Introduction: Despite growing evidence that suggests an association between hip pathology and pelvic floor disorder (PFD), the comprehensive effects of hip surgery on PFD symptoms are not well understood. The primary purpose of this study was to report the role of surgical hip procedures on the severity of PFD symptoms.

Methods: A prospective database of demographic and outcome data for all female patients that were operated on between 2019-2020 at a single institution was queried. BACKGROUND: Studies of clinical outcomes that compare the elastic stable intramedullary nail (ESIN) with the submuscular plate (SMP) were controversial. The meta-analysis was performed to summarize existing evidence, aiming to determine whether ESIN was superior to SMP in pediatric femur shaft fractures.

METHODS: Search strategies followed the recommendations of the Cochrane collaboration. Electronic searches such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane were systematically searched for publications concerning ESIN and SMP from the inception date to March 2023. Background: Spontaneous hemarthrosis of the knee joint in the elderly population is a rare phenomenon and is mostly seen in those with osteoarthritis. The identified causes of spontaneous hemarthrosis in this demographic include subchondral bone bleeding, meniscal tear, genicular artery bleeding, and the use of anticoagulants. Hemarthrosis caused by isolated patellofemoral bleeding, as in this case series, has been rarely documented and poorly described.

Background: Hip precautions are traditionally employed after posterior total hip arthroplasty (THA). The primary purpose was to investigate the necessity of hip precautions after posterior approach THA. We hypothesized that eliminating precautions in patients that achieved appropriate intraoperative stability would not increase the dislocation rate.

Methods: Randomized controlled trial of 346 consecutive eligible patients undergoing primary THA with a mean follow-up of 2.3 years (range 11 months to 3.7 years). Exclusion criteria: lumbar fusion, scoliosis, abductor insufficiency, inability to achieve intraoperative stability with combined 90° flexion and 45° internal rotation in 0° adduction. Background: Diagnosing GCL can be extremely difficult due to the rarity of these lesions. Histologically many benign GCL mimic each other and can further be mistaken for a malignant GCL. Additionally confusing the diagnosis, many benign GCL have significant morphological overlap. However, it is of utmost importance to arrive at an accurate diagnosis as treatment varies significantly based on the pathology. Our patient presentation highlights that differentiating GCLs can be a diagnostic challenge as illustrated. Our review of the literature found scarce reports of multifocal non-ossifying fibroma. Background: The difficulty in diagnosing Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is exacerbated by the more varied presentation of PJI and the lower synovial fluid WBC count thresholds applied when a prosthesis is present. Multiple reports have described pseudosepsis after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) due to gout or pseudogout. Further confusing the picture, periprosthetic infection also frequently coexists with crystalline arthropathy. Our review of the literature revealed no reports describing reactive arthritis (ReA) mimicking acute infection in the setting of previous TKA. Long bone osteomyelitis could mimic bony tumor in clinical presentation and imaging studies. We present a case of a 47-year man who presented with leg pain, weight loss and night sweats that initially was thought to be related to osteosarcoma, later suffered a pathologic fracture from Staphylococcus aureus osteomyelitis. This case highlights the importance of source control of infection and careful clinical evaluation including radiographic and pathologic findings that can help physicians to differentiate between competing diagnoses.

Numerous surgical options have been introduced for the treatment of chronic refractory lateral epicondylitis of the elbow, but it remains unclear which option is superior. The clinical outcomes of an open surgery group and an arthroscopic surgery group were evaluated, and the results of the 2 procedures were compared. From among patients with lateral epicondylitis refractory to 6 months of conservative treatment, 68 patients satisfying study criteria were recruited. Open surgery was performed in 34 cases (group 1), and arthroscopic surgery was performed in 34 cases (group 2). OBJECTIVES: The objectives of our study were to (1) determine if physical therapy (PT) impacts patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) after lumbar decompression surgery and (2) determine if PT impacts postsurgical readmissions or reoperations after lumbar decompression surgery.

METHODS: Patients >18 years of age who underwent primary one‑ or two‑level lumbar decompression at our institution were identified. Patient demographics, surgical characteristics, surgical outcomes (all‑cause 90 days readmissions and 90 days surgical readmissions), and patient‑reported outcomes (PROMs) were compared between the groups. BACKGROUND: Lateral lumbar interbody fusions (LLIFs) utilize a retroperitoneal approach that avoids the intraperitoneal organs and manipulation of the anterior vasculature encountered in anterior approaches to the lumbar spine. The approach was championed by spinal surgeons; however, general/vasculature surgeons may be more comfortable with the approach.

Tendon-bone injuries are a prevalent health concern associated with sports and other physically demanding activities. These injuries have a limited innate healing ability, often leading to the formation of scar tissue rather than the regeneration of healthy tendon tissue. This scar tissue results from excessive fibrosis during the early healing process and often leads to reduced tendon function and an increased risk of reinjury. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to determine if patients with mild scoliosis and age-appropriate sagittal alignment have favorable outcomes following surgical correction.

METHODS: Retrospective review of a prospective, multicenter adult spinal deformity database. Highly organized collagen fibrils interlacing with proteoglycans form the crucial architecture of the cornea and facilitate its transparency. Corneal scarring from accidental injury, surgery, or infection alters this highly organized tissue, causing severe consequences, including blindness. There are no pharmacological or surgical methods to effectively and safely treat excessive corneal scarring. Thus, we tested the anticorneal scarring utility of a rationally designed anticollagen antibody (ACA) whose antifibrotic effects have already been demonstrated in nonocular models. Background:. Few evidence-based suggestions are available to help applicants and mentors improve reapplication outcomes. We sought to provide program directors' (PDs) perspectives on actionable steps to improve reapplicants' chances for a match. Methods:. The PDs were asked to rank positions unmatched applicants can pursue, steps these applicants can take for the next application cycle, and reasons why reapplicants do not match. Results:. Responses from 66 of 123 PDs were received (53.6% response rate). Obtaining new recommendation letters and rotating with orthopaedics were the highest 20 ranked steps unmatched applicants can take. Purpose: Synovial fibrosis (SFb) formation and turnover attributable to knee osteoarthritis (KOA) can impart painful stiffness and persist following arthroplasty. To supplement joint conditioning aimed at maximizing peri-operative function, we evaluated the antifibrotic effect of Minoxidil (MXD) on formation of pyridinoline (Pyd) cross-links catalyzed by Plod2-encoded lysyl hydroxylase (LH)2b that strengthen newly synthesized type-I collagen (COL1) in fibroblastic synovial cells (FSCs) from KOA patients. MXD was predicted to decrease Pyd without significant alterations to Col1a1 transcription by FSCs stimulated with transforming growth factor (TGF)β1.
