Central venous port-a-catheters play a pivotal role in various medical procedures, yet they are associated with a spectrum of complications. Catheter fracture with cardiac migration is a rare complication, occurring in less than 1% of patients. Although not very common, it can cause severe issues, necessitating fragment removal. We present a case of spontaneous mediport fracture and migration in a patient with a history of Hodgkin's lymphoma and prior chemotherapy. He presented with nausea, vomiting, and tachycardia. Further evaluation revealed elevated total leukocyte count and labs consistent with diabetic ketoacidosis. He was diagnosed with new-onset diabetes mellitus. Imaging studies confirmed …

Radiology and pathology, though distinct fields within medical education, share a common foundation in their essential roles for accurate diagnosis and understanding of diseases. While pathology, particularly histopathology, has long been integrated into preclinical medical education in the United States, radiology education has traditionally been less emphasized. This paper examines the historical development of histopathology training in medical education and its central role, contrasting it with the comparatively peripheral position of radiology education. Magnetic resonance images (MRI) is integral in assessing pathology. This is especially true in the emergency room (ER), where delays in diagnosing emergent neurologic pathologies, including spinal epidural abscesses (EDAs), where the morbidity can be severe if not addressed in time. This study aims to implement an expedited imaging pathway for this urgent / emergent pathology.

Introduction: This case report highlights a 73-year-old male with biopsy-proven neutrophilic dermatosis with concern for Sweet Syndrome in the context of suspected hydralazine-induced systemic lupus erythematosus and autoimmune markers that initially pointed towards hydralazine-induced ANCA vasculitis. Case Presentation: The patient is a 73-year-old male with a past medical history significant for chronic kidney disease, urothelial cancer in 2021, renal cancer in 2013, and stage 1A left lung cancer. The patient additionally underwent workup for low white count and splenomegaly in months leading up to hospitalization, with bone marrow biopsy and workup negative for myelodysplastic syndrome or malignancy. INTRODUCTION

Deep learning is a method of artificial intelligence involving progressively layered neural networks to extrapolate patterns from data to provide predictions. Moreover, given the arduous nature required for examining CT scans for intracranial aneurysms, discovering ways to expedite this process is beneficial. The use of deep learning to evaluate CT angiograms for intracranial aneurysms has been sparsely studied. This literature review aims to determine the accuracy and reliability of deep learning to analyze CT angiograms in patients suspected to have intracranial aneurysms.

Schizophrenia is a complex mental illness with neurobiological underpinnings and misconceptions about violence. Schizophrenia is associated with high levels of creativity and structural traits like fewer D2 receptors. Patients face reduced life expectancy due to cardiovascular diseases and cope through smoking and sedentariness. Treatment involves pharmacological antipsychotics like olanzapine and nonpharmacological approaches. Olanzapine works by antagonizing D2 receptors but has side effects like weight gain and diabetes risk. fMRI is used to study treatment mechanisms and predict response, but research on olanzapine's brain network effects is limited.

Purpose:

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an abdominal inflammatory condition that is common in premature neonates. Although abdominal radiograph (AR) remains the imaging standard for NEC, it may miss up to 50% of early signs of NEC and has been described to have a sensitivity as low as 15.4% for detecting pneumoperitoneum. Abdominal ultrasound (US) is portable, non-invasive, and allows real-time bowel integrity, movement, and perfusion assessment. We aim to evaluate the concordance between US and AR in detecting NEC features and the diagnostic performance of both modalities in detecting pneumoperitoneum.

Importance: SARS-CoV-2 viral load (VL) in the nasopharynx is difficult to quantify and standardize across settings, but it may inform transmission potential and disease severity.

Objective: To characterize VL at COVID-19 diagnosis among previously uninfected and unvaccinated individuals by evaluating the association of demographic and clinical characteristics, viral variant, and trial with VL, as well as the ability of VL to predict severe disease.

Postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) utilized as part of a breast cancer treatment regimen reduces the risk of disease recurrence in appropriately selected patients.1,2,3,4,5 However, PMRT increases risk of radiationrelated toxicities that can interfere with breast reconstruction post-mastectomy.6 Following mastectomy, implant-based reconstruction can increase patient satisfaction and quality of life7,8; complications induced by PMRT such as infection and tissue contracture, though, increase risk for implant loss and may ultimately require further surgeries for the patient.

  • Whole breast irradiation (WBI) has been used in the treatment of breast cancer patients after partial mastectomy.
  • There has been increasing utilization of hypofractionated whole breast irradiation (HWBI), defined as a larger daily dose and fewer fractions compared to conventionally fractionated whole breast irradiation (CWBI). However, HWBI for patients with early-stage, biologically high-risk breast cancer remains relatively low.

We report a patient with history of recurrent invasive rectal adenocarcinoma complicated by obstructive uropathy requiring nephro-ureteral catheter placement. Two years later during a regular catheter exchange, the patient developed unusually bloody urine raising suspicion for possible vascular injury. CT angiogram and conventional angiogram were negative. However, an antegrade nephrostogram revealed a fistulous communication between the right ureter and the right internal iliac artery. Subsequently, the artery was sacrificed using detachable coils. We discuss the rare encounter of a silent arterio-ureteral fistula, the value of antegrade nephrostogram as a diagnostic tool, and the management options in such scenario.

High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (HGSOC) has a 5-year survival rate of less than 50%. Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest gynecological diseases and the 7th most common female cancer worldwide. Ovarian cancer patients generally have a poor prognosis despite the relatively successful treatments. When conventional cancer treatments, such as cisplatin chemotherapy and photon irradiation, are administered, residual cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) can survive, leading to CSC enrichment. CSCs are a small population of cancer cells that exhibit stem-like characteristics: quiescence (slowing of the cell cycle), differentiation, proliferation, and self-renewal to regenerate new CSCs.
