This applied research project examines the perceptions, goals, and challenges Latinx small business owners face when participating in daily business activities and attempting to access resources. Through nine in-depth interviews with business owners in Berwyn, Illinois, and personal observations and professional discussions, this capstone identifies critical barriers, such as: language, “missing links” to resources, exclusionary marketing practices, and weak connections to financial institutions and governmental entities. In response, this study offers recommendations to economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, city governments, and business communities. The 2018 Public Consultation On Standardized Packaging In Singapore: Analysis Of Policy Actors' Submissions, Gianna Gayle H. Amul

After a public consultation in 2018, Singapore implemented standardized tobacco packaging as part of its portfolio of tobacco control policies in 2020, in compliance with Article 11 guidelines for implementing the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. This study analyzed policy actors in opposition to standardized packaging in Singapore and their submissions to the public consultation. Policy actors were profiled, and their arguments were then coded and compared across submissions. Descriptive results were then summarized in a narrative synthesis. Objectives Patients with tuberculosis (TB) generally are instructed to isolate at the beginning of treatment in order to prevent disease transmission. The duration of isolation varies and may be prolonged (ie, lasting 1 month or more). Few studies have examined the impact of isolation during TB treatment on adolescents, who may be more vulnerable to its negative effects.

AbstractThis hermeneutic phenomenological study explored the lived professional experiences involving mental health providers’ cultural sensitivity towards Latinx clients in the context of mental health service delivery. Pedersen and Essadoh’s multiculturalism framework, known as the “fourth force” of psychology, was used as a guiding framework. Fifteen mental health providers were recruited. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews via Skype, in-person, or phone interviews with participants who had from two to over thirteen years of working experience with Latinx populations. Previous research has uncovered the practice of implicit bias in the form of pre-employment discrimination against minority groups based on factors not reflective of their work ethic or qualifications.
