#Badgedtohire Final Report, Brian Laduca, Education Design Lab, Excalibur Education Group

IACT Reports, Publications and Resources

Education Design Lab, through professional input and focus groups, developed eight badges that address the instruction of “soft skills” to postsecondary students. With the emergence of alternative credentialing and badging, Education Design Lab wanted to contribute to the evidence of student confidence differences as attributed to completing the badge content as expressed on their resume, interview, and through application or example. Postsecondary institutions were engaged in this evaluation across the nation and allowed for three differing viewpoints on badge importance and expression – student, instruction, and employer.

Education Doctorate Dissertations

Adult Learners are no longer a minority population in the higher education landscape in the United States. They enter and re-enter technical and community colleges with a vast array of experiences and are often influenced by their Extra-Institutional Bonded Social Networks (EIBSN) which are identified in this research as: Family, Friends, Work, Community, and Religious/Spiritual. The college student’s academic journey is outlined in three major phases, what are identified in this research as: Entry/Re-Entry, Persistence, and Transfer/Graduation. This study researches the social impacts of the five identified EIBSN at each of the three phases and is underpinned by several theorists’ …

Making Learning Visible: Moving From Nouns To Verbs, Diane DeBacker 2022 Center for Certification and Competency Based Education (C3Be)

Making Learning Visible: Moving From Nouns To Verbs, Diane Debacker

2021-2030 ACER Research Conferences

This presentation focuses on the need to make learning visible for all constituents – learners, educators, employers, policymakers and future employees – with a focus on the work of the Center for Certification and Competency-Based Education (C3Be) at the University of Kansas (USA). As K–12 and higher education move to a post-pandemic world, it’s imperative we find different ways to identify learner outcomes and evaluate learning. By moving from nouns to verbs; by moving from course titles to competencies; by moving from transcripts to learner outcomes, learning becomes visible. International educator and founding director of C3Be, Dr Diane DeBacker shows …

The Employability Of State Ffa Degree Recipients In Alabama, Kailee D. Johnson 2022 Mississippi State University

The Employability Of State Ffa Degree Recipients In Alabama, Kailee D. Johnson

Theses and Dissertations

Many high schools have shifted from comprehensive graduation exams to a focus on College and Career Readiness. A common method used to determine when a student is college and career ready is a Career Readiness Indicator (CRI). Many CRIs demonstrate a benchmark learning goal for students. Among academic-based CRIs are Career and Technical Education (CTE) industry credentials. Credentials are just one way that agriculture classrooms contribute to student success. This study compiled existing research on CRIs and employability skills in CTE students to determine how the State FFA Degree could potentially fit into this category as well as highlight specific …

Framing The Needs Of School-Based Agricultural Education Teachers To Meet Twenty-First Century Programs Demands, Kayla Marsh

All Theses

Teacher attrition is a historic problem that globally is considered to be an educational crisis. SBAE is not exempt from this crisis with teacher shortages dating back to the passing of the Smith-Hughes Act in 1917. For the past three decades, researchers have studied this phenomenon to better understand the needs of SBAE teachers in order to increase recruitment and retention as well as improve work-life balance.

While several needs are recurring current efforts are not resulting in actionable change for SBAE teachers. To gain perspectives on the problem, qualitative interviews were conducted with SBAE teachers as well as an …

Conceptual Advancement Of Youth Apprenticeship Programs Using A Policy Delphi, Susan L. Wienand 2022 Old Dominion University

Conceptual Advancement Of Youth Apprenticeship Programs Using A Policy Delphi, Susan L. Wienand

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

Youth apprenticeship programs are a means of bridging the middle skills gap and rebuilding the workforce while combating youth underemployment and unemployment. Previous attempts to advance these programs were unsuccessful. The study identified concepts to include or modify in draft legislation and policy statements to increase the possibility of enactment and implementation. Twenty-three youth apprenticeship advocates participated as panelists in a four-round online policy Delphi to garner opinions on posited recommendations and panelists’ responses to openended prompts. A codifying committee of three educators/researchers was used to review, reduce, categorize, and code the qualitative data. The aggregated lists were used to …

The Effectiveness Of A Career And Technical Education Program Of Study On Preparing Students For Their Chosen Career, Rigoberto Vasquez 2022 Abilene Christian University

The Effectiveness Of A Career And Technical Education Program Of Study On Preparing Students For Their Chosen Career, Rigoberto Vasquez

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Attending a 4-year university is not a goal for all high school students. Some students, as early as their first year in high school, have chosen another direction by enrolling in a career and technical education (CTE) program of study (POS). The purpose of the study was to conduct a qualitative case study documenting the outcomes of past graduates of a CTE POS located on a public comprehensive high school campus in California. The participation of former graduates to share their insight and experience from being high school age students to working adults provided the real-life ramifications of the effectiveness …

Sustainable Partnership Strategy: Case Studies In Vocational High Schools And Partner Industries, Khusni Syauqi, Sudji Munadi, Mochamad Bruri Triyono

The Qualitative Report

A sustainable partnership strategy is essential in supporting the government's link and super match program in Indonesia. The partnership between vocational high schools and industry has a significant impact in producing competent graduates according to the needs of the world of work. However, the fact is that many schools and industries only form partnerships as a formality so that effective and efficient partnerships are not created, which has an impact on the program's discontinuity. Therefore, it is interesting to explore this issue more deeply about how the partnership strategy of vocational high schools and their partner industries can establish sustainable …

Power, Privilege, And Permission: A Qualitative Study On The Perspectives Of Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors Who Serve Racially Diverse Clients, Cherrelle Singleton

Dissertations

This qualitative study explored the experiences of vocational rehabilitation counselors (VRC) serving racially diverse clients and how VRCs are trained and educated to work with racially diverse clients. VRCs are typically employed by federally funded state or federal rehabilitation agencies. In their role, they aim to provide individualized tools and services that empower people with disabilities by alleviating barriers to being successful when preparing for and maintaining employment and being independent in their adult life (Donnell et al., 2013). Often tasked to work with clients who have marginalized identities including race and disability, VRCs must be able to understand and …

Executive Summary Resiliency Pilot Program – Liberty High School With Community Partners: Youthbuild Dayton And University Of Dayton, Brian Laduca, Jerry Farley

IACT Reports, Publications and Resources

Research led by Boston University Professor V. Scott Solberg has shown that among matched groups of students, resiliency is the key factor in determining why one group succeeds academically while others do not. There are six interrelated resiliency skills that can be measured and taught: Valuing Education. Academic Confidence, Connectedness, Stress Management, Health and Well-Being, and Intrinsic Motivation. And when students’ resiliency increases, their academic performance improves, along with attendance, behavior, and graduation rates, as well as significant improvements in engagement, confidence, perseverance, and postsecondary readiness. Because of research on the powerful impact of improved resiliency, a commitment was …

Towards A More Effective Leader: Planning For The Next Extension Administrator, Kenneth R. Jones

The Journal of Extension

This study was conducted to assess the level at which state Cooperative Extension systems have strategies in place for administrative leadership changes. The data revealed that institutions have succession plans ranging from those that are very robust to very limited in nature. However, only 50% reported having individuals in key positions necessary to support continuity. In addition, 75% noted that it would take a year or more to replace the current Extension director/administrator if the person left immediately. This article provides insight on the successes and challenges associated with retaining top talent and mentoring potential leaders for advancement.
