Designing Movement-Based Interventions To Promote Self-Regulation In Early Childhood, Gayatri Sardana
Designing Movement-Based Interventions To Promote Self-Regulation In Early Childhood, Gayatri Sardana
Dissertations, 2020-current
Self-regulation skills are an important predictor of academic achievement, mental health, and positive behavior in the classroom (Blair & Diamond, 2008; Cameron et al., 2016; Skibbe et al., 2019). In early childhood, self-regulation is intrinsically connected with motor development. The neuropsychological overlap between the brain regions involved in cognitive and motor development can be leveraged through interventions. In bridging research and practice, this study proposes that movement-based interventions are a developmentally appropriate pathway to strengthen self-regulation skills in early childhood. Derived from research on neurocognitive processes involved in self-regulation (i.e., response inhibition, executive attention, and working memory), guidelines to design …

Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses
This literature review examines how decolonization can further the use of expressive arts therapies by addressing racist structures and ideologies that impact the mental health field. In order to execute my research and develop my research question, I examine the normalcy of Western ideology’s reinforcement of colonization through the normalization of behaviors including operations that currently cause harm. I came to my proposed question: How are the branches from the planted seed of colonization inflicting harm on the field of expressive arts therapies and those whom the mental health field seeks to serve? I urge examining our past and present …

Engaging Students In Qualitative Research Practice And Understanding Through Constructionist Perspectives: Socially Constructed Qualitative Research Pedagogies, Elih Sutisna Yanto, Junjun Muhamad Ramdani
The Qualitative Report
A growing number of books have explored how teachers teach students' qualitative research in second or foreign language classroom contexts step by step. It is rare, however, to find a book on research methods that includes a social constructionist approach to reflective and experiential learning for conducting qualitative research to help students become good qualitative researchers. To fill this void, Janet C. Richards, Audra Skukauskaitė, and Ron Chenail wrote a book entitled Engaging Students in Socially Constructed Qualitative Research Pedagogies (2022). This book is an important, forward-thinking, and useful resource for the rapidly expanding field of qualitative research pedagogy. In …
The Dilemma Of Socrates’ Position: Interview Methods And Feminist Empirical Bioethics, Michiel De Proost
The Dilemma Of Socrates’ Position: Interview Methods And Feminist Empirical Bioethics, Michiel De Proost
The Qualitative Report
There is a growing body of bioethics research that addresses the importance of adapting empirical, predominantly qualitative, methods to generate debate on ethical arguments. However, there is an absence of illustrative work examining how this could be realised from a feminist perspective. This article, seeking to address the research gap, examines interview methods through a reflexive lens. Drawing on the doctoral research I conducted through interviews with women who were interested in social egg freezing (i.e., healthy women freezing their eggs in anticipation of future infertility), I describe how I encountered a dilemma because of my gendered positionality and the …

(1a) How do learners experience this technology? (1b) What is the process for creating and implementing this technology? (1c) How can we best design the learning experience? We …
Giving Voices To Jamaican Canadian Immigrant Women: A Heuristic Inquiry Study, Sandra P. Dixon, Dania Amin, Nancy M. Arthur
Giving Voices To Jamaican Canadian Immigrant Women: A Heuristic Inquiry Study, Sandra P. Dixon, Dania Amin, Nancy M. Arthur
The Qualitative Report
The Heuristic Inquiry (HI) qualitative method applied in this study explored the role of Pentecostal faith in the post-migration lived experiences of Jamaican Canadian immigrant women (JCIW). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven JCIW whose Pentecostal faith helped them to reconstruct their cultural identity post-migration. The creative flexibility of HI allowed for the integration of the primary researcher’s (i.e., first author's) voice into the study alongside those of the co-researchers. Positioning the study within a postmodern social constructionism theoretical framework created space for multiple realities to emerge that were constructed through social interaction and language. These realities were evident in …
An Unsung American Hero: A Case Study Of Frances Perkins's Servant-Leadership And Its Modern Impact, Jeffrey Coats
An Unsung American Hero: A Case Study Of Frances Perkins's Servant-Leadership And Its Modern Impact, Jeffrey Coats
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
Francis Perkins was one of the most influential servant-leaders of the 20th Century and may be considered an “unsung hero” for her trailblazing efforts to help marginalized groups: the poor, senior citizens, laborers, the unemployed and children. So much of American’s daily lives and what millions of Americans utilize and depend upon (e.g. a 40-hour workweek, overtime pay, unemployment insurance) is a direct result of her life’s work. Yet, she has often been omitted from History books and many Americans may have never heard of her. This article examines her servant-leadership characteristics and the actions that resulted from her being …
The Relevance And Benefits Of Moral Intelligence To Servant Leadership, Kong Wah Cora Chan
The Relevance And Benefits Of Moral Intelligence To Servant Leadership, Kong Wah Cora Chan
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
Moral intelligence has a better chance of fixing morality-related issues instead of bandaging them and addressing the servant leadership best test stated by Greenleaf (1977/2002). Prudence—mature moral intelligence—is one’s skillful act in making the best, most caring alternative among all possible choices based on moral wisdom (Bradshaw, 2010). Morally intelligent people are conscious of aligning their values, goals, and actions with the universal principles of integrity, responsibility, compassion, and forgiveness (Lennick and Kiel, 2011). Such an alignment leads to purposeful living and organizational success. Borba (2001) advocated for building moral habits of empathy, conscience, self-control, respect, kindness, tolerance, and fairness. …

Servant Leadership And Violent Extremism: An Evaluative Framework, Eric J. Russell, Ardian Shajkovci
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
The following article presents a conceptual servant leadership framework for evaluating preventing violent extremism (PVE) policies and programs. The purpose of the work was to discover how servant leadership could strengthen existing PVE evaluative strategies. This article stems from work being done in servant leadership, counterterrorism, and countering violent extremism at Nichols College and Utah Valley University. The authors used a secondary analysis of empirical and literary servant leadership and PVE works to develop the framework. The analysis revealed a relationship between servant leadership’s commitment to the growth of people and building community and the need for PVE to be …

Effectiveness Of Simulation-Based Learning On Clinical Competence In Dietetics Students: A Narrative Review, Claudia W. Scott, Rena Zelig, Diane L. Rigassio Radler
Journal of Dietetic Education
Clinical supervised practice experiences offered through dietetic internships have historically been among the most challenging to obtain.
