Updating Hp’S Sales Proposal Documents, Cody P. White

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

My capstone project focused on updating out-of-date proposal documents for my current employer, HP Inc. These proposal documents are delivered to each potential customer that is interested in signing up for our managed print services offering. These documents are a key selling tool for the program benefits but in their current format, they are lacking in up-to-date information and contain spelling and grammatical errors. The capstone focuses on the work completed by the stakeholders that are the most affected by the success of these documents.

Digital Marketing For Dance: Strategies, Analysis, And Discussion, Cydney Covert

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

This paper explores the importance of multiple factors in the digital marketing of dance organizations. Idaho's only professional ballet company, Ballet Idaho, is used as a case study to determine which marketing strategies are the most beneficial. Cross-referencing tactics from other dance organizations, this research aims to determine how companies can market their more abstract performances, include dancer perspectives in their content, and take advantage of peripheral cities in order to increase their audience-base.

Reassessing The Case For Development Charges In Canadian Municipalities, Andrew Sancton Oct 2021

Reassessing The Case For Development Charges In Canadian Municipalities, Andrew Sancton

Centre for Urban Policy and Local Governance – Publications

“Growth should pay for growth.” This slogan—the common justification for development charges—is rarely challenged in municipal circles. The principle that those who cause new urban growth should pay for the infrastructure associated with it has generally been taken for granted, at least for the last few decades. Development charges evolved from post-1945 subdivision agreements and were initially accepted by most developers as a mechanism for enhancing the likelihood that current residents in a municipality would agree to new development. They now add as much as $90,000 to the cost of a new house in some parts of the Greater Toronto …

Background: Given that new therapeutic options for spinocerebellar ataxias are on the horizon, there is a need for markers that reflect disease-related alterations, in particular, in the preataxic stage, in which clinical scales are lacking sensitivity. Objective: The objective of this study was to quantify regional brain volumes and upper cervical spinal cord areas in spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 in vivo across the entire time course of the disease. Methods: We applied a brain segmentation approach that included a lobular subsegmentation of the cerebellum to magnetic resonance images of 210 ataxic and 48 preataxic spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 mutation carriers …

Pitch Discrimination Is Better For Synthetic Timbre Than Natural Musical Instrument Timbres, Despite Familiarity, Emma Holmes, Elizabeth Kinghorn, Lucy Mcgarry, Elizabeth Busari, Timothy D. Griffiths, Ingrid Johnsrude Oct 2021

Pitch Discrimination Is Better For Synthetic Timbre Than Natural Musical Instrument Timbres, Despite Familiarity, Emma Holmes, Elizabeth Kinghorn, Lucy Mcgarry, Elizabeth Busari, Timothy D. Griffiths, Ingrid Johnsrude

Brain and Mind Institute Researchers' Publications

Pitch discrimination is better for complex tones than for pure tones, but how more subtle differences in timbre affect pitch discrimination is not fully understood. This study compared pitch discrimination thresholds of flat-spectrum harmonic complex tones with those of natural sounds played by musical instruments of three different timbres (violin, trumpet, and flute). To investigate whether natural familiarity with sounds of particular timbres affects pitch discrimination thresholds, this study recruited musicians who were trained on one of the three instruments. We found that flautists and trumpeters could discriminate smaller differences in pitch for artificial flat-spectrum tones, despite their unfamiliar timbre, …

Feminine Hygiene Kits For Girls/Women Worldwide, Deseret Lauree Lazarte Oct 2021

Feminine Hygiene Kits For Girls/Women Worldwide, Deseret Lauree Lazarte

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

Through research and personal experience I found that there is a disparity for girls and women throughout the world when it comes to a natural occurrence for females, called menstruation. For the sake of brevity, I will use the general term “girls” though I mean to include women, also. In many countries girls don’t understand this monthly feminine process and don’t have the proper equipment to use. In many countries girls are taught wives’ tales on why women menstruate. Because of this they perpetuate the falsehoods to their girls and this leads to insecurities and shame. They also do not …

Serving Synergy: A Service-Learning Capstone, Rochelle A. Wright

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

For my capstone project I chose to work with the non-profit organization Women’s and Children's Alliance in Boise, Idaho. I worked with the community to provide much needed items. In order to collect donations I reached out to the community and received so much support that we were able to provide help to two other non-profit organizations the City of Lights, and Dress for Success. I was able to help organize my community to come together and provide a service to the more vulnerable in our community.

Making Connections: Marketing Ideas For Interpreters, Steve Mcdermott Oct 2021

Making Connections: Marketing Ideas For Interpreters, Steve Mcdermott

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

There is a need for skilled interpreters to meet the needs of the increasingly diverse communities. Many get into the field of interpretation and translation in order to assist those with language barriers, as well as earn a living for themselves. The interpreters get into the field not realizing that to succeed they also need an entrepreneurial spirit. These entrepreneurial linguists are classified as independent contractors, as such they are responsible for the business aspects of their livelihood. This includes marketing themselves in order to grow their client base. Marketing can be a daunting task in itself. In speaking with …

Action Capstone: United Standby Travel Handbook, Danaya S. Kinikini

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

This project sought to answer the question, how might I create a travel handbook for airline employees to better utilize their travel privileges and improve morale? The handbook was broken down into three parts: resource how-to guide, standby travel handbook, and Facebook group. The airline industry saw an unprecedented busy summer travel season following the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns. Senior employees were finding themselves burnt out and new employees were overwhelmed with the workload due to short staffing levels. Many new employees were leaving for better compensated jobs. Stakeholders identified were United, management, and employees. If employees can utilize their travel …

Reversing The Aging Of The Skilled Trades Workers, Adam C. King Oct 2021

Reversing The Aging Of The Skilled Trades Workers, Adam C. King

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

For the past several decades there has been a prevalence of promoting the need for everyone to obtain at least a bachelor's degree to be able to have a successful career. This had led to a lack of interest of the younger generations in entering the skilled trades as a career. The result of this is that the average age of workers in the trades keeps increasing and as the boomer generation has retired there are not enough capable replacements entering the workforce. Having enough workers in the skilled trades is imperative to keeping the country moving forward by building …

Junky To Healthy, Ashley V. Stegall

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

Eating healthy is not always easy. In fact it can be quite challenging especially if you think you are alone. A support group is a great way to feel like you are not alone. This is not your average support group. Since I am a little rough around the edges, you could say the support group is too. It does have structure because I want it to succeed but people can yell, scream, cuss and throw squishy balls at the wall.

The problem was defined, and the approach was to create a presentation that established the foundational knowledge for retirement investing among high school students (the individuals who are just about to enter the workforce). The presentation was made, along with a short survey, and sent out to high school teachers in Idaho and Texas. The results presented that there is a fundamental lack of knowledge with regards to the subject …

Universities As Arts And Cultural Anchors: Moving Beyond Bricks And Mortar To Entrepreneurship, Workforce, And Community Development Approaches, Amanda Ashley, Leslie Durham Oct 2021

Universities As Arts And Cultural Anchors: Moving Beyond Bricks And Mortar To Entrepreneurship, Workforce, And Community Development Approaches, Amanda Ashley, Leslie Durham

Urban Studies and Community Development Faculty Publications and Presentations

Economic developers refer to universities as anchor institutions because they are rooted regional economic drivers that are sites for development, incubation, entrepreneurship, workforce training, and knowledge transfer. Most anchor research speaks generally about the university or focuses on STEM. Our study asks: to what extent are public universities arts and cultural anchors? Through a comparative case analysis supplemented with interviews of field innovators and a translation of transdisciplinary literature, we deepen the anchor concept, and we propose a conceptual assessment tool. Our applied research helps universities move from being an arts patron to an arts entrepreneur, investor, innovator, and catalyst.

Combined, 1049 people responded to these surveys.

We report on respondents' food security experiences since the COVID-19 pandemic started in New York State (March 7, 2020) compared to the prior year. We further explore the differential impacts of the pandemic on food security experiences by race and ethnicity, household income, …

The Multiple Simultaneous Stakeholder Phenomenon: Stakeholder Theory In The Church, Steve Jeantet Oct 2021

The Multiple Simultaneous Stakeholder Phenomenon: Stakeholder Theory In The Church, Steve Jeantet

Journal of Applied Christian Leadership

Stakeholder theory is useful in identifying individuals or groups that are invested in, benefit from, or are potentially harmed by an organization. This article identifies a weakness in the current literature. Unlike most for-profit organizations where the various groups of stakeholders are relatively discrete, churches frequently have individuals who are meaningful stakeholders in several arenas simultaneously. The same person can be a program participant (customer), volunteer (unpaid employee), elder or deacon (board member), and donor (investor). This phenomenon is labeled the multiple simultaneous stakeholder effect herein, and proposed implications for pastors and opportunities for future research are discussed.

Coming From Behind: The Mindset Of Overcoming Adversity, Gabriel Mccurtis Oct 2021

Coming From Behind: The Mindset Of Overcoming Adversity, Gabriel Mccurtis

Doctor of Strategic Leadership (DSL) Capstone Abstracts

This book is framed around an actual event experienced by Dr. Gabriel McCurtis in the spring of 1975. While a senior at Ventura High School, located in the coastal region of Southern California, Gabriel prepared for the Ventura County Channel League Track and Field Finals that involved several Ventura and Santa Barbara County schools. Gabriel ran the 120-yard high hurdles in 14.8 seconds earlier in the season, which was a good time; however, he experienced a few nasty falls and hit hurdles during the mid-course of the year, which caused him to lose. This book elucidates the various lessons, principles, …
