STUDY OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether the introduction of a 1-hour high-sensitivity cardiac troponin-T (hs-TnT) pathway for patients who present to the emergency department (ED) with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) improves ED patient flow without changing the rate of "missed" major adverse cardiac events (MACE), compared to use of conventional cardiac troponin with an associated 3-hour pathway.

OBJECTIVE: Robot-assisted coronary artery bypass (RCAB) is typically not offered to higher risk patients with reduced cardiopulmonary function, critical coronary artery disease, and challenging chest wall anatomy. In this study, we report the novel use of nonemergency intraoperative peripheral extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as partial cardiopulmonary support during RCAB for patients who were considered high-risk candidates for conventional CAB and at the same time not eligible for RCAB without cardiopulmonary support.

OBJECTIVES: Disseminated fibrin-rich microthrombi have been reported in patients who died from COVID-19. Our objective is to determine whether the fibrin clot structure and function differ between critically ill patients with or without COVID-19 and to correlate the structure with clinical coagulation biomarkers.

DESIGN: A cross-sectional observational study. Platelet poor plasma was used to analyze fibrin clot structure; the functional implications were determined by quantifying clot turbidity and porosity.

Leiomodin-2 (LMOD2) is an important regulator of the thin filament length, known to promote elongation of actin through polymerization at pointed ends. Mice with Lmod2 deficiency die around 3 weeks of age due to severe dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), resulting from decreased heart contractility due to shorter thin filaments. To date, there have been three infants from two families reported with biallelic variants in LMOD2, presenting with perinatal onset DCM. Here, we describe a third family with a child harboring a previously described homozygous frameshift variant, c.1243_1244delCT (p.L415Vfs*108) with DCM, presenting later in infancy at 9 months of age. In recent years, there has been an increased focus on Coronary Artery Dissection due to the increasing number of young individuals without any cardiovascular risk factors presenting with chest pain. Many of these patients would also have elevated troponins and sometimes electrocardiogram changes suggestive of myocardial infarction. Many reported cases have been in women and only a handful of cases have been reported in men. A 39-year-old male with a history of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy underwent a HeartMate 3 (Abbott Laboratories) implantation. Within an hour of implantation, low flow alarms were noted before exiting the operating room. The alarm was secondary to acute pump thrombosis. This is the first reported case of thrombosis immediately post-implant.

Heart disease is a leading cause of death for African Americans. A community-academic partnership cross-trained community health workers to engage African American adults in a 6-month heart health education and risk reduction intervention. We conducted a one-group feasibility study using a one group (pre-posttest) design. A total of 100 adults were recruited from 27 zip codes in an African American majority city through community-based organizations (46%), churches (36%), and home visits (12%). Ninety-six percent were African American; 55% were female, 39% were male, and 6% were transgender. Their mean age was 44.6 years (SD=15.9). Ninety-two percent had health insurance. Seventy-six …

BACKGROUND: The GenTAC (Genetically Triggered Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm and Cardiovascular Conditions) Registry enrolled patients with genetic aortopathies between 2007 and 2016.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to compare age distribution and probability of elective surgery for proximal aortic aneurysm, any dissection surgery, and cardiovascular mortality among aortopathy etiologies.

Background: Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) increases the risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, but underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood. Circulating monocytes play an important role in atherogenesis by infiltrating arterial walls, where they differentiate into macrophages. We tested the hypothesis that HTG is mechanistically linked to atherogenesis by altering the monocyte phenotype and infiltration into atherosclerotic lesions in a model of diet-induced atherogenesis in Ldlr−/− mice. Background/Purpose: Positive COVID-19 patients with chronic comorbidities have been associated with severe cardiac complications (e.g., STEMI, NSTEMI, myocarditis, pericarditis, AF) specifically among underserved communities. Acute STEMI and NSTEMI are cardiac conditions associated with ruptured atherosclerotic plaque leading to significant myocardial injury. AF, the most common arrhythmia leading to cerebrovascular accidents, is also common in hospitalized patients with severe illnesses. Introduction

Cardiac valvular diseases (CVDs) are the major cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality globally, with predominance of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in developing countries. Congenital heart defects (CHD) diagnoses are delayed due to socioeconomic factors. This study aims to evaluate the post-operative surgical outcomes of CHD and valvular RHD.

Methods

This study is conducted with 50 patients from Chad, operated on between 2003 and 2012. Post-operative outcomes are evaluated from 2010 to 2012.

Gut dysbiosis, a pathological imbalance of bacteria, has been shown to contribute to the development of hypertension (HT), systemic- and neuro-inflammation, and blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption in spontaneously hypertensive stroke prone rats (SHRSP). The novel mRNA vaccines, BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273, that encode the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein have shown to be a safe combatant to the pandemic. This study aimed to evaluate and to compare the acute response, due to semi-immersive virtual reality (VR) and conventional therapies (CT), of hemodynamic parameters in hospitalized individuals admitted to an emergency unity for heart failure (HF). This is a viability study with 11 individuals subjected to sessions with and without VR. At CT, stretching, active or active-assisted exercises, and fractional inspiration were performed. AIMS: To evaluate the burden of cardiovascular risk factors and disease (CVD) among five Asian groups living in Catalonia (Spain): Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino, and Chinese.

METHODS AND RESULTS: Retrospective cohort study using the Catalan Health Surveillance System database including 42 488 Pakistanis, 40 745 Chinese, 21 705 Indians, 9544 Filipinos, and 6907 Bangladeshis; and 5.3 million native individuals ('locals'). The development and administration of mRNA vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 are seeing lower numbers of COVID-19 cases and fatalities among fully vaccinated, immunocompetent adults. We present a case of fatal COVID-19 pneumonia in a heart transplant recipient who had received two doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had recommended additional doses.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare cause of acute coronary syndrome or sudden death. SCAD has a high incidence in a younger, female population with an association with peripartum or postpartum status. Connective tissue disorders and vasculitides are also associated with SCAD. The purpose of this poster will be to examine the presentation and risk factors associated with SCAD and to discuss optimal treatment strategies.
