Background: Senior-friendly emergency department (ED) care is emerging to address large numbers of older adults in healthcare and implementation is variable.

Objectives: We aimed to explore key healthcare providers’ perspectives on factors affecting implementation of senior-friendly ED care during the first five years of the Senior-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the Province of Quebec, Canada.

SARS-COV 2 recently caused a global pandemic, with the first case being reported in Romania in February 2020. Important restrictive measures were imposed, so that the addressability of patients to medical services decreased. Upper gastrointestinal bleeding had more severe forms of evolution at the time of presentation, which required additional methods of diagnosis and treatment. Despite remarkable advances in medicine, limb amputations remain a therapeutic measure that saves the lives of many patients. Given the varied etiopathogenesis, such operations are performed both as an emergency and as an elective procedure. Such interventions address either only the distal segments of a limb, or even the entire limb, having a great psychological, functional and social impact on the patient. The eye lens is a transparent, ellipsoid organ in the anterior chamber of the eye that is required for fine focusing of light onto the retina to transmit a clear image. Cataracts, defined as any opacity in the lens, remains the leading cause of blindness in the world. Recent studies in humans and mice indicate that Eph-ephrin bidirectional signaling is important for maintaining lens transparency. Specifically, mutations and polymorphisms in the EphA2 receptor and the ephrin-A5 ligand have been linked to congenital and age-related cataracts. BACKGROUND: Composing the History of Present Illness (HPI), a key component of medical communication, requires critical thinking. Small group learning strategies have demonstrated superior effectiveness at developing critical thinking skills. Finding sufficient faculty facilitators for small groups remains a major gap in implementing these sessions. We hypothesized that "near-peer" teachers could effectively teach HPI documentation skills and fill the gap of small group facilitators. Emergency departments (ED) across the United States see many patients with advanced disease nearing the end of life. ED providers make many important decisions that impact a patient’s hospital course, including resuscitation decisions. When patients’ preferences are not known, treatment in the ED frequently defaults to maximally aggressive care. The Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST) form has been shown to lead to more goal-concordant care for these patients by providing detailed instructions regarding end-of-life interventions, made by the patient and/or medical decision maker.

Background: The Midwest Pediatric Surgery Consortium (MWPSC) has suggested a management algorithm to include simple aspiration of primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP), failing which, Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) should be considered. We describe our outcomes in patients who have been managed with this suggested protocol.

The Core Registry collects data from participating sites with the agreement that all bedside and telehealth medical toxicology consultations will be entered. This twelfth annual report summarizes the registry's 2021 data and activity with its additional 8552 cases. Introduction The 2016 Clinical Learning Environment Review established that experiential patient safety curricula for residents are uncommon. Moreover, these curricula do not incorporate non-technical skills linked to safety, such as situational awareness (SA). We developed an in-situ patient safety simulation exercise incorporating core SA concepts and subsequently assessed exercise feasibility and acceptability, and measured residents' safety SA. Methods A simulation scenario and mock chart were designed, incorporating 16 patient safety hazards. OBJECTIVES: To determine the association of prior use of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASIs) with mortality and outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

SUBJECTS: Adult hospitalized COVID-19 patients on antihypertensive agents (AHAs) prior to admission, admitted from March 31, 2020, to March 10, 2021.

INTRODUCTION: Older adults frequently return to an emergency department (ED) within 30 days of an initial visit. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of an adapted Care Transitions Intervention (CTI) at reducing risk of ED revisits within 30 days for older adults who live alone.
