Strategic Planning Objectives For Venture Capitalist Investments In Emerging Information Technologies: A Value-Focused Perspective, 2015 Virginia State University
Strategic Planning Objectives For Venture Capitalist Investments In Emerging Information Technologies: A Value-Focused Perspective, David L. Coss, Gupreet Dhillon, Ifeoma Udeh
The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance
Abstract
Academic and practitioner literature suggests that Venture Capitalists often have problems with aligning information technology opportunities with investment objectives. To a large extent the alignment process is not formally documented and relies on intuitive instincts. Hence it is important to define Venture Capitalist objectives for investments in emerging information technologies. This paper uses the Value-Focused Thinking approach to identify, define and structure value driven objectives. Based on data collected from a number of Venture Capitalist interviews we identified 130 values, which resulted in 72 objectives. These objectives were organized into 22 clusters, which were bifurcated into fundamental and means …

Factors Affecting The Adoption Of New Technology: The Case Of 311 Government Call Centers, 2015 Florida International University
Factors Affecting The Adoption Of New Technology: The Case Of 311 Government Call Centers, Susan Caroline Young
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Government call centers (311) were first created to reduce the volume of non-emergency calls that were being placed to emergency 911 call centers. The number of 311 call centers increased from 57 in 2008 to about 300 in 2013. Considering that there are over 2,700 municipal government units across the United States, the adoption rate of the 311 centers is arguably low in the country. This dissertation is an examination of the adoption of 311 call centers by municipal governments. My focus is specifically on why municipal governments adopt 311 and identifying which barriers result in the non-adoption of 311 …

Nebraska Innovation Campus Materials
Innovation Campus is the University of Nebraska’s commendable effort to create a world-class scientific research park on the former Nebraska State Fairgrounds. Rather than blindly copying what’s being done in, say, Massachusetts or North Carolina,Innovation Campus is rightly building on Nebraska’s proven strengths. The point isn’t gargantuan size. Instead, it’s quality and specialization, using sound long-term planning and a phased approach to construction. Using a mix of $25 million in public funds and more than $100 million in private contributions, the project is focusing on fields in which Nebraska already has a strong reputation. A key example: food science. Innovation Campus …

The Organisational Climate Of Sustainability: A Survey, Anke Arnaud, Janet K. Tinoco, Dawna L. Rhoades
Janet K. Tinoco
This study describes three dimensions of the climate of sustainability and the development of a survey for assessing these dimensions. The authors report the results of two studies conducted to measure the climate of sustainability dimensions of sensitivity to sustainability (six items), motivation for sustainability (six items), and responsibility for sustainability (five items). Results support that the climate of sustainability is a reliable instrument and demonstrate the convergent and discriminant validity of each survey dimension. Furthermore, results show the criterion-related validity of the climate of sustainability with respect to innovation strategy and employee attitudes including satisfaction and turnover intentions. Implications …
Are Consumers Ready For Mobile Payment? An Examination Of Consumer Acceptance Of Mobile Payment Technology In Restaurant Industry, 2015 University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee
Are Consumers Ready For Mobile Payment? An Examination Of Consumer Acceptance Of Mobile Payment Technology In Restaurant Industry, Cihan Cobanoglu, Wan Yang, Anna Shatskikh, Anurag Agarwal
Hospitality Review
As an emerging payment method, mobile payment technology is perceived to be a secure and effective substitute of traditional debit/credit card payment. Although several reports and scholars claimed that mobile payment technology would become a major future payment method, consumers rather caught on this trend slowly, and little is known about key determinants of consumers’ acceptance of mobile payment. To close that gap, the current study extended the classic Technology Acceptance Model by adding four additional predictors that are relevant to hospitality industry. The study results suggested that compatibility with lifestyle was the strongest predictor of consumers’ intention to adopt …

Librarians have always tried to stretch the limits of applicable technologies to create effective connections among researchers and resources. We thrive on the tools and tactics that help us do this, and we are always on the prowl for newer, better alternatives. This is one of the best ways we have of keeping high service standards in the face of shrinking budgets and skeletal staffing. Fortunately, there have never been so many technologies to choose from, and there have never been so many challenges calling out for technological intervention.
Hosting online instruction sessions is, for example, an excellent opportunity for …

Consumer Perception Of Tactile Packaging: A Research Study On Preferences Of Soft Touch And Hi Rise Coatings In Cosmetic Packaging, Malcolm G. Keif Ph.D., Colleen Twomey, Andrea Stoneman
Journal of Applied Packaging Research
A choice-based conjoint study was conducted sampling 400 individuals to determine their preference for Soft Touch and raised tactile coatings, which are sometimes called Hi Rise or profile coatings. Soft Touch coatings have a velvety, warm feel to them, and Hi Rise coatings simulate embossing with a glossy appearance to them. Both are considered tactile coatings, engaging the sense of touch.
Demographic profile data, level of agreement about statements related to cosmetic packaging and packaging choice set selections were collected. The conjoint sets contained three attributes: design color, tactile coatings, and price.
Design choice was split. Approximately half of the …

Cross-functional teams are all the rage in business where teams working on new product development can benefit from greater innovativeness and creativity when more diverse work units are put together to develop consumer products [1]. Within the realm of academia, particularly within engineering disciplines, the objectives and interactions of students remains narrow and targeted to the discipline of study. In this paper we look at the potential of enhanced learning outcomes driven by working in a cross-‐functional or multidisciplinary teams with an appropriate project being available. We examine the role an organically-‐formed student club played in providing just such a …

SJD Dissertations
My dissertation explores intellectual property rights in three fields: fashion, music and education. I examine the varying degrees of IP rights in those fields, and ask whether the differing levels of rights are appropriate to keep these industries creative, innovative and robust. I further examine the salient characteristics of those rights and ask whether such an understanding might help to determine optimal levels of IP protection in other creative industries.

This Essay proceeds as follows. We briefly introduce the concept of creative destruction and its place in Schumpeter’s work in Part II. In Part III we explain why a truly Schumpeterian competition policy demands more than a laissez faire approach. We explain why the law must preserve opportunities and incentives for creative destruction at all stages of innovation and we review four key policy areas of antitrust law from this innovation-focused perspective: unilateral conduct cases (Part III.A), cases at the intersection of IP and antitrust (Part III.B), Sherman Act section 1 cases (Part III.C), and merger policy (Part III.D). In …

The fictional SRI investment firm “Good Business Investors” is evaluating a significant investment in either Uber or Lyft in the newly emerging ride-sharing business. In this mini-case, students are asked to evaluate the alignment of this proposed investment with the firm’s stated values and make a recommendation to management as to this alignment and which firm would be the more appropriate investment. Students will gain insight into the values-based investment movement as well as skills in the evaluation of investment options.
