Gross National Happiness (Gnh): Linkages To And Implications For Macromarketing, Gene R. Laczniak, Nicholas J. C. Santos

This theoretical commentary explores the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) and connects it with several central macromarketing concepts such as QoL, ethics, the common good, the purpose of market activity as well as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The paper portrays GNH as a normative concept that captures collective well-being; it categorizes GNH, at least from the standpoint of Western moral philosophy, as most closely aligned with classical utilitarianism, and it distinguishes GNH from QoL on the basis of its predominantly aspirational and subjective orientation. The problem to be addressed was the deficiency of financial support, as a result of dwindling effectiveness of fundraising using traditional methods needed to meet the Alzheimer’s Association goal of finding a treatment by 2025. The purpose of this quantitative descriptive case study was to examine the current traditional marketing approaches of fundraising for the Alzheimer’s nonprofits. The significance of the study was finding that the survey participants preferred the traditional approach to the nontraditional approach. An entertainment event was the most favored approach. A Model For Perceived Destination Value And Tourists' Souvenir Intentions, Wei Wang, Gallayanee Yaoyuneyong, Pauline Sullivan, Brigitte W. Burgess

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

This research explores the influence of value perception on tourists’ souvenir purchase decisions. A convenience sample of 380 respondents from a Southeastern U.S. university completed survey instruments regarding their destination, shopping venue, and souvenirs purchased. Results revealed significant positive influences between five value perceptions (functional, emotional, novelty, value for money, and social) and tourists’ souvenir purchase intentions. These results provide valuable marketing and strategic planning insights to destination retailers.

Consumer behavior is dynamic, and there is a beauty in trying to understand consumer’s intention for a product category like organic apparel, especially when it is a unique phenomenon that is scantly explored in an emerging economy like India. This paper is an attempt at understanding the factors that influence Indian consumer’s intention to purchase organic apparel. A purposive sampling procedure was adopted in selecting participants. A focus group discussion was conducted to capture data for the thematic analysis. Theoretical thematic analysis was conducted by relying on the theory of planned behavior model. Online doctoral education enrollment continues to rise, and the number of academic institutions who offer the degrees are increasing proportionately. Various types of institutions are involved in this growth, including those that are faith-based. Due to the competitive nature of all online doctoral degrees, including faith-based and secular programs, it is imperative to understand the needs and concerns of the students who enroll in such programs. Students enrolled in a faith-based university online doctoral program were surveyed regarding their concerns about online doctoral education.
