Objectives

Using multiple well-validated measures and a large sample size, the goal of this paper was to describe the immediate clinical and behavioral recovery of children following tonsillectomy with or without an adenoidectomy (T&A) during the first two weeks following surgery.

Study design

Observational, longitudinal study.

Setting

Four major pediatric hospitals in the U.S. consisting of Children's Hospital of Orange County, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, and Children's Hospital Colorado.

Surgical resection remains to be the primary treatment for the majority of solid tumors, including breast cancer. The complete removal of the primary tumor, local metastases, and metastatic lymph nodes dramatically improve a patient’s treatment outcome and prognosis. Nevertheless, surgeons are limited to tactile and visual cues in distinguishing malignant and healthy tissue. This can result in a positive surgical margin (PSM), which occurs when tumor goes undetected and is left behind in the surgical cavity. Introduction: Analysis of smile is imperative in the diagnosis and treatment planning phases of aesthetic dentistry.
Aim: To evaluate the components of smile among students of a dental institution.
Methods: Frontal view digital photographs with posed smile of 157 dental students were assessed using Adobe Photoshop7.0. Smile characteristics evaluated included; smile line, smile arc, smile design, upper lip curvature, labiodental relationship and number of teeth displayed. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23.0. Pearson chi-square test was used to determine the gender based differences for various parameters.

The approach to treating vestibular schwannomas ranges from wait-and-scan policies to micro-and radiosurgery. However, in the past few decades, Stereotac tic Radiosurgery (SRS) has emerged as an approved primary treatment option as well. In this review, we have assessed some of the existing literature on the role of SRS in the management of vestibular schwannomas, and to estimate its efficacy in tumour control and conservation of cranial nerve function.

Diabetes is a recognized risk factor for postoperative infection, acute renal failure, ileus, and lengthy hospital stay. Optimal screening, management, and scheduling of elective surgery for diabetic patients has been shown to improve quality care, decrease complications, and increase the efficiency and lower the costs of preoperative patient care. However, surgery cancellations are common due to inadequate preoperative glycemic control and poor intraoperative glycemic control, which is a recognized risk factor for perioperative or postoperative complications. Background: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is associated with less pain, faster recovery, and lower complication rates. Despite being the standard of care, it remains underutilized in rural Nebraska. Surgeon shortages and limited studies describing patient and provider factors influencing treatment gaps contribute to unnecessary complications and healthcare expenditure. Our study aimed to understand rural surgical care barriers and facilitators encountered by patients, providers, and stakeholders in Nebraska. Fractures of the proximal humerus are commonly associated with osteoporosis and comprise 5.7% of all adult fractures [1]. Posterior dislocations of the shoulder comprise 2-5% of all shoulder dislocations, and when bilateral are even more infrequent, occurring less than 5%. [2,3]. Posterior dislocations are often associated with motor vehicle accidents, seizures, or electrical shock [4]. Fracture-dislocations of the proximal humerus occur in only 1% of all shoulder dislocations, thus making posterior fracture-dislocations off the proximal humerus exceedingly rare [5]. Pneumoperitoneum is most commonly associated with a perforated viscus. When free air is seen on imaging, the most common course of action is an emergent exploratory laparotomy. However, pneumoperitoneum may not always be indicative of a perforated bowel. In the case described below, we will discuss a patient who developed acute peritonitis and pneumoperitoneum after undergoing chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and positive pressure mechanical ventilation.
