Objectives: The objective of this study is to examine the overall as well as age- and sex-specific burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the US using nationwide commercial claims data from 2016-2019.

Research Design and Methods We used nationwide commercial claims data (1/1/2016-12/31/2019) from Merative™MarketScan to identify adults ≥20 years with T1D (ascertained using ICD-10 codes). CVD was ascertained using ICD-10 diagnostic codes for myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease, and stroke. METHODS: We collected surgical pathological tissues from PC patients who received radical surgery in our hospital from September 2004 to December 2014. Mendelian randomization (MR) is an epidemiological framework using genetic variants as instrumental variables (IVs) to examine the causal effect of exposures on outcomes. Statistical methods based on unidirectional MR (UMR) are widely used to estimate the causal effects of exposures on outcomes in observational studies. To estimate the bidirectional causal effects between two phenotypes, investigators have naively applied UMR methods separately in each direction. However, bidirectional causal effects between two phenotypes create a feedback loop that biases the estimation when UMR methods are naively applied. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed at investigating a set of peripheral cytokines in elderly female patients with MDD, comparing them to controls, and assessing the potential influence of clinical comorbidities on inflammatory markers.

METHODS: Twenty-five elderly female patients diagnosed with MDD and 19 age-matched female controls were enrolled on this study. Plasma levels of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-6, IL-10, interferon (IFN)-γ and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were evaluated with commercially-available assays.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL) are rare neuroendocrine tumors. Here, we report an unusual case of synchronous PPGL in an asymptomatic patient with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).

CASE REPORT: A 49-year-old woman with a history of TSC and end-stage renal disease was referred for evaluation of bilateral adrenal and retroperitoneal masses. She denied chest pain, palpitations, headaches, or previous hypertensive crisis. The laboratory test results showed a plasma normetanephrine level of 20.20 nmol/L (normal range, 0.00-0.89 nmol/L) and plasma chromogranin A level Chromogranin A (CgA) levels of 1518 ng/mL (normal range, 0-103 ng/mL). School gardens provide rich outdoor learning opportunities for young children. Practical considerations about garden maintenance, in particular, watering, can impeed success. This manuscript chronicles the development of garden maintenance strategies in Sustainability via Active Garden Education (SAGE). Background: Variables such as dietary intake are measured with error yet frequently used in observational epidemiology. Although this limitation is sometimes noted, these variables are still often modeled as covariates without formal correction or sincere dialogue about measurement unreliability potentially weakening the validity of statistical conclusions. Further, larger sample sizes increase power (bias) to detect spurious correlations. Counterintuitively, recent work suggested a non-monotonic relationship between confounder unreliability and how much controlling for the confounder reduces (or induces) bias when testing for an exposure-outcome association. Background: Smith Magenis Syndrome (SMS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by RAI1 haploinsufficiency. Obesity in people with SMS is believed partially due to dysfunction of the proximal melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) pathway. We therefore studied effects of treatment with the MC4R agonist setmelanotide on obesity and hunger, as well as metabolic, cardiac and safety, in individuals with SMS.

Background: Shared plate eating (SPE), defined as two or more individuals eating directly from the same plate or bowl, is a common household food consumption practice in many Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Examination of household engagement in SPE remains largely unexplored, highlighting a gap in research when interpreting dietary information obtained from these settings. Flat epithelium (FE) is a condition characterized by the loss of both hair cells (HCs) and supporting cells and the transformation of the organ of Corti into a simple flat or cuboidal epithelium, which can occur after severe cochlear insults. The transcription factors Gfi1, Atoh1, Pou4f3, and Six1 (GAPS) play key roles in HC differentiation and survival in normal ears.
