BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of failure to progress, the most common indication for intrapartum cesarean delivery, is based on the assessment of cervical dilation and station over time. Labor curves serve as references for expected changes in dilation and fetal descent. The labor curves of Friedman, Zhang et al, and others are based on time alone and derived from mothers with spontaneous labor onset. However, labor induction is now common, and clinicians also consider other factors when assessing labor progress. Labor curves that consider the use of labor induction and other factors that influence labor progress have the potential to be …

A laboratory-developed test (LDT) using analyte-specific reagents has been optimized on a commercial platform to detect macrolide resistance-associated mutations (MRM) in 23S rRNA from Mycoplasmoides genitalium from primary clinical specimens. In this study, MRM-LDT was applied to a multi-specimen source study set. One thousand four hundred ninety-five primary specimens testing positive for M. genitalium by commercial transcription-mediated amplification (TMA) were initially titered by the TMA assay using serial 10-fold dilutions to semi-quantitate target nucleic acid burden. Primary specimens were then processed for MRM detection using the MRM-LDT. Findings were stratified by gender and specimen source. The mean log10 target nucleic …

Chemotherapy such as cisplatin is widely used to treat ovarian cancer either before or after surgical debulking. However, cancer relapse due to chemotherapy resistance is a major challenge in the treatment of ovarian cancer. The underlying mechanisms related to chemotherapy resistance remain largely unclear. Therefore, identification of effective therapeutic strategies is urgently needed to overcome therapy resistance. Transcriptome-based analysis, in vitro studies and functional assays identified that cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cells express high levels of OSMR compared to cisplatin sensitive cells. Furthermore, OSMR expression associated with a module of integrin family genes and predominantly linked with integrin αV (ITGAV) and …

Introduction
Cesarean section (C-section) deliveries are on the rise, with an increase from 23.5% in the 1990s to 32.2% in 2022. Research has shown that poor communication by health care providers can lead to negative outcomes. Patients’ understanding of their C-section indications has significant implications for their future obstetric health. Therefore, interventions are needed to ensure optimal communication between providers and patients to improve outcomes.
Materials and Methods
Sixty-eight participants were enrolled and randomized into traditional counseling or teach-back intervention groups. Phone interviews were used to capture data at 2 weeks and 6 months postoperatively. Chi square and Fisher’s Exact …

Given the unremitting obstacles to effectively screen for and treat ovarian cancer (OC), prevention is a necessary countermeasure. The recent discovery of the fallopian tube as the origin of the most common and deadly type of OC, high grade serous cancer (HGSC), makes prevention through salpingectomy possible (Madsen et al., 2015). Opportunistic salpingectomy (OS) is the practice of removing the post-reproductive fallopian tubes at the time of other intraperitoneal surgery, or for sterilization in lieu of tubal ligation, to decrease OC risk (Falconer et al., 2015). The safety, effectiveness, and reach of OS as a primary prevention strategy depends on …
