This paper investigates the relationship between inflation, trade, unemployment, education, and economic growth on income inequality in the South American OECD countries (Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Peru). While Argentina, Brazil, and Peru are not official OECD countries, they have a working relationship with OECD and have taken the first steps toward initiation in OECD. The variable that represents income inequality is the Gini Index World Bank estimator, and the variable that represents economic growth is GDP. This paper uses a panel data set from 2006 to 2020. This paper investigates the potential determinants for international integration and effects of export-led growth in Latin American countries to determine the most effective measure of growth in the countries. The study incorporates information asymmetry into a GDP per capita growth model to examine the influence of openness, human capital, export diversity, and more. While examining data from World Bank development indicators, it has been shown that there are at least nine different variables that provide relevant data to create a functional model. The results show that there are many applicable determinants that can be used in the model without over-correlation. …

Scholars have studied the effects of framing on different groups of people for decades. There has also been research on the relationship between religious beliefs and politics. This article takes the unique population of a Christian college campus to combine the test of faith against politics through subtle framing. When faced with a political frame, will these Christians ultimately side with their political beliefs or their religious beliefs? I found through a questionnaire experiment run in November 2021 on Taylor University students and some faculty that religious beliefs prevailed. The one-minute paper (OMP) is a popular one-shot session assessment which often consists of asking two questions: 1 . What is the most important thing you learned today? 2 . What questions do you still have? Although simple, each question has a purpose. The first is broad, focusing on the importance of concepts learned (Chizmar & Ostrosky, 1998), and promotes active learning and reflection (Stead, 2005). Celebration of Scholarship 2022

This study explored relationships between preadolescents’ perceived trust in parents and police and between home victimization and trust. It utilized extant data from a longitudinal study conducted in São Paulo, Brazil, in which 800 participants completed questionnaires assessing parental legitimacy. Analysis revealed significant relationships between trust in parents and police, although most correlations were weak. Results indicated a positive relationship between trust in parents and police, while home victimization was negatively related to trust. This negative relationship yields implications for preadolescent health and safety and broadens the literature on trust and impacts of victimization. Future studies could incorporate non-self-report measures, …

Politics and news media are very connected to each other. Many people get mad at news sites for what they report or how they report it, but how much of an effect does news have on politics? We decided to test and see how much the type of news that people watch affects the way that they vote. We looked at which news people watched and how they voted in national elections, and we found that there is little to no evidence to show that there is any impact of news on people’s voting.

On February 1, 2022, two security officers were killed by a gunman on the Bridgewater College campus. Our peaceful community was rocked by heartbreak. The fear, trauma, and grief of that day and the days—and months—to follow were uncharted and challenging in as many different ways as there were individuals impacted.

When the Strategic Public Relations (COMM 347) met for the first time when classes resumed a week later, after processing together their feelings and reactions to the day, they determined that they wanted to do something to help in the healing. This action concerned an appeal from the Industrial Relations Court where an employee was employed on a permanent contract by Voluntary Services Overseas Zambia as an Administrative Officer on 11th July 1996. He was later promoted to the position of Officer Manager.

In 2001/2002, the employer changed its employment policy from employing staff on permanent terms to employing them on fixed-term contract. By 2008, the employer begun restructuring and informed employees. Existing research in campus recreation establishes a relationship between facility use and academic outcomes, but published studies define users differently. In response to inconsistent definitions of participants in campus recreation, this study uses a data-driven approach to compare facility use definitions. Authors illustrate the implications of choosing different participant definitions for relationships between campus recreation and two undergraduate academic outcomes, first-year retention and first-year cumulative grade point average (GPA). This study uses data from a three-year timeframe, linking sources of data on students’ recreation facility use, academic outcomes, and student records. The Flourish Foundation, a social-profit organization, based in Hailey, Idaho, helps facilitate a youth service-learning program maintaining wilderness trails for the Sawtooth National Recreation Area called the Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). This program aims to provide emerging adults with service-learning opportunities in wilderness conservation and outdoor living skills by spending several days living in the backcountry and maintaining wilderness trails. Across three experimental studies, we explored how a political candidate's intersections of skin tone, race, and ethnicity affect voting preferences and interpersonal judgments (e.g., warmth, trustworthiness, expertise). Study 1 assessed whether White participants would favor a light-skinned (vs. dark-skinned) African American candidate. Study 2 investigated participant (White vs. non-White) voting preferences based on the interaction between candidate race/ethnicity and relative skin tone (lighter vs. darker). In Study 3, we examined the influence of candidate race/ethnicity on voters’ preferences as well as the accuracy and impact of memory for candidate skin tone. I made a poll with students attending Boise State about stigma and mental illness and posted it on Instagram for those people to take it. As of 2020, more than 75% of Americans believe that the U.S. should prioritize developing alternative energy sources to fossil fuels. Despite this, there has been relatively little action at the federal level to expand and encourage renewable energy in the U.S., resulting in decentralized, bottom-up renewables promotion across the states. This project seeks to explain why some U.S. state legislatures have energy policies that promote the development of renewables and ease the connection of renewable energy sources to the electric grid. The Nature Of Persons And Our Ethical Relations With Nonhuman Animals, Jeremy Barris

If we accept that at least some kinds of nonhuman animals are persons, a variety of paradoxes emerge in our ethical relations with them, involving apparently unavoidable disrespect of their personhood. We aim to show that these paradoxes are legitimate but can be illuminatingly resolved in the light of an adequate understanding of the nature of persons. Drawing on recent Western, Daoist, and Zen Buddhist thought, we argue that personhood is already paradoxical in the same way as these aspects of our ethical relations with nonhuman animals, and in fact is the source of their paradoxical character.
