Given the high risk of infection-related mortality, patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) may be at increased risk with COVID-19. To assess this, we compared outcomes of patients with and without ESKD, hospitalized with COVID-19. This was a retrospective study of patients admitted with COVID-19 from 13 New York. hospitals from March 1, 2020, to April 27, 2020, and followed through May 27, 2020. © 2020 Since the arteriovenous fistula (AVF) was first conceived over 50 years ago, the goal to create a vascular conduit with predictable and reproducible maturation and durability continues to elude caregivers. Recently, however, advances in the understanding of vascular biology and new technologies now provides us with some optimism; we are moving toward a viable solution. A quickly maturing, sustainable, and durable arteriovenous access may soon be attainable. This review will discuss these advances. This study describes the presentation, risk factors and outcomes of AKI in patients hospitalized with Covid-19. We reviewed the health records for all patients hospitalized with Covid-19 between March 1, and April 5, 2020, at 13 academic and community hospitals in metropolitan New York. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common among hospitalized patients with Coronavirus Infectious Disease 2019 (COVID-19), with the occurrence of AKI ranging from 0.5% to 80%. The variability in the occurrence of AKI has been attributed to the difference in geographic locations, race/ethnicity, and severity of illness. AKI among hospitalized patients is associated with increased length of stay and in-hospital deaths. Even patients with AKI who survive to hospital discharge are at risk of developing chronic kidney disease or end-stage kidney disease. © 2019 Federation of European Biochemical Societies We evaluated alterations in the structural configurations of channels and activation of nucleotide-binding domain, leucine-rich-containing family, pyrin domain-containing-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome formation in apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1) risk and nonrisk milieus. APOL1G1- and APOL1G2-expressing podocytes (PD) displayed enhanced K+ efflux, induction of pyroptosis, and escalated transcription of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18. APOL1G1- and APOL1G2-expressing PD promoted the transcription as well as translation of proteins involved in the formation of inflammasomes. Scleroderma renal crisis is a serious complication that can develop in certain patients with systemic sclerosis. Some risks have been identified as potential triggers of scleroderma renal crisis, including the high-dose oral corticosteroids. Here, we present a patient who developed clinically severe systemic sclerosis and scleroderma renal crisis after exposure to oral corticosteroids and intravitreal vascular endothelial growth factor blockade with bevacizumab for cotton wool spots. The patient's scleroderma renal crisis was severe, progressive, and refractory to the standard of care therapy: oral captopril. Introduction: Post-transplant Proliferative Disorder (PTLD) is a significant complication after solid organ transplantation (SOT). Major risk factors that contribute to the development of PTLD include Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection and degree of immunosuppression. Despite novel therapies, the 5-year survival rate of PTLD only improved from 40% to 50% over the years. The reported 5-year survival rate of PTLD also remains significantly lower compared to around 90% in other malignancies such as breast and colon cancer. In our center, we hypothesize better transplant outcomes compared to those reported in preceding literatures.

Background: Children with nephrotic syndrome (NS) are at high risk for vaccine-preventable infections due to the immunological effects from the disease and concurrent treatment with immunosuppressive medications. Immunizations in these patients may be deferred due to their immunosuppressive treatment which may increase the risk for vaccine-preventable infections. Immunization practices in children with NS continue to vary among pediatric nephrologists. This raises the question of whether children with NS are receiving the recommended vaccinations at appropriate times. Therefore, it is critical to understand the practices and patient education provided by physicians to patients on the topic of vaccinations.

The Chronic Kidney Disease in Children Study, a prospective cohort study with data collected from 2003 to 2018, provided the first opportunity to characterize the incidence of renal replacement therapy (RRT) initiation over the life course of pediatric kidney diseases. In the current analysis, parametric generalized gamma models were fitted and extrapolated for RRT overall and by specific treatment modality (dialysis or preemptive kidney transplant). Children were stratified by type of diagnosis: nonglomerular (mostly congenital; n = 650), glomerular-hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS; n = 49), or glomerular-non-HUS (heterogeneous childhood onset; n = 216).
