This essay considers how a historical legacy of printed games dating back to the sixteenth century in Italy laid the foundation for modern board games like those produced by Milton Bradley. The technology of print and the broad publics it reached enabled the spread of a common gaming culture- one built upon shared visual structures in game boards. Modern board games, of course, relied upon similar rules and replicated the ludic functions of their Renaissance progenitors. In Chinese exporting, small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) need to be innovative to develop a competitive advantage. This research explored how these organizations can use two resources: 1) guanxi with customers, distributors, suppliers, and government officials; and 2) IT systems to enhance their innovation capabilities and new product performance. The moderating role of an organization’s proactiveness with respect to new product development is also examined. The resource-based view provides the theoretical support for the research. A conceptual model is developed and tested using survey data gathered from 210 Chinese SMEs in manufacturing industries that were analyzed using SmartPLS 2.0. Results …

St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Report

Area firms reported strong economic conditions over the past three months as local employment grew at a 1.9 per­cent rate over the year ending July 2018. Results of the St. Cloud Area Business Outlook Survey indicate strong current business activity by area firms despite historic difficulty finding qualified workers. The six-month ahead future business activity outlook was weaker for surveyed firms as 30 percent offirms expect decreased business activity by February 2019. As the future closure of Electrolux approaches and the impact of national tariffs begins to be felt, the area economy is entering a period of heightened uncertainty that …

The paper presents the report of a panel that debated the review process in the information systems (IS) discipline at ICIS 2017 in Seoul, Korea. The panel asked the fundamental question of whether we need to rethink the way we review papers in the discipline. The panelists partnered with the audience to explore some reviewing limitations in IS today and the ways that reviewing in the discipline might change to address some of its difficulties.
