Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (DEGEE) is a promising solvent component in topical cream formulations due to its superior solubilizing abilities with certain active pharmaceutical ingredients. One of the goals of this study is to characterize the effects of pH on the physical and chemical stabilities of topical cream formulations containing particularly high concentrations of DEGEE by characterizing a full topical pH profile of 3.5 – 9.0. Accurate prediction of facial soft-tissue changes following orthognathic surgery is crucial for surgical outcome improvement. We developed a novel incremental simulation approach using finite element method (FEM) with a realistic lip sliding effect to improve the prediction accuracy in the lip region. First, a lip-detailed mesh is generated based on accurately digitized lip surface points. Second, an improved facial soft-tissue change simulation method is developed by applying a lip sliding effect along with the mucosa sliding effect. Despite the fact that AML is the most common acute leukemia in adults, patient outcomes are poor necessitating the development of novel therapies. We identified that inhibition of Thioredoxin Reductase (TrxR) is a promising strategy for AML and report a highly potent and specific inhibitor of TrxR, S-250. Both pharmacologic and genetic inhibition of TrxR impairs the growth of human AML in mouse models. We found that TrxR inhibition leads to a rapid and marked impairment of metabolism in leukemic cells subsequently leading to cell death. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remains a routine operation despite major advancements in angioplastic procedures. Around 200,000 CABG procedures are performed annually in the U.S. Patients who are not candidates for angioplasty intervention often have advanced coronary disease and comorbidities that raise the risk of heart failure with decreased ejection fraction to around 25%. Over the years, significant developments in various preoperative interventions have occurred; in this paper, we suggest a multidisciplinary preoperative algorithm that can be included in a regularly scheduled multidisciplinary care plan.

A Caucasian man in early 80s was seen in Gastroenterology Clinic, following, referral from the Endocrinology Clinic for concerns for CT Abdomen requested for tiredness and weight loss of three kilograms. The patient also had microcytic picture with low MCV and Ferritin and hypomagnesemia. The CT suggested gross circumferential thickening of the wall of stomach with advice for invasive investigations to further characterise the CT findings. The Endoscopy suggested grossly enlarged rugae in the stomach, and enlarged gastric polyps. Patient was assured no new sinister abnormality. The disease is often recurrent, especially in people living in close contacts, such as in a community; thus, it negatively impacts their quality of life (QoL).This study analyzes the impact of pruritus in scabies on the QoL of patients living in a public boarding school (PBS) in West Java, Indonesia.

Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic skin disorder that is commonly seen in young adults. Recent studies have shown that bacteria other than Cuticubacterium acnes found in the skin microbiota also play vital roles in the pathogenesis of AV. Understanding the skin microbiota and its disruption in patients with AV is paramount in treating patients with AV.

Background: Nevus sebaceous (NS) is a common hamartoma of the cutaneous adnexal structure, clinically appear as a well demarcated yellow-orange plaque, sometimes with verrucous surface. Dermoscopy may aid the diagnosis of NS and also guide carbon dioxide (CO2) laser therapy.

Case Illustration: Two cases of brown and yellowish plaque on the face, with clinical appearance, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings consistent with NS. The patients consented to undergo serial CO­2laser destruction, aimed to reduce recurrences and shorten the duration of the downtime. Inactivating mutations in ABCC6 underlie the rare hereditary mineralization disorder pseudoxanthoma elasticum. ABCC6 is an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) integral membrane protein that mediates the release of ATP from hepatocytes into the bloodstream. The released ATP is extracellularly converted into pyrophosphate, a key mineralization inhibitor. Although ABCC6 is firmly linked to cellular ATP release, the molecular details of ABCC6-mediated ATP release remain elusive. Two and a half to three and a half million adults seek care in the emergency department annually for this condition. Opioid medications are commonly administered and prescribed for pain, especially following the Joint Commission’s campaign in 2001 characterizing “pain as the 5th vital sign”.
