ความเป็นธรรมทางดิจิทัล เป็นประเด็นที่ไม่ได้ถูกกล่าวถึงมากนักในประเทศไทย ถึงแม้ว่าเป็นปัจจัยหนึ่งในการเกิดความเหลื่อมล้ำทางสังคม โดยเฉพาะเรื่องการเข้าถึงข้อมูลข่าวสาร บริการ และสวัสดิการสังคมขั้นพื้นฐานของรัฐที่ประชาชนควรได้รับ ส่วนใหญ่เมื่อนึกถึงเรื่องความเหลื่อมล้ำในสังคม ผู้คนมักกล่าวถึงความเหลื่อมล้ำทางเศรษฐกิจและความเหลื่อมล้ำทางสังคมในภาพกว้าง ในขณะที่ความเหลื่อมล้ำทางสังคมถูกซ่อนไว้ในทุกมิติของชีวิต ดังนั้น การกล่าวถึงประเด็นชี้เฉพาะเรื่อง “ความเป็นธรรมทางดิจิทัลด้านสื่อและเทคโนโลยี” จึงมีไม่มากนัก นับว่าเป็นช่องว่างขององค์ความรู้ทางวิชาการที่ควรศึกษาทำความเข้าใจเพิ่มเติม พร้อมทั้งหาแนวทางแก้ไขอย่างเร่งด่วนเพื่อจัดสวัสดิการที่เป็นธรรมให้แก่สมาชิกในสังคมอย่างทั่วถึง โดยเฉพาะประชากรกลุ่มหลักที่จะกล่าวถึงในบทความนี้ นั่นคือ กลุ่มผู้สูงอายุ เพื่อเป็นการเปิดมุมมองทัศนคติที่หลากหลายและกว้างขวางขึ้น อีกทั้งยังช่วยลดวยาคติ (ageism) ของผู้คนในสังคมที่มีความเชื่อว่า ผู้สูงอายุเป็นกลุ่มวัยที่ล้าหลัง และตีตรา (stigma) ว่าเป็นกลุ่มประชากรที่ใช้งานสื่อเทคโนโลยีไม่เป็น ในขณะที่สถานการณ์สังคมปัจจุบันมิได้เป็นเช่นนั้นอีกต่อไป ซึ่งจากข้อมูลที่ผู้เขียนได้ร่วมกันศึกษาวิจัยในประเด็นนี้ ทำให้ค้นพบองค์ความรู้ชุดใหม่ที่แสดงให้เห็นว่ามีผู้สูงอายุเป็นจำนวนมากที่สามารถใช้สื่อเทคโนโลยีได้อย่างคล่องแคล่ว ชำนาญ และหมั่นพัฒนาทักษะตนเอง ศึกษาหาความรู้อยู่เสมอ เพื่อให้รู้เท่าทันสถานการณ์โลกที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไป ในทางตรงข้าม มีผู้สูงอายุจำนวนไม่น้อยเช่นกันที่ยังขาดความรู้และทักษะใช้งานสื่อเทคโนโลยีในชีวิตประจำวัน ทำให้พวกเขาถูกตัดขาดจากสังคมบางกลุ่มไปโดยปริยาย รวมทั้งไม่สามารถเข้าถึงข้อมูลข่าวสารและสวัสดิการของภาครัฐได้

เกษตรกรถูกระบุว่าเป็นกลุ่มอาชีพที่ประสบปัญหาความยากจนมากที่สุดในประเทศไทย โดยเฉพาะครัวเรือนในชนบทซึ่งมีรายได้น้อย บทความนี้วิเคราะห์การเลื่อนชั้นของเกษตรกรในสังคมชนบทผ่านกรณีศึกษาครัวเรือนเกษตรกร โดยการถกเถียงกับแนวคิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงสังคมภาคเกษตรที่ส่งผลต่อการเลื่อนชั้นทางสังคมและความยากจนข้ามรุ่น พบว่าครัวเรือนยากจนมีความพยายามในการยกระดับฐานะทางสังคมให้มีความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีขึ้น ทว่าแต่ละครัวเรือนก็มีข้อจำกัดและเงื่อนไขในการเลื่อนชั้นทางสังคมที่แตกต่างกันท่ามกลางการเปลี่ยนแปลงสังคมภาคเกษตรที่โอกาส ทรัพยากร และเงินทุน รวมถึงช่องทางการศึกษาของบุตรหลานเป็นเงื่อนไขในการตัดสินใจด้านการพัฒนาครัวเรือน นอกจากปัจจัยส่วนบุคคลแล้ว ปัจจัยเชิงโครงสร้างมีความสำคัญต่อการวิเคราะห์ผลกระทบต่อความยากจนของเกษตรกร และปัญหาด้านการผลิตซ้ำนโยบายที่ส่งผลให้เกิดความยากจนมักจะไม่ได้รับความสนใจในการเป็นข้อถกเถียงในเชิงนโยบาย

การเมืองและยุทธศาสตร์ของการรวมกลุ่มชาวนา : จาก “นาแปลงใหญ่” สู่ความยืดหยุ่นด้วย “กลุ่มขนาดย่อม, วีระ หวังสัจจะโชค

บทความวิจัยนี้ศึกษาความยืดหยุ่นปรับตัวของชาวนาต่อบทบาทของรัฐในการส่งเสริมการรวมกลุ่ม ผ่านนโยบายนาแปลงใหญ่และการตั้งศูนย์เรียนรู้การเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการผลิตสินค้าเกษตร (ศพก.) ว่า การรวมกลุ่มของชาวนาผ่านนโยบายนาแปลงใหญ่มีการเมืองและยุทธศาสตร์ตอบสนองต่อนโยบายรัฐในมิติของตัวเอง ผ่านการแย่งชิงทรัพยากรและงบประมาณของรัฐ โดยดำเนินการวิจัยด้วยวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ อย่างการสำรวจเอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์ผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ และการจัดเสวนากลุ่ม โดยใช้กรณีศึกษา 5 พื้นที่ในจังหวัดพิษณุโลก ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ชาวนามีความยืดหยุ่นปรับตัวต่อนโยบายรวมกลุ่มของรัฐ ทำให้เกิดการรวมกลุ่มในมิติที่หลากหลายและไม่ได้เป็นไปตามเป้าหมายของรัฐ จนอาจกล่าวได้ว่า การรวมกลุ่มของนโยบาย “นาแปลงใหญ่” เกิดผลลัพธ์ที่ไม่ตั้งใจ กลับทำให้เกิดการรวมกลุ่ม “ขนาดย่อม” ของชาวนา เพราะสอดคล้องกับการปรับตัวและผลประโยชน์ของกลุ่มขนาดย่อมที่เห็นชัดเจนมากกว่ากลุ่มขนาดใหญ่ ด้วยการรวมกลุ่มขยาดย่อมสามแนวทาง ประกอบด้วย (1) การรวมกลุ่มขนาดย่อมด้วย “ความจำเป็น” ทางวิถีการผลิต การตลาด และสังคม (2) การรวมกลุ่มด้วยยุทธศาสตร์ในการช่วงชิงทรัพยากรและผลประโยชน์จากภาครัฐ และ (3) การปรับตัวสู่การรวมกลุ่ม เพื่อสร้างฐานทางการเมืองท้องถิ่นและการเคลื่อนไหวทางสังคม

บทความวิจัยฉบับนี้ศึกษาพัฒนาการของรัฐสวัสดิการในกลุ่มประเทศตะวันตกและตะวันออกเพื่อตอบคำถามว่าการนำเอาความสำเร็จของรัฐสวัสดิการตะวันตกมาเป็นต้นแบบเพียงพอและเหมาะสมต่อการสร้างรัฐสวัสดิการของไทยหรือไม่ผ่านการศึกษาพัฒนาการของรัฐสวัสดิการในยุโรปตะวันตก ได้แก่ อังกฤษ ฝรั่งเศส และกลุ่มสแกนดิเนเวีย และประเทศที่พัฒนาแล้วในเอเชียอย่างญี่ปุ่น เกาหลีใต้ และสิงคโปร์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบให้เห็นถึงความเหมือนและความต่างของทั้งสองกลุ่ม การวิจัยนี้ใช้แนวทางการวิจัยประวัติศาสตร์เชิงสถาบัน (Historical Institutional Approach) เน้นไปที่ปัจจัยทางด้านอุดมการณ์และปัจจัยโครงสร้างเชิงสถาบันเป็นสำคัญ ผลการศึกษาพบว่ารัฐสวัสดิการมีหลากหลายรูปแบบและประวัติศาสตร์เชิงสถาบันมีอิทธิพลต่อการกำหนดเส้นทางการพัฒนารัฐสวัสดิการ การก่อร่างสร้างรัฐสวัสดิการไทยจึงมิอาจลอกเลียนแบบรัฐอื่นได้ทั้งหมดแต่ต้องเข้าใจบริบทและประวัติศาสตร์ของตนเอง ประยุกต์ปรับปรุงให้เหมาะสมกับปัญหาสังคมที่ประสบอยู่ และจำเป็นต้องคำนึงถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงเชิงสถาบันซึ่งต้องใช้เวลาหลายทศวรรษหรือศตวรรษในการเปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งทางด้านอุดมการณ์รัฐสวัสดิการ โครงสร้างเศรษฐกิจ สังคม การเมือง และวัฒนธรรม

การเปิดรับความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมในฐานะการปฏิบัติการทางสังคมเพื่อการอยู่ร่วมกันอย่างสันติระหว่างคนท้องถิ่นกับผู้อพยพภายใต้ยุคสมัยแห่งการเคลื่อนย้าย : ข้อค้นพบจากการวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการยอมรับการเข้ามาของผู้อพยพในเอเชียตะวันออก, ศิริพงศ์ ปาลกะวงศ์ ณ อยุธยา

จุดมุ่งหมายหลักของการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณครั้งนี้ คือ การศึกษาความสัมพันธ์เชิงเหตุผลระหว่างพฤติกรรมการเปิดรับความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมกับระดับการยินยอมให้ผู้อพยพเข้ามาในเอเชียตะวันออกของ พลเมืองที่อาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่ดังกล่าว ผู้วิจัยเลือกใช้แหล่งข้อมูลทุติยภูมิจากฐานข้อมูลด้านวัฒนธรรมของคลังข้อมูลการสำรวจทางสังคมในเอเชียตะวันออก (EASSDA) ฐานข้อมูลดังกล่าวเกิดจากการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลของกลุ่มตัวอย่างในภูมิภาคดังกล่าวจำนวน 4 ประเทศ ได้แก่ จีน ญี่ปุ่น เกาหลีใต้ และไต้หวัน ซึ่งมีจำนวนตัวอย่างรวมทั้งหมด 9,029 ราย เมื่อพิจารณาถึงผลการวิเคราะห์สถิติเชิงพรรณนา กลุ่มตัวอย่างโดยส่วนใหญ่ยังไม่เปิดรับความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมเท่าที่ควร และยินยอมระดับน้อยที่จะให้มีผู้อพยพเข้ามาในภูมิภาคของตน ในส่วนของผลการวิเคราะห์ สถิติเชิงอนุมานด้วยเทคนิคการวิเคราะห์การถดถอยพหุด้วยแบบจำลองโพรบิต ผู้วิจัยพบว่า พฤติกรรมการเปิดรับความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมเกือบทุกรูปแบบ (ยกเว้นการเปิดรับสื่อต่างประเทศ) ได้แก่ การพูดคุยเกี่ยวกับ ประเด็น/ปัญหาระหว่างประเทศกับผู้อื่น การเดินทางไปต่างประเทศ และการมีคนรู้จักเป็นชาวต่างชาติ ต่างเป็นปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลเชิงบวกต่อการยินยอมระดับมากที่จะให้มีผู้อพยพเข้ามาในภูมิภาคดังกล่าวอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ นอกจากนี้ ผลการวิเคราะห์แสดงให้เห็นว่า ระดับการศึกษาที่เพิ่มสูงขึ้นมีอิทธิพลเชิงบวกต่อการยินยอมระดับมากที่จะให้มีผู้อพยพในพื้นที่ของตน แต่ในทางตรงกันข้าม การยึดมั่นในความเป็นชาตินิยมเป็นอย่างมากเข้าข่ายเป็นอุปสรรคอย่างหนึ่งต่อการยินยอมระดับมากที่จะให้มีผู้อพยพเข้ามาในภูมิภาคดังกล่าวอย่างเห็นได้ชัด

ปัจจัยเชิงกลยุทธ์และบทบาทของของภาครัฐในการขับเคลื่อนความยั่งยืนขององค์กรธุรกิจ : กรณีศึกษาองค์กรธุรกิจขนาดใหญ่ในตลาดหลักทรัพย์ประเทศไทย, แววไพลิน พันธุ์ภักดี

งานวิจัยนี้มุ่งศึกษาปัจจัยเชิงกลยุทธ์และบทบาทของภาครัฐที่ส่งผลต่อความยั่งยืนขององค์กรธุรกิจในประเทศไทย โดยวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างองค์ประกอบหลัก ได้แก่ ภาวะผู้นำ นโยบายองค์กร บุคลากร และการทำงานเป็นทีม และนวัตกรรมและเทคโนโลยี จากการเก็บข้อมูลจากพนักงาน 680 คน ในองค์กรขนาดใหญ่ที่จดทะเบียนในตลาดหลักทรัพย์แห่งประเทศไทย ผลการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นว่า การบูรณาการปัจจัยเชิงกลยุทธ์และการสนับสนุนจากภาครัฐเป็นกุญแจสำคัญที่ช่วยให้องค์กรเติบโตได้อย่างมั่นคงและสอดคล้องกับเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน โดยเฉพาะภาวะผู้นำที่มีวิสัยทัศน์ ซึ่งสามารถกระตุ้นแรงจูงใจของพนักงาน ส่งผลต่อความยั่งยืนขององค์กรอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ นอกจากนี้ นโยบายองค์กรที่มีแผนกลยุทธ์ชัดเจนและสนับสนุนการมีส่วนร่วมของพนักงานผ่านการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้และการฝึกอบรมอย่างต่อเนื่อง ช่วยให้องค์กรปรับตัวต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางธุรกิจและสิ่งแวดล้อม การลงทุนในนวัตกรรมและการวิจัยและพัฒนา (R&D) ช่วยเสริมสร้างโครงสร้างองค์กรให้ยั่งยืน ขณะที่ภาครัฐมีบทบาทสำคัญในการกำหนดนโยบายสนับสนุนภาวะผู้นำ การให้สิทธิ ประโยชน์ทางภาษี และการจัดตั้งศูนย์วิจัยและพัฒนา อีกทั้งการพัฒนาความร่วมมือระหว่างภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน และสถาบันการศึกษา ยังช่วยเร่งการเปลี่ยนผ่านขององค์กรสู่การพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืนอย่างเป็นระบบ

การเมืองในนโยบายกัญชาของประเทศไทย, พิษณุ เสงี่ยมพงษ์

บทความวิจัยนี้ศึกษานโยบายกัญชาของประเทศไทยภายในทิศทางเป็นเสรีนิยมมาก มีข้อกังวลเกี่ยวกับการใช้กัญชาในประเทศไทย และมีความสับสนในความพยายามย้อนกลับไปเป็นอนุรักษนิยมอีกครั้งด้วย จุดประสงค์ศึกษากระบวนการนโยบายกัญชาของประเทศไทยในรายละเอียด มีคำถามวิจัยว่า นโยบายกัญชาของไทยมีลักษณะอย่างไร มีสมมติฐานว่า มีข้อห่วงใยอย่างมากในนโยบายลักษณะเสรีนิยมนี้มีความสับสนที่นโยบาย อาจย้อนกลับเป็นอนุรักษนิยมอีกครั้ง และมีการเมืองอยู่ภายในกระบวนการนโยบายกัญชา งานวิจัยใช้แนวคิดด้านความไม่แน่นอนทางวิทยาศาสตร์และความชาญฉลาดของประชาธิปไตยเป็นกรอบการศึกษา ประกอบการวิเคราะห์ตอบคำถามวิจัย ขอบเขตด้านเวลาในการศึกษาอยู่ระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2561-2567 งานวิจัยใช้ข้อมูลทุติยภูมิในการศึกษาประกอบด้วย หลักฐานการรายงานของสื่อมวลชนถึงกระบวนการนโยบายกัญชาไทย และเอกสารนโยบายสาธารณะด้านกัญชา เช่น ประกาศกระทรวง สำหรับข้อค้นพบและการวิเคราะห์ บทความวิจัยถกแถลงถึงความกำกวมในการเป็นสารเสพติดเป็นลักษณะของพืชกัญชา ที่อธิบายด้วยแนวคิดความไม่แน่นอนทางวิทยาศาสตร์ กัญชาได้รับการตีความว่าสามารถใช้ได้ทั้งในทางการแพทย์และในทางสันทนาการด้วย เกิดข้อห่วงใย และจำเป็นต้องติดตามดูแลการแพร่หลายของผลิตภัณฑ์กัญชาในอาหาร งานวิจัยวิเคราะห์อภิปรายการเมืองภายในนโยบายกัญชาของประเทศไทย เช่น ความพยายามผลักดันให้นโยบายกลับไปเป็นอนุรักษนิยมอีกครั้ง เป็นอีกส่วนหนึ่งของความสับสนของนโยบาย และงานวิจัยถกแถลงว่าความชาญฉลาดของประชาธิปไตยมีความสำคัญในการขับเคลื่อนกระบวนการนโยบายกัญชา

แนวทางการจัดสวัสดิการสังคมที่ส่งผลต่อการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุ ในเขตพื้นที่เทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี จังหวัดเพชรบุรี, อัญชนา สายสร้อย, ดารัณ พราหมณ์แก้ว

บทความวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาระดับการจัดสวัสดิการสังคมและการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุในเขตพื้นที่เทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี 2) ศึกษาการจัดสวัสดิการสังคมที่ส่งผลต่อการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุในเขตพื้นที่เทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี 3) เสนอแนวทางการจัดสวัสดิการสังคมที่เหมาะสมต่อการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุในเขตพื้นที่เทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยแบบผสมผสานวิธี ในเชิงปริมาณ กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้สูงอายุในเขตเทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี จำนวน 374 คน ด้วยตัวอย่างแบบแบ่งชั้น เครื่องมือที่ใช้ คือ แบบสอบถาม สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และการวิเคราะห์การถดถอยพหุคูณแบบขั้นตอน ส่วนวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพใช้แบบ สัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ จำนวน 20 คน โดยเลือกแบบเจาะจงจากปลัดเทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี เจ้าหน้าที่กองสวัสดิการสังคมเทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี และตัวแทนผู้สูงอายุในชุมชน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) การจัดสวัสดิการสังคมผู้สูงอายุและผลการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุโดยภาพรวมอยู่ในระดับมาก 2) ปัจจัยทางการจัดสวัสดิการสังคมที่ส่งผลต่อการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุในเขตพื้นที่เทศบาลเมืองเพชรบุรี จังหวัดเพชรบุรี มีค่าสัมประสิทธิ์ถดถอย (R) = 0.728 ซึ่งส่งทางบวกทุกตัว มีประสิทธิภาพในการทำนาย ร้อยละ 53.10 นำมาเขียนเป็นสมการถดถอยได้ดังนี้ tot = 0.271 (X4) + 0.241 (X3) + 0.143 (X2) และ 3) แนวทางการจัดสวัสดิการสังคมที่เหมาะสมต่อการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตผู้สูงอายุ คือ 1) ควรส่งเสริมกิจกรรมการสร้างสายสัมพันธ์ในครอบครัว 2) ควรจัดตั้งศูนย์บริการผู้สูงอายุเพื่อแก้ปัญหาผู้สูงอายุที่อยู่ลำพัง 3) ควรจัดตั้งศูนย์เพื่อดูแลผู้สูงอายุที่ไม่สามารถช่วยเหลือตัวเองได้ และ 4) ควรจัดกิจกรรมที่สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของแต่ละช่วงอายุ

งานวิจัยมีวัตถุประสงค์หลักเพื่อศึกษาลักษณะพฤติกรรมการเล่นพนันออนไลน์บนแอปพลิเคชันโทรศัพท์มือถือในกลุ่มผู้สูงอายุ ปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องที่ทำให้ผู้สูงอายุเกิดแรงจูงใจในการเล่นพนันออนไลน์บนโทรศัพท์มือถือ และผลกระทบด้านต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นกับผู้สูงอายุที่นิยมเล่นพนันออนไลน์ งานวิจัยเป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เก็บข้อมูลด้วยวิธีการชาติพันธุ์วรรณนาในกลุ่มผู้สูงอายุหลากหลายกลุ่มที่เล่นพนันออนไลน์ งานวิจัยมีข้อค้นพบสำคัญ คือ ผู้สูงอายุที่เล่นพนันออนไลน์สามารถแบ่งออกได้เป็น 2 กลุ่มใหญ่ ได้แก่ 1) กลุ่มผู้สูงอายุที่นิยมเล่นการพนันเป็นทุนเดิมอยู่แล้ว 2) กลุ่มผู้สูงอายุที่ไม่เคยเล่นการพนันอย่างจริงจังมาก่อน แต่เล่นพนันออนไลน์ด้วยเหตุผลว่ามีเวลาว่างและคาดหวังรายได้เพิ่ม ปัจจัยที่สร้างแรงจูงใจมีอยู่ 4 ปัจจัยหลัก คือ 1) ความชื่นชอบเล่นพนันเป็นทุนเดิม 2) วิถีชีวิตของผู้สูงอายุ 3) รายได้ที่ลดลงหลังเกษียณ 4) กลยุทธ์การตลาด ส่วนผลกระทบด้านต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นกับผู้สูงอายุที่นิยมเล่นพนันออนไลน์ ผู้สูงอายุประเมินตนเองว่าไม่ได้รับผลกระทบรุนแรงที่ชัดเจน มีผู้สูงอายุจำนวนน้อยได้รับผลกระทบด้านจิตใจและความสัมพันธ์ในครอบครัว

Emotion dysregulation is a common issue among college students with ADHD, and emotion dysregulation in adults with ADHD is associated with many negative outcomes including higher levels of psychological distress and social impairment, poorer functioning at school and work, greater symptoms of anxiety and depression, and lower quality of life. Past work suggests that physical exercise can be useful in treating core ADHD symptoms for children and adolescents with ADHD, but less is known about its effects for young adults with ADHD. Researchers have estimated that approximately 2.7 million children in the United States have a parent in jail or prison. Since 1991, the number of children with a father in prison grew by 77%, while the number of children with a mother in prison more than doubled (131%). In examining the consequences of maternal incarceration on children, many researchers have found an association between negative child outcomes and maternal incarceration. Although women earn less than men in all fifty states, some are skeptical of the gender pay gap. In this era of heightened polarization, voters increasingly disagree on established facts and the scientific consensus, such as climate change and the efficacy of vaccines. Utilizing an original survey of 1,075 respondents conducted during the summer of 2022, our findings showed four groups of respondents to be more likely to disagree with the statement that women earn less than men in their state: men, Republicans, conservatives, and those with more negative views toward women. While LGBTQIA+ rights have been increasing in the United States for decades, many states do not have non-discrimination policies that protect individuals based on their gender identity and sexual orientation. This lack in protection leaves many LGBTQIA+ individuals vulnerable to experiencing discrimination and harassment, which could lead to hate crimes, cultivating an environment of passive tolerance rather than active resistance. A Content Analysis Of Doubt: How Latter-Day Saints Interact Online When One Of Their Own Seeks Answers, Leilani Naomi Mascio, Ronald Smith

This content analysis examines how members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) interact with doubting members in online forums, focusing on Facebook and Reddit. Analyzing 1,115 comments from four public posts (August 2024–January 2025), six emergent themes characterize these interactions: (1) normalizing doubt, (2) thought-terminating clichés, (3) bringing back to the fold, (4) hierarchical escalation, (5) attributing doubt to Satan, and (6) emotional reasoning. Findings reveal that LDS members overwhelmingly dominate these discussions, employing doctrinal language, personal narratives, and appeals to authority to reintegrate doubters. Notably, non-member interference was rare, suggesting moderated or self-selected engagement. The …

Existing methods focus on situational awareness but often lack actionable insights. Even when engaged in synchronous dyadic video chats, individuals can be distracted from their communication partner. Drawing on the concept of crosstalk in face-to-face interactions, two studies explored the impact of a video chat partner’s distraction on perceptions of that partner’s social attractiveness, electronic propinquity, conversational immediacy, and social presence. This study investigates the influence of a place-based, hands-on engineering learning experience on rural middle school students' engineering career aspirations, using Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) as a framework. Employing a mixed-methods approach, we explored how these localized learning experiences shape students' career goals through socio-cognitive factors such as self-efficacy, outcome expectations, goals, and interest. Quantitative analysis of pre- and post-activity surveys revealed significant increases in career aspiration scores, particularly among students from farming backgrounds and female students with initially lower expectations. Path analyses indicated that self-efficacy and interest were the strongest mediators between Place-based learning and engineering career aspirations. …

Parent-teacher relationships are critical for Autistic student success. The purpose of the current project was to better understand parent-teacher relationships for Autistic students. This project was unique in its use of dyadic data from parents and teachers and its mixed methods design to explore parent-teacher relationship quality and congruence for Autistic students. In Wave 1, 37 parents and 37 teachers of Autistic students completed surveys measuring teacher self-efficacy, school climate, and parent-teacher relationship quality. Teacher efficacy was significantly positively associated with teacher reports of parent-teacher relationship quality. School climate was significantly positively associated with parent reports of parent-teacher relationship quality. …

In the ecological approach to perceiving and acting, affordances are emergent, higher-order relationships between animals and their environment. Accordingly, studies have shown that affordances are perceived ‘as such’ rather than as combinations of lower-order constituents of that affordance. We investigated whether affordances are created in the same way. Participants used circular rubber mats to create steppingstone paths from Mat A to Mat B (in the ‘Stop-at-B’ condition) and from Mat A to Mat B to Mat C (in the ‘Continue-to-C’ condition). This study explored the emotional and attitudinal effects of gratitude journaling exercises among 12-step program attendees for substance use disorders (SUDs) and behavioral addictions. A total of 152 participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group, which completed Seligman’s “Three Good Things” exercise and a structured gratitude journal, or a control group, which engaged in a neutral journaling task. Emotional states were assessed using the positive and negative affect schedule-short form (PANAS-SF), while cravings were monitored with the Penn alcohol craving scale (PACS) to ensure the interventions did not exacerbate participants’ alcohol cravings. This dissertation investigates the spillover effects of US monetary policy on international capital inflows to emerging market economies (EMEs) from 2003Q1 to 2019Q4, with a focus on quantitative easing (QE) and its normalization phases, including both tapering and quantitative tightening (QT). Using a panel data model with fixed effects, this dissertation finds that the spillover effects of US monetary policy during the QE period have a more pronounced effect on EME capital inflows than do those during the normalization period, where the effects are relatively muted. This study investigates the low political participation of Latinos in the United States, focusing on the strategies used by political parties, campaigns and non-partisan organization to increase voter turnout, as well as the mechanisms through which these strategies affect voting behavior.
