Forecasting Demand For Optimal Inventory With Long Lead Times: An Automotive Aftermarket Case Study, Chris Anderson 2021 University of Missouri-St. Louis

Forecasting Demand For Optimal Inventory With Long Lead Times: An Automotive Aftermarket Case Study, Chris Anderson

Dissertations

Accuracy in predicting customer demand is essential to building an economic inventory policy under periodic review, long lead-time, and a target fill rate. This study uses inventory and customer service level as a stock control metric to evaluate the forecast accuracy of different simple to more complex predictive analytical techniques. We show how traditional forecast error measures are inappropriate for inventory control, despite their consistent usage in many studies, by evaluating demand forecast performance dynamically with customer service level as a stock control metric that includes inventory holdings costs, stock out costs, and fill rate service levels. A second contribution …

American Business Review

In the summer of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to spread around the world, institutions of higher education were faced with three options in terms of their teaching modality for fall 2020: resume in-person education, switch to online delivery, or adopt a hybrid approach. This observational research study aims to tease out the variables that explain the decisions announced in summer 2020 by various colleges and universities in the United States for their planned instruction for fall 2020. We propose and test eight hypotheses related to the decision. The study found statistical confirmation that universities with higher financial stability …

Branding Kidfluencers: Regulating Content And Advertising On Youtube, Gavin Feller, Benjamin Burroughs

Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies Faculty Publications

This paper analyzes emerging shifts in YouTube, advertising, and children’s digital media industries through a case study of Pocket Watch, a digital-first production and distribution studio built exclusively for YouTube child stars. Our analysis reveals the company’s strategic use of legacy media industry power, networks, and expertise to transform YouTube stars into global brands through the creation of toy, clothing, and lifestyle product lines across several industries. We further argue that Pocket Watch’s newly formed advertising division, Clock Work, exploits its child partners through problematic native advertising and host selling practices. The strategies implemented by Pocket Watch and other similar …

Analytics-Based Optimization For The Integration Of Drones Into Last-Mile Logistics, Amro M. El-Adle

Doctoral Dissertations

The growing volume and consistency of online ordering has renewed focus on the optimization of logistics and interest in technology-driven supply chain operations. Recent trials have demonstrated the viability of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), known colloquially as drones, in last-mile deliveries. In minimizing delivery times for customers, reducing the load of logistics workers, and reducing congestion and pollution per delivery, the integration of drones into traditional delivery networks presents transformative potential to benefit consumers, firms, and society at large. This dissertation investigates operational and tactical problems that inform routing and assignment decisions for vehicle-drone delivery systems. In three essays …

The Value Of A Technical Service Bulletin Index For The Consumer, Robert J. Richardson

Communications of the IIMA

Automobile Technical Service Bulletin Index represents additional information pertaining on the quality of a vehicle. Currently, there is no way for the consumer to evaluate this large amount of information when buying a new car. A Technical Service Bulletin Index is developed as an aid to the consumer to better understand the quality issues related to thirty different car models. When compared to two major existing surveys, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study and the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, the Technical Service Bulletin Index proved that it provides new, useful information about automobile quality for consumers to use when …

The Cost Of Big Data: Evaluating The Effects Of The European Union’S General Data Protection Regulation, Kara Rebecca White

EURēCA: Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement

In the 1990’s the World Wide Web was created, drastically changing the way we do business, communicate, and live our lives. Ten years later in the early 2000’s the dot com boom happened, and several years later, new technology giants emerged—like Amazon, Google, and Facebook. From this, we now face “big data” that promises to solve world problems, but has the potential to create turmoil and malfeasance. My research examines the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enacted in the EU in 2016 on firm value using Tobin’s Q and CARs. Using regression analyses, I observe that Tobin’s …

Grading Business Journals: A Comparative Analysis Of Abs, Abdc And Jcr Quartiles And Proposing An Algorithm Based Classification, Tenghao Zhang

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

There are multiple journal rankings that measure academic journals in business research. Among them, ABS (AJG), ABDC and JCR quartiles are the most widely used in business schools across the globe. Which is better in grading business journals based upon their academic performance? In this study, we used the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and evaluated 103 business journals based on six scientometric indicators. Then we proposed a grading simulation approach to simulate the original grades based on the TOPSIS scores and the results suggest that the JCR quartile …

Amazon: A Maze Through China - An International Marketing Case Study, Hanane Goubil

Symposium of Student Scholars

Amazon is an e-commerce technology company best known for its fast delivering time and for being one of the tops of the big four technology companies in the United States. Despite its success in the U.S. and several countries abroad, it has struggled to succeed in China since 2004 where Alibaba and JD.com control 82% of the market. This is due to Amazon failing to compete with Alibaba and neglecting to acclimatize their online offers to appease Chinese customers’ preferences. An example of this is that Alibaba has its own payment system called Alipay, while Amazon had yet to include …
