Hypothesis: Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT have increasingly been used as online resources for patients with orthopedic conditions. Yet there is a paucity of information assessing the ability of LLMs to accurately and completely answer patient questions. The present study comparatively assessed both ChatGPT 3.5 and GPT-4 responses to frequently asked questions on common elbow pathologies, scoring for accuracy and completeness. It was hypothesized that ChatGPT 3.5 and GPT-4 would demonstrate high levels of accuracy for the specific query asked, but some responses would lack completeness, and GPT-4 would yield more accurate and complete responses than ChatGPT 3.5.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate temporal trends in the epidemiology of hip osteoarthritis (OA) in the USA from 1990 to 2019, with stratification by sex and geographic region.

DESIGN: Cross-sectional time-series analysis using secondary data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

SETTING: US population-based analysis, stratified by the four US Census Bureau regions: Northeast, Midwest, South and West.

Fingertip injuries, particularly of the index and middle fingers, account for major accidents which occur in industrial regions due to machinery usage, causing sharp cuts or crush injuries of the tips. BACKGROUND: Lower extremity amputations (LEAs) are medically, psychologically, and functionally devastating. The objective of our study was to evaluate region- and sex-specific differences of unilateral and bilateral LEAs across the United States (US) from 1990 to 2019.

METHODS: The Global Burden of Disease database was used to analyze years lived with disability (YLDs), prevalence, and incidence rates per 100,000 people for LEAs in the US from 1990 to 2019. Data were stratified into four US Census Bureau-defined regions: Northeast, Midwest, South, and West. Differences between regions and sexes were assessed, with statistical significance defined as p < 0.05.

Purpose: The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and readability of responses generated by ChatGPT 4.0 to 30 common patient questions about the Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO).

Methods: Two fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons specializing in hip preservation selected thirty questions from a prior study identifying common PAO questions on social media. Each question was entered into ChatGPT 4.0, and the surgeons independently graded responses. Responses were evaluated using an established grading system. Background Effective pain control and reduced opioid consumption improve hip fracture outcomes. Fascia iliaca compartment blocks (FICB) effectively and safely manage acute hip fracture pain while reducing opioid consumption. Alternatively, pericapsular nerve group (PENG) blocks may provide similar analgesia while better-preserving motor function by targeting the highly innervated anterior hip capsule and sensory branches of the femoral, obturator, and accessory obturator nerves. Concerns about their potential impact on bone healing have been raised. The primary aim of this study was to explore patients’ experiences of the care trajectory and information provided after a new care program was introduced. The secondary aim was to explore patients' perspectives of their involvement and participation in shared decision-making throughout the care process. The care program features new educational material, recommendations for the sagittal surgical technique, and information about a rigid removable dressing, early liner treatment, and a multidisciplinary team follow up three weeks after amputation.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to validate the relationship between Hounsfield units (HU) and subsidence, including multilevel anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Cage/graft subsidence commonly occurs after ACDF. Prior work on 1-level ACDF found increased subsidence rates in patients with lower HUs.

Purpose: Knee effusion after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and reconstruction is associated with quadriceps dysfunction and may contribute to early osteoarthritis development. This study was subsequently designed to determine the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of our method for volumetric quantitative measurements of knee effusion using T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after ACL injury and reconstruction.

Methods: MRIs of 10 ACL-injured knees and 10 uninjured knees from participants aged 15-35 years old were included. The microdiscectomy procedure has been regarded as the preferred method for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Intraoperatively, the procedure may be further complicated due to underlying anatomical variations in the lumbar spine or nerve root variations. Nerve root anomalies (NRAs), in particular, are relatively underdiscussed within the literature. This study aimed to evaluate the rate of surgical intervention following collagenase treatment and identify whether specific risk factors increase the likelihood of future surgical correction.
