Introduction: Perilunate dislocations are rare and high-energy proximal carpal row injuries that are associated with long-term disability. The current accepted pathomechanism of this injury is progressive radial to ulnar intrinsic ligament tearing, as described by Mayfield in 1980. Since his description several other ligaments have been described as critical stabilizers of the proximal carpal row.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to elucidate if artificial intelligence (AI) can generate novel research hypotheses regarding patellofemoral instability (PFI) in the pediatric population that have not previously been investigated. We hypothesized that AI would be able to generate new hypotheses that have not yet been presented or published.

Methods: In December of 2023, Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer-3.5 (ChatGPT) was used to create a list of 25 research hypotheses about PFI in both the adult and pediatric population. Introduction: This study investigates the association between patients < 80 years old and patients 80 years old and 30-day postoperative complications following aseptic revision total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA).

Materials and methods: All patients who underwent revision TSA between 2015 and 2022 from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement (NSQIP) database were surveyed for this study. Patient demographics, comorbidities, and 30-day postoperative complication data were analyzed. Logistic regression was used to analyze the postoperative complications associated in patients greater than or equal to 80 years old.

Results: Compared to patients < 80 years old, patients 80 years old were independently associated with a significantly greater likelihood of experiencing any complication (odds ratio [OR] 1.61, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.23-2.11; P < .001), non-home discharge (OR 3.68, 95% CI 2.58-5.25; P < .001), and length of stay (LOS) > 2 days (OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.18-2.10; P = 0.002).

BACKGROUND: Overhead throwing in baseball and softball athletes induces shoulder adaptations theorized to increase risk of shoulder musculoskeletal injury (MSI) and/or pain due to range of motion (ROM) deficits.

There is a paucity of literature on the effect of COVID-19 on hospital processes. We hypothesized that COVID-19 was associated with decreased cancer physiatry referrals in 2020. This is a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients from April to July 2019 and 2020 admitted at an academic quaternary cancer center. The main outcomes were number of hospital admissions, rate, and characteristics of inpatient rehabilitation admissions and change in percentage of physiatry referrals as the primary endpoint. OBJECTIVE: To examine the differences in participation, life satisfaction, and psychosocial outcomes among individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) endorsing current, past, or no chronic pain.

SETTING: Community.

PARTICIPANTS: Three thousand eight hundred four TBI Model Systems participants 1 to 30 years of age postinjury classified into 1 of 3 groups based on their pain experience: current pain, past pain, no pain completed a Pain Survey at their usual follow-up appointment which on average was approximately 8 years postinjury.

Training surfaces can influence training outcomes; therefore, this study aimed to compare the impact of performing strength trunk exercises on unstable and stable surfaces with conventional trunk exercises. Clinical leadership behaviors have not been studied in athletic training; therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate athletic trainers’ frequency of demonstrating these behaviors. A clinical complaint of claudication is commonly seen in primary care among older patients with vascular risk factors. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore correlations between spasticity and motor impairments in the upper and lower limbs in ambulatory chronic stroke survivors.

DESIGN: We performed clinical assessments in 28 ambulatory chronic stroke survivors with spastic hemiplegia (female: 12; male: 16; mean ages = 57.8 ± 11.8 yrs; 76 ± 45 mos after stroke).

RESULTS: In the upper limb, spasticity index and Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment showed a significant correlation. Spasticity index for the upper limb showed a significant negative correlation with handgrip strength of the affected side ( r = -0.4, P = 0.035) while Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment for the …
