During the Federal era, cassava played an important role in political mobilisation in Luapula Province. Nonetheless, the crop has seldom received attention in the otherwise rich historiography on African nationalism and anti-Federation struggle in present-day Zambia. Drawing on archival sources and oral history, and a reading of secondary sources, this article attempts to contribute to the historiography of cassava in Zambia and its contribution to the nationalist cause. The article examines the position of cassava in political mobilisation by nationalist politicians. It explores the link between the politics of cassava and those of nationalism. Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president from 1964 to 1991, advanced a Pan-African social-political ideology of humanism as a moral code to guide all human activities in the nation’s political, economic, and social spheres. Within education, humanism envisaged producing socially responsible and public good-oriented graduates equipped with humane values and capable of driving the national development agenda. This paper critically examines the nexus between Kaunda’s humanism and education by focussing on its role in fostering higher education for social responsibility in post-colonial Zambia. Memorialisation can hide the “true past.” Most of the past that is memorialised has political and sentimental significance. This paper attempts to reconstruct Kenneth Kaunda’s historical significance from remembrances about KK. We conceptualise the memorialisation and commemoration of KK using a Zambian mourning process and highlight how remembrances about KK produce a hagiographic narrative. The paper demonstrates that KK’s role in creating a Zambian collective memory based on his Humanism created a knowledge vacuum in Zambian historical memory. Furthermore, the monumentalising of KK seems to encourage forgetfulness but mausoleums also serve a mnemonic function to Zambian collective memory and history. …

The late President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda declared South Luangwa a National Park in 1971. He further facilitated the Luangwa Integrated Rural Development Project (LIRDP) funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to support the management of the Park and engage local communities in conservation efforts and livelihood development. In order to improve administration-faculty relations, remaining faculty organized, petitioned for recognition, and drafted PSU/KNEA's first contract with PSU/KBOR, which went into effect five years later. The narrative covering this period draws on Axe Library's KNEA Collection and interviews of former faculty.

Rapid technological advancements have revolutionized the dating experiences of emerging adults. This study explored perceptions of information and communication technology within emerging adult romantic relationships and examined what young adults perceived to be the costs and benefits of using technology to communicate in dating relationships. Emerging adults (N = 118) from diverse backgrounds completed a semi‐structured interview and thematic analysis was conducted on the interview responses. Several themes were identified that highlighted the positive influence of technology on relationship communication (e.g., greater efficiency), relationship development, and relationship maintenance. The Pilbara Demersal Scalefish Resource (PDSR) includes over 60 demersal scalefish species. The resource is accessed by the Pilbara Trap Managed Fishery, Pilbara Fish Trawl (Interim) Managed Fishery, and the Pilbara Line Fishery (PTMF, PFTIMF & PLF respectively) as well as the recreational and charter fisheries.

The PDSR is managed in accordance with the North Coast Demersal Scalefish Resource Harvest Strategy (Harvest Strategy). The Philippines possesses significant solar energy potential, yet the adoption of rooftop solar power (RTSP) among households remains limited despite its benefits in reducing electricity costs and contributing to the clean energy transition. This study investigates the determinants influencing households’ willingness to adopt RTSP in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces, utilizing the contingent valuation method. Survey results indicate that economic factors, particularly the potential for electricity bill reduction, along with environmental considerations, are positively associated with adoption intentions. While a substantial portion of households (82%) expressed some level of intention to adopt RTSP, the figure drops to 20% when focusing …

Cotton fiber consumption is higher than any other natural fiber due to its superior mechanical and physical properties. In the conventional reactive dyeing process, the dye undergoes hydrolysis due to hydrogen bonding and weak Van der Waals forces, yielding poor washing color fastness. Additionally, the post-dyeing wash-off process consumes significant amounts of water, energy, and time in order to remove the unreacted and hydrolyzed dye. Therefore, reactive dyes are predominantly utilized to color cotton fabrics as the covalent bond formed between dye and fiber results in excellent washing fastness for a wide range of colors, and improved ease of use. …

This study used a mixed-method design to examine travel behavior and accessibility of older adults. The research team conducted a statewide survey and focus groups to gather travel behavior data of older adults (50+) residing in Utah. The study also employed a two-step floating catchment area method, a novel spatial technique, and integrated the survey data to accurately measure travel accessibility of older adults. Using the survey data of 724 older adults as well as the focus group interviews of 18 older individuals, we found a significant dissatisfaction and vulnerability experienced by older adults with limited mobility. This study analyzes the economic resilience of Indonesia and Malaysia during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on economic stability. The research explores pre-pandemic economic conditions, the impact of COVID-19 on GDP, inflation, unemployment, and government debt, as well as recovery efforts through fiscal and monetary policies. Data from Statistics Indonesia, Department of Statistics Malaysia, World Bank, and IMF were used. Results indicate that Indonesia experienced a faster economic recovery, with GDP growth returning to pre-pandemic levels quicker than Malaysia. The economic impact of the pandemic in Indonesia is lower, supported by the National Economic Recovery Program (PEN) and Bank Indonesia's monetary …
