Although the New Order Regime (1966-1998) was widely known for its strict censorship and government control, there was a simultaneous rise in producing exploitation films with graphic and provocative images. This kind of cinema was exported internationally in the 1980s and re-released in the 2000s by transnational DVD distributors. This article analyzed the transformation of exploitation films, which were disregarded and undervalued by the Government, cultural elites, and cinema critics. It explored how these films became a battleground for the politics of taste and resulted in a series of contradictions within the political policies of the New Order. The study …

This study focuses on the local political sphere by examining the policies and the spread of Nagari’s institutional structure in West Sumatra by following Law No. 6 of 2014 about Villages. We examine and reassess the new variations of the local political sphere, focusing on local elites (Penghulu-Alim Ulama) and local communities’ growth within Nagari institutions in West Sumatra. Data was gathered via a focus group discussion (FGD) including stakeholders, regency administration, the Nagari government, and the communities. This study investigates the awareness and utilization of Open-Source Software (OSS) for library automation within the context of University Libraries in Pakistan. Through a comprehensive survey of University Librarians, the research explores the extent of OSS adoption, with a focus on specific systems such as Koha and SLiMS. The findings show a high level of awareness and active use of OSS, particularly Koha, in library automation processes. Public sector universities demonstrate a greater inclination towards OSS adoption compared to private and semi-government institutions. Background: Firearm suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. Suicide prevention experts have advocated for upstream interventions that can be implemented prior to the development of suicidal thoughts, particularly those that focus on lethal means safety (LMS; e.g., increasing secure firearm storage). To reach firearm owners with LMS messaging, researchers have developed suicide prevention training content which can be incorporated into firearm training courses. INTRODUCTION: Structural racism plays a major role in reproductive health inequities. Colorism, discrimination based on skin color, may profoundly impact reproductive health access and service delivery. However, quantitative research in this area is limited.

METHODS: We administered an online survey of women (n = 1,299) aged 18-44 from Harris County, Texas to assess the relationship between skin color discrimination and reproductive health service avoidance. The survey included questions on demographics, self-reported skin tone, and dichotomous measures of previous discrimination experiences and avoidance of care because of perceived discrimination. Imposter participants are an emerging concern in qualitative research due to the recent increase in online recruitment and virtual interviews. Unfortunately, there is limited guidance on how to address imposter participants in an equitable, trauma-informed way. To bridge this gap, we share imposter participant red flags, challenges, and a protocol that provides questions to ask and possible activities to engage in throughout the research process from conceptualization through findings dissemination. We ground this guidance in examples from our recent study with LGBTQ+ (e.g., lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence.

The experience of loneliness is a significant concern among older people, as it can lead to serious health risks and impact overall well-being. This study, conducted in Hong Kong, explores the relationship between ageism and loneliness among older individuals. Employing qualitative research methods and thematic analysis, data were collected from 21 community-dwelling participants aged 65 to 86, including 8 males and 13 females.

Research finds better reentry/recidivism program outcome when individuals receive service that matches their risks and needs. It is thus essential to measure recidivism risks and needs appropriately. The Short-Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START) is a clinically-oriented instrument that assesses risks of future violence/offending and identifies areas for treatment. We see its potential use as an assessment tool for reentry/recidivism programming. More empirical evidence is needed to identify the psychometric properties of the instrument in this setting before it may be used in practice. This research systematically reviews artificial intelligence (AI) effects in customer-interfacing retail applications based on an ecosystem value co-creation framework. We conduct a bibliometric and conceptual mapping analysis study, focusing on AI-related implications for consumers’ and other stakeholders' well-being, social interaction, and societal welfare. A co-citation network visualization of critical AI journal articles is generated, and a network visualization of AI keyword relationships and clustered topic areas is presented and discussed, along with a conceptual map of the relationships between key concepts and substantive AI themes. Undergraduate college-aged students are increasingly experiencing anxiety. Yet, many struggle to cope effectively, resulting in poor school performance and compromised health and well-being. Our goal was to identify common anxiety-inducing and aggravating stressors, as well as preferred adaptive coping strategies, in this exploratory study to inform anxiety intervention development. A total of 19 undergraduate students (17 female and 2 male) were recruited. Students previously diagnosed or treated for anxiety by a clinician participated in a two-week, daily diary entry study. During the Federal era, cassava played an important role in political mobilisation in Luapula Province. Nonetheless, the crop has seldom received attention in the otherwise rich historiography on African nationalism and anti-Federation struggle in present-day Zambia. Drawing on archival sources and oral history, and a reading of secondary sources, this article attempts to contribute to the historiography of cassava in Zambia and its contribution to the nationalist cause. Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president from 1964 to 1991, advanced a Pan-African social-political ideology of humanism as a moral code to guide all human activities in the nation’s political, economic, and social spheres. Memorialisation can hide the “true past.” Most of the past that is memorialised has political and sentimental significance. This paper attempts to reconstruct Kenneth Kaunda’s historical significance from remembrances about KK. We conceptualise the memorialisation and commemoration of KK using a Zambian mourning process and highlight how remembrances about KK produce a hagiographic narrative. The paper demonstrates that KK’s role in creating a Zambian collective memory based on his Humanism created a knowledge vacuum in Zambian historical memory. Furthermore, the monumentalising of KK seems to encourage forgetfulness but mausoleums also serve a mnemonic function to Zambian collective memory and history. …

In 1973, the Kansas State College, Pittsburg administration fired thirteen faculty members without cause. In order to improve administration-faculty relations, remaining faculty organized, petitioned for recognition, and drafted PSU/KNEA's first contract with PSU/KBOR, which went into effect five years later. The narrative covering this period draws on Axe Library's KNEA Collection and interviews of former faculty.
