Digital Twinning For Resilient Global Supply Chains: Three Case Studies, Gawon Yun, Douglas N. Hales, Leo Hong

Global supply chains have vulnerabilities, and these escalate in crisis times like pandemics or wars. Digital twinning of supply chains can provide early alerts and timely interventions. We examined three companies in different industries using Digital Twin (DT) technology to improve their supply chain performance. We found that while DT successfully enhanced performance indicators, the dollar and time costs were significant, creating barriers to wider DT adoption. We conclude by outlining the positives and negatives of implementing Digital Twins in global supply chains.

A 2024 book titled “How Sanctions Work, Iran and the Impact of Economic Warfare” by Narges Bajoghli, Vali Nasr, Djavad Salehi-Isfahani, and Ali Vaez argues that sanctions have had no impact on the behavior of the Islamic Republic in Iran (IR hereafter) and have instead inflicted pain on the ordinary Iranians. While the book does offer a useful description of the evolution of the sanctions against the IR, it fails in its analysis and conclusions.

More and more, economic research makes uses of administrative panel data, which provide long time-series of highly accurate data, but lack some of the supplemental questions found in surveys. I use data from the Current Population Survey, which includes a short panel, to test whether these supplemental survey questions intrinsically contain unique information or serve as proxies for information that can also be gleaned from panel data. In particular, I forecast an individual worker's future unemployment status with and without information on each individual's recent past, and decompose the variance of the predictions in each case.

Introduction Physical therapy (PT) is recommended as a primary treatment for low back pain (LBP), a common and impactful musculoskeletal condition after limb loss. The purpose of this brief report is to report the duration and cost of PT care, and subsequent escalation of care events, for LBP in service members with and without limb loss. Materials and Methods This was a retrospective cohort, descriptive study. Service members with and without limb loss (matched) who received PT for LBP at a military treatment facility from 2015 to 2017 were included. Previous research indicates that maternal cortisol function and maternal brain response to infant are each in turn related to variations in parenting behavior. However, little is known about how maternal cortisol and maternal brain function are associated, thus studying these two mechanisms together may improve our understanding of how maternal cortisol assessed during interactions with own infant is associated with brain response to infant cry. First-time mothers (N = 59) of infants aged 3-4 months old were recruited to participate. Tattooing has become a prominent form of body modification worldwide since the 20^th century, leading to a revival of traditional hand-tap techniques, especially those from Samoa. The Samoan traditional pe’a (male tattoo) and malu (female) are distinctive, as they are administered by hand-tap tools in open-air bungalows and are to be completed in a short period of time, usually 1-2 days for the malu and a week to a month for the pe’a. Previous studies have found that a player’s race does not affect the price of one’s rookie card. This is the first study to investigate the impact of performance variables, including points per game, rebounds, assists, and steals significantly affect a player’s salary, as well as one’s race, signing a new contract, winning a championship, and appearing in the “all-star” game on the annual change in price of one’s rookie card during the same time period. Nearly 20% of Americans telework or work from home. Telework has the potential to impact household food insecurity by reducing household time constraints and increasing household disposable income and time flexibility. Using data from the Household Pulse Survey, this study analyzes the association between telework and food insecurity in the United States. Two-stage least squares results indicate the association between telework and food insecurity varies with income. Telework is associated with reduced food insecurity among households with income between 100% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL) and increased food insecurity among households with income below 100% FPL.

This study investigates the effect of cover crops on soybean yield and profit in Illinois. The analysis utilizes a unique and precise field-level panel data set of farmer data combined with weather data for 2015 to 2022. Using a linear fixed effects econometric model, we estimate the effect of cover crops and tillage on yield and profit. We find no difference in yield and a decrease in profit of $40 per acre from using cover crops. No-till systems have a one bushel per acre lower yield than one pass tillage system, but we find no difference in profit.

Farm stress negatively impacts agricultural producers’ (APs) physical and mental health. The average age of agricultural producers has increased in every USDA agricultural census since 1945, and the stressors may be either or both caused or exacerbated by increasing age. The Cooperative Extension Service is well-known for working with APs and is well-equipped to address these concerns for this aging population. To better understand farm-related stressors, this study examines APs’ and Extension agents’ perceptions of major stressors faced by APs. According to ALA, in 2023 titles representing the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals made up 47% of those targeted in censorship attempts. Photographer Clinton Wright documented the everyday lives and experiences of the African American community in Las Vegas' Historic Westside from 1964 to 1971. He later donated his collection of photographic negatives to the Special Collections and Archives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries. Although the collection is open to the public, physical access is limited to the Special Collections Reading Room, which may restrict usability for some researchers and community members. This project highlights the importance of digitization and metadata workflows in improving access to and visibility of archival materials.

The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to understand the recollections of young Latino adults about their lived experiences and mental health needs as children and adolescents with incarcerated parents.
