Nasal valve treatment with TCRF results in NAO symptom improvement in the presence of septal deviation. Severe septal deviation does not impact the beneficial effect of TCRF nasal valve treatment. Symptoms improve with TCRF nasal valve treatment even if septal deviations involve the nasal valve.

Aim: This study leveraged standard-of-care CT scans of patients receiving unilateral radiotherapy (RT) for early tonsillar cancer to detect volumetric changes in the carotid arteries, and determine whether there is a dose-response relationship.

Methods: Disease-free cancer survivors (>3 months since therapy and age > 18 years) treated with intensity modulated RT for early (T1-2, N0-2b) tonsillar cancer with pre- and post-therapy contrast-enhanced CT scans available were included. Patients treated with definitive surgery, bilateral RT, or additional RT before the post-RT CT scan were excluded. To investigate the influence of early dysphagia on quality of life in patients with partial laryngectomy, and to investigate the application value of Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). This study included 30 inpatients who underwent partial laryngectomy due to laryngeal cancer. In the early postoperative period, a comprehensive assessment was conducted on each patient, encompassing Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), and MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory (MDADI). Multiple myeloma is a clonal plasma cell (PC) dyscrasia that arises from precursors and has been studied utilizing approaches focused on CD138+ cells. By combining single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) with scB-cell receptor sequencing (scBCR-seq), we differentiate monoclonal/neoplastic from polyclonal/normal PCs and find more dysregulated genes, especially in precursor patients, than we would have by analyzing bulk PCs. To determine whether this approach can identify oncogenes that contribute to disease pathobiology, mitotic arrest deficient-2 like-1 (MAD2L1) and S-adenosylmethionine synthase isoform type-2 (MAT2A) are validated as targets with drug-like molecules that suppress myeloma growth in preclinical models. Despite the existence of a highly effective and safe vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, vaccination rates remain low. The most prevalent HPV-associated malignancy in the United States is oropharyngeal cancer, but otolaryngology practitioners do not offer the HPV vaccine, and their feelings around offering HPV vaccination have not been evaluated. A 43-question survey, including a twelve-question knowledge quiz, was sent to otolaryngology practitioners at seven academic institutions. Twelve questions comprised a knowledge quiz testing practitioner understanding of HPV, while the remainder of the questions evaluated comfort with and likelihood of recommending vaccination. This is a case report of a patient who presented with left sided hearing loss. The patient was found to have mixed conductive and sensorineural hearing loss of the left ear and restrictive hearing of the right ear. Subsequent imaging demonstrated evidence of bilateral otosclerosis. Otosclerosis is characterized by progressive pathological bone remodeling in the otic capsule, resulting in hearing loss. Given the disease burden of otosclerosis and the corresponding effects on quality of life, providers must have knowledge of the disease to incorporate it into working differential diagnoses for patients presenting with hearing loss. OBJECTIVE: Hypoalbuminemia (HA) is a proxy for malnutrition that has been associated with postoperative complications in several surgical subspecialties. This study investigates the association between pre-operative HA and complications following major salivary gland (MSG) resection.

METHODS: Patients undergoing outpatient, elective MSG resection were extracted from the 2005 to 2020 National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Demographics and comorbidities were compared between HA (preoperative serum albumin < 3.5 g/dL) and non-HA cohorts. To determine associations between albumin status and postoperative complications, univariate and multivariable binary logistic regression analyses were performed.

It is estimated that 1 in every 200 US newborns has congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV). Delayed identification of cCMV in newborns precludes timely intervention to mitigate sequelae of the infection such as hearing loss and other neurological complications. Newborn testing for cCMV enables appropriate diagnosis and intervention by multidisciplinary teams to properly manage the immediate sequelae of cCMV, avoid unnecessary additional testing that can result from delayed diagnosis, and monitor for future complications. Importance: Genome-wide association studies have identified germline variants associated with the development of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) that can be used to construct a polygenic score (PGS). It is important to determine whether patients with higher germline genetic risk, as summarized using PGS, present with more aggressive disease and/or develop worse clinical outcomes.

Context: Pediatric papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is usually treated with total thyroidectomy followed by radioactive iodine (RAI). Recently, RAI has been used more selectively based on surgical pathology and postoperative dynamic risk stratification (DRS).

Objective: To describe patients with pediatric PTC not initially treated with RAI and their disease outcomes.

Methods: This was an ambispective study at a tertiary cancer center of patients < 19 years diagnosed from January 1, 1990, to December 31, 2021, with stage 1 PTC who intentionally were not treated with RAI within a year of diagnosis. We assessed clinical characteristics, management, and disease outcomes using DRS.

Standard-of-care chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are associated with adverse effects and limited responses in patients with HPV-driven cancers. Objective: To evaluate the long-term safety and effectiveness of temperature-controlled radiofrequency (TCRF) treatment of nasal valve collapse (NVC) in patients with nasal airway obstruction (NAO).

Study design: This is an extended follow-up from a prospective, multicenter, single-arm study. The initial study included participants from 12 sites across the United States who were followed for 24 months and additionally agreed to participate in the extended 36-month follow-up.

Setting: Procedure was performed in-office with an in-person follow-up at 3 months and subsequent follow-up assessment remotely.

Head and neck cancer care delays are challenging, given the complexity of cancer care pathways, which leads to delays throughout the patient journey, from the symptom onset to treatment completion. Current models and literature addressing cancer care are limited by heterogeneous definitions of care intervals, a focus on specific aspects of the patient journey instead of the whole care continuum, and limited use of implementation science to target gaps in implementing evidence-based interventions. Here, we propose the Head and Neck Cancer TImely aCess TO Care Model as an approach to conceptualize, measure, and address delays in diverse health systems.

Objective: To analyze a first-century Roman account of surgery for ozena-a tetrad of nasal crusting, ulceration, bony involvement, and foul odor-with a focus on historical context, etymology, and surgical management.

Data Sources: This historical review draws from the authors' translation of De Medicina. Primary sources detailing Roman surgical instruments from the House of the Surgeon in Pompeii, as well as secondary sources of surgical techniques, were utilized.
