Lung cancer is listed as the most common reason for cancer-related death all over the world despite diagnostic improvements and the development of chemotherapy and targeted therapies. MicroRNAs control both physiological and pathological processes including development and cancer. Background: DGF is acute kidney injury (AKI) defined as need for dialysis within one week of renal transplant. AKI is defined by a change in serum creatinine (SCr), however early recognition is limited by delay in creatinine rise. Accurate early biomarkers may lead to prevention or treatment of established AKI. The product of two novel biomarkers of cell cycle arrest, tissue Inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP-7) have shown promise in predicting AKI. Introduction: Metformin is a small, non-protein-bound molecule that can cause lactic acidosis in 6 out of 100,000 patients with a mortality rate of 30-50%. Concurrent euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) from sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor has been reported in one case. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Understanding the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on persons receiving COVID-19 testing will help guide mental health interventions. We aimed to determine the association between sociodemographic factors and mental health symptoms at 8 weeks (baseline) after a COVID-19 test, and compare prevalence of mental health symptoms at baseline to those at 16-week follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: A thyroid storm is a severe exacerbation of thyrotoxicosis that can cause significant morbidity and mortality. The emergence of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that originated in Wuhan, China, has become a worldwide pandemic. We present the first documented case of thyroid storm (as defined by the Burch-Wartofsky criteria) in a patient with COVID-19.

METHODS: Laboratory and diagnostic studies, including thyroid function tests, thyroid antibody testing, SARS-CoV-2 nasopharyngeal polymerase chain reaction testing, and thyroid ultrasound were performed.

Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is an uncommon cause of insidious onset shortness of breath and hypoxemia. It is caused by an accumulation of surfactant within the alveoli. Left untreated, it can be fatal. Standard-of-care treatment is whole-lung lavage; however, in severe cases, the associated hypoxemia can be profound and single-lung ventilation would not be tolerated, potentially preventing a lifesaving treatment. Single cases using veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to perform whole-lung lavage have been reported. Here we describe three patients with severe pulmonary alveolar proteinosis who were successfully treated with whole-lung lavage using veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for oxygenation support.

Background: Cancer patients are at increased risk of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI) due to malignancy itself, cancer therapy, and frequent antibiotic use and have a lower response rate to standard oral antibiotics. There are limited data on the safety and efficacy of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for treating rCDI in cancer patients. PURPOSE: Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a hyperkinetic movement disorder in which patients experience abnormal involuntary movements that can have profound negative impacts on physical, cognitive, and psychosocial functioning. Use of measures to assess the functional impact of TD in routine clinical practice is lacking. To address this gap, an advisory panel of experts in psychiatry and movement disorder neurology was convened to develop consensus recommendations on assessment of the impact of TD on patients' functioning that can be used in clinical practice.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DMT2) patients are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Prior to the era of cardio-vascular trial outcome (CVOT) evidence on the efficacy of old oral diabetes (OAD) drugs such as metformin, sulfonylurea, thiazolidindion, glinid, and alpha glucosidase inhibitors in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events was very limited. Since 2008, all OADs must have CVOT data. DPP-4 inhibitors are neutral against the risk of cardiovascular events while SGLT-2 inhibitors are reported to significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Our aim was to determine the factors associated with increased mortality in hospitalized patients admitted with diagnosis of influenza, at a tertiary care center in Pakistan. This study included all adult patients with an influenza infection, confirmed by realtime reverse-transcriptase polymerase-chain-reaction (RT-PCR) at Aga Khan University Hospital Pakistan. In our study, 112 patients with laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection were admittedat our hospital from the 1st of January 2013 to the 31st of December 2018.
