Introduction: Degenerative spine disease is a disabling condition affecting many worldwide. Transoforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) procedures help stabilize the spine, while improving back and/or leg pain. With the introduction of new implant designs and modifications, focus has shifted to optimizing spinopelvic alignment, fusion rates, and more. This study aims to explore the effect of static versus expandable polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages on patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) and radiographic outcomes (subsidence, disk height, and alignment parameters).

Introduction: Previous studies involving operative management of Achilles tendon ruptures have attempted to determine if patient factors influence outcomes. No previous study has attempted to identify outcome predictors in patients exclusively undergoing surgical repair. The purpose of this study is to determine if any injury or patient variables were predictive of outcomes following operative management of Achilles ruptures.

Methods: Patient demographics including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), comorbidities (diabetes mellitus, depression, anxiety), mechanism of injury (sports, non-sports), and date of injury were collected. The study of localized immune-related factors has proven beneficial for a variety of conditions, and one area of interest in the field of orthopaedics is the impact of implants and localized infections on immune response. Several cytokines have shown increased systemic concentrations (in serum/plasma) in response to implants and infection, but tissue-level cytokines have not been investigated as thoroughly.

In the pediatric population, femoral neck fractures are usually associated with high-impact trauma and often present with pain in the groin area. Regional anesthesia can offer adjunctive therapy for acute pain management. Various techniques have been employed to circumvent pain related to hip fractures and resultant hip surgery. Neuraxial, lumbar plexus, caudal, epidural, fascia iliaca, and femoral continuous nerve block techniques are advantageous in mitigating hip pain. However, these approaches require patient repositioning during placement and carry the potential for motor blockade with resultant weakness. Background: A shift in the healthcare system towards the centralization of common yet costly surgeries, such as total hip arthroplasty (THA), to high-volume centers of excellence, is an attempt to control the economic burden while simultaneously enhancing patient outcomes. The "volume-outcome" relationship suggests that hospitals performing more treatment of a given type exhibit better outcomes than hospitals performing fewer. This theory has surfaced as an important factor in determining patient outcomes following THA. An estimated 80% of clubfoot cases occur in low to middle-income countries. Incidence of clubfoot is estimated to be 1-1.5 per 1000 births, and male to female occurrence is 3:1. (1) Left untreated, this congenital anomaly becomes a “neglected clubfoot” and can result in lifelong hardships including limited ambulation related to gait deviations, pain, foot deformities and an inability to wear shoes. Without treatment, this health condition can lead to functional limitations with limited independence in activities of daily living and participation restrictions within the family and community related to decreased mobility. Bone is richly innervated by nerve growth factor-responsive (NGF-responsive) tropomyosin receptor kinase A-expressing (TrKa-expressing) sensory nerve fibers, which are required for osteochondral progenitor expansion during mammalian skeletal development. Aside from pain sensation, little is known regarding the role of sensory innervation in bone repair. Here, we characterized the reinnervation of tissue following experimental ulnar stress fracture and assessed the impact of loss of TrkA signaling in this process. Patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) frequently report pain, stiffness, fatigue, and sleep problems, which may lead to impaired physical activity. The majority of reported-on measures evaluating physical activity and sleep disturbance in axSpA are self-reported questionnaires, which can be impacted by patient recall (reporting bias). One objective measure, polysomnography, has been employed to evaluate sleep in patients with axSpA; however, it is an intrusive measure and cannot be used over the long term. Bone quality in diabetic patients is compromised, leading to weaker bones and increased fracture risk. However, the mechanism by which this occurs in diabetic bone remains to be fully elucidated. We hypothesized that elevated glucose and glucose variation would affect the function of osteocytes, essential regulators of bone homeostasis and quality. To first test this hypothesis, we used the IDG-SW3 osteocyte-like cell line to examine the effects of glucose levels on osteocyte function and viability in vitro. There are limited data on the lesion volume changes following spinal cord injury (SCI). In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the volume size changes of the injured spinal cord over time among animal studies in traumatic SCI. Information was used to improve the patient journey and to achieve patient-centered care. Patients (>18 years, purposive sampling) were interviewed once at one point of their total knee arthrosis journey within the hospital setting. Patients were accompanied and observed during their hospital visit by one of the 19 healthcare professionals which were trained as interviewers. A qualitative research approach with in-depth and semi-structured interviews using a standardized interview guide were used to gather an in-depth understanding of the perceptions of patients. Objective: Establish between-day test-retest reliability metrics for 2-dimensional frontal plane projection angles (FPPAs) during the lateral step-down (LSD), single-limb squat (SLS), single-limb landing (SLL), and drop vertical jump (DVJ).

Design: Test-retest reliability study

Setting: University laboratory

Participants: 20 healthy adults (12 female, age = 23.60±1.93 years old, body mass index = 24.26±2.54 kg/m²) were tested on 2 separate occasions 7-14 days apart.

The nucleus pulposus (NP) cells adapt to their physiologically hyperosmotic microenvironment through Tonicity-responsive enhancer binding protein (TonEBP/nuclear factor of activated T-cell5 [NFAT5])-mediated osmoregulation. Primary cilia in different organs serve diverse roles including osmosensing, but its contribution to NP cell osmoadaptive response is unknown. A high percentage of cultured primary NP cells possessed primary cilia that changed length in response to osmotic stimuli. Stable silencing of Intraflagellar Transport 88 (Ift88) or Kinesin Family Member 3 A (Kif3a) to inhibit the formation of primary cilia did not affect hyperosmotic upregulation of TonEBP.
