax is an exercise therapy with the principle of reciprocal inhibition which aims to improve antagonistic pattern relaxation, and mobilization, and to reduce pain. …

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a syndrome that occurs in 1-4% of the total population worldwide. This condition causes disruption of function and motion in the wrist that spreads to the fingers. Physiotherapy intervention is necessary to reduce the severity of symptoms in patients with CTS. Neurodynamic Techniques are nerve mobilization techniques that aim to restore homeostasis in the nerves so as to reduce pain and improve functional ability. Materials and methods. This research was conducted through searching several databases, found 31 articles which were then filtered and selected as many as 10 articles. However, of the 11 articles, further screening …

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a condition in which the heart's blood vessels (coronary arteries) are blocked by fat deposits. Based on data from Riskesdas (2018) it is revealed that cases of heart and blood vessel disease in Indonesia are increasing every year, increasing the mortality rate. This is due to the presence of risk factors that support the emergence of coronary heart disease. Objective: The aim of this paper is to evaluate the evaluation of aerobic exercise to increase endurance in patients with coronary heart disease by examining 6MWT. Method: This research is in the form of a …

Power limit training is defined as the movement to get a jump on athletes in doing the maximum jump smash. Badminton requires leg muscle explosive power because it is the muscle's ability to overcome loads and with a high speed of contraction. This study aims to determine the effect of the single leg depth jump exercise, the combination of the knee to elbow core plank, on increasing leg power in badminton athletes.
This study uses an experimental design method. This research was conducted on badminton athletes using a total sampling technique of 13 people, namely the Pliometric Simgle Leg Dept …

Purpose: The majority of athletic trainers (ATs) recognize the importance of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical practice but encounter unique barriers that limit their implementation. There are no studies that have investigated PROs in the military setting. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions, practices, and barriers to implementing PROs in the military setting. Methods: We used a cross-sectional, web-based survey design. Emails were sent to 365 potential participants and 67 were eligible to participate (response rate=18.4%, years practicing in military setting=5.9 ± 5.8years). Participants were invited to complete a web-based survey regarding the uses, benefits, and …

Introduction: Hamstring injuries are common in physically active people and athletes. Lack of hamstring flexibility is the one of the most important characteristics of hamstring injuries in athletes. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of three different stretching techniques on hamstring flexibility in professional football players. Materials and Methods: Fifty-five male football players between the ages of 18–20 years old were involved in the study. The participants were divided into 3 groups: static stretching, neuromobilization and Mulligan traction straight leg raise (TSLR), respectively. Each participant’s dominant lower extremity was assessed with a straight leg raise test (SLR) …

Introduction: This study investigated the differences in ACTN3, ACE and ADRB3 variants in top-level soccer players who entered the Croatian National Team and the ones who did not but played for two best Croatian teams. Material and Methods: The buccal swabs were collected from 56 soccer players playing for the Croatian National Team (N = 31) and/or for one of the two most prestigious Croatian soccer clubs (N = 25). Each participant’s genotype was determined by analyzing the single-nucleotide polymorphism. The ACTN3 gene (rs1815739) on chromosome 11 and the ACE (rs1799752) gene on chromosome 17 were determined. Results: No significant …

Acetabular labral tears have shown to be difficult to diagnose and manage in an active and competitive athletic population. The goal of this study was to compare NCAA Division 1 collegiate athletes undergoing operative and non-operative management of their labral injuries by assessing ability to return to competition and secondarily evaluate days lost from sport. A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted on Division 1 collegiate athletes from 2005 to 2020, incorporating all varsity university sports. Records showing MRI confirmed diagnosis were included in the cohort, as well as all pertinent clinical data. Data revealed 10/18 (55%) of individuals managed conservatively …

Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are among the most common ligament injuries of the knee and often require reconstruction. The etiology of the molecular mechanisms of rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is poorly understood, and many external and internal factors have been associated with it, including genetics. This study aimed to investigate the association of sequence variants in the ELN and FMOD candidate genes with ACL ruptures based on the essential biological functions of these two proteoglycan-encoding genes in maintaining the structural integrity of tissues and regulating fibrillogenesis. Material and Methods: The partici-pants consisted of 229 (164 …

Spring 2023 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
Problem: There is often increased stigma surrounding college athletes in the spotlight, thus preventing them from seeking help with their mental health (Kaier et al., 2015). There are currently no known programs that offer resources specifically for college athletes (Sudano & Miles, 2016). It is important for occupational therapists to advocate for mental health resources for student-athletes to create healthy habits and routines within the athletic environment.
Purpose: The purpose of this capstone was to increase awareness of mental health resources that are available to student-athletes and coaching staff at Baldwin Wallace University to improve mental health in athletics and …

Background: Adaptive downhill skiing has been described as a fun, safe, engaging recreational activity for those with disabilities (Sterba, 2006). There are numerous ways the alpine skiing can be modified to meet these athletes’ needs. For instance, athletes can use tethered skis, horizontal poles held by their instructors, or modified walkers. For those that have poor standing balance, or are non-ambulatory, sit-skis are an option, with or without outriggers to add additional support and balance for athletes with poor trunk stability or core strength. These options provide equal and accessible alternatives for those with disabilities to get out and enjoy …
