Purpose: To compare tensile fatigue and strength measures of biocomposite and all-suture anchors in an ovine humerus-infraspinatus tendon model of rotator cuff repair. Methods: Infraspinatus tendons on adult ovine humeri were sharply transected at the insertion. One of each pair was assigned randomly for fixation with 2 biocomposite or all-suture anchors. Constructs were tested with 200 cycles of 20 to 70 N tensile load, and gap formation was measured at the incised tendon end every 50 cycles. They were subsequently tested to failure. BACKGROUND: Current guidelines recommend resection with primary anastomosis with diverting loop ileostomy over Hartmann's procedure if deemed safe for acute diverticulitis. The primary objective of the current study was to compare the utilization of these strategies and describe nationwide ostomy closure patterns and readmission outcomes within 1 year of discharge.

METHODS: This was a retrospective, population-based, cohort study of United States Hospitals reporting to the Nationwide Readmissions Database from January 2011 to December 2019. There were 35,774 patients identified undergoing non-elective primary anastomosis with diverting loop ileostomy or Hartmann's procedure for acute diverticulitis. The KRAS proto-oncogene is a major driver of pancreatic tumorigenesis and is nearly ubiquitously mutated in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). KRAS point mutations are detected in over 90% of PDAC cases, and these mutations have been shown to be associated with worse therapy response and overall survival. Pathogenic KRAS mutations are mostly limited to codons 12, 13 and 61, with G12D, G12V, G12R, Q61H, and G13D accounting for approximately 95% of the mutant cases. BACKGROUND: Current guidelines recommend low-molecular-weight heparin for thromboprophylaxis after orthopaedic trauma. However, recent evidence suggests that aspirin is similar in efficacy and safety. To understand patients' experiences with these medications, we compared patients' satisfaction and out-of-pocket costs after thromboprophylaxis with aspirin versus low-molecular-weight heparin.

METHODS: This study was a secondary analysis of the PREVENTion of CLots in Orthopaedic Trauma (PREVENT CLOT) trial, conducted at 21 trauma centers in the U.S. and Canada. The aim of this study was to investigate the value of a deep learning model (DLM) in identifying unstable IAs from computed tomography angiography (CTA) images and to compare its discriminatory ability with that of a conventional logistic regression model (LRM).

BACKGROUND: Despite advancements in coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA), challenges in positive predictive value and specificity remain due to limited spatial resolution. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the effect of 2nd generation deep learning-based reconstruction (DLR) on the quantitative and qualitative image quality in coronary CTA.

METHODS: A vessel model with stepwise non-calcified plaque was scanned using 320-detector CT. Actinomycosis, a rare chronic bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces species, presents diagnostic challenges due to diverse clinical presentations. This report presents a case of peritoneal actinomycosis incidentally discovered during a total abdominal hysterectomy in a 44-year-old female with refractory abnormal uterine bleeding and a history of long-term intrauterine contraceptive device use. The patient presented with persistent abnormal uterine bleeding despite conservative management. Intraoperative findings during total abdominal hysterectomy revealed peritoneal involvement, prompting histopathological evaluation confirming actinomycosis. This case highlights diagnostic complexities associated with actinomycosis, emphasizing the significance of histopathological confirmation. Background: Single-dose del Nido solution was recently used in human donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart procurement. We compared the effect of del Nido cardioplegia on myocardial edema, inflammatory response, and injury in human DCD hearts and human donation after brain death (DBD) hearts with different warm ischemic times (WIT) and subsequent cold saline storage times (CST).

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive cancer resistant to current therapies, including oxaliplatin (Oxa). Growing evidence supports the ability of cancers to harness sphingolipid metabolism for survival. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is an anti-apoptotic, pro-survival mediator that can influence cellular functions such as endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. We hypothesize that PDAC drives dysregulated sphingolipid metabolism and that S1P inhibition can enhance ER stress to improve therapeutic response to Oxa in PDAC.
