Developmental and contextual factors may largely contribute to how an undergraduate student athlete develops maladaptive perfectionism (MP) within his or her athletic performance. Being able to understand different possible etiologies of MP will provide enriching clinical information to tailor more in-depth treatment approaches for the student-athlete(s) being impacted by the serious and life-threatening side effects of MP. This literature review provides a comprehensive summary on MP and how it may manifest in the athlete, in addition to how it can mature and intensify throughout one’s athletic career. This study examines the impact of foreign ownership on firm productivity in private firms, employing the World Bank Enterprise Survey (WBES) dataset, which includes over 120, 000 firms from 139 countries. We find strong and robust evidence that foreign ownership is positively related to firm productivity. We then explore possible channels through which foreign ownership could impact firm productivity. Firms with foreign ownership are more likely to engage in innovation, telecommunication, and labor cost reduction, and less likely to face financial constraints. A Principal-Agent Approach For Estimating Firm Efficiency: Revealing Bank Managerial Behavior, Levent Kutlu, Emmanuel Mamatzakis, Mike G. Tsionas

We consider agency-theory-based structural and reduced form models of bank performance. In the structural models, we take into account the managerial decision-making processes, and reveal underlying managerial efforts and thereby managerial behavior. In an empirical application, we estimate performance of Eurozone banks using our novel structural and reduced form approaches by Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques. Our findings show, for the first time, that bank underperformance persists in the Eurozone whereas considerable variability across Member States exists. Our agency-theory-based structural modeling would favor cooperation of all interested parties and towards higher financial integration.

The Impact Of Juvenile Offender Race On Public Perception Of Crime Seriousness, Megan Whitaker

Public perception of crime is an important focus of research, especially when considering juvenile offenders. However, there is very limited research in this area. This study looked at how the public perceives crime seriousness and how race of the juvenile offender impacts the overall seriousness rating. An online survey that included 15 crime scenarios was completed by 176 participants. It was hypothesized that a crime would be rated as more severe when the juvenile offender is African American as compared to a Caucasian juvenile offender. Results found that participants overall rated the seriousness of offenses as significantly higher for Caucasian …

The United States' response to the COVID-19 pandemic has relied heavily on personal mitigation behaviors versus centralized governmental prevention strategies, especially early in the virus's outbreak. This study examines how family structure shapes mitigation, focusing on the intersectional effects of gender, marital status, and the presence of children while accounting for differences in worry about infection from the virus. Using data from a national survey of 10,368 United States adults early in the pandemic (March 2020), survey-weighted logistic regression models show important differences in the likelihood of personal mitigation adoption across family structures. Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people represent a small percent of the population and yet, they experience sexual violence at disproportionately high rates compared to their cisgender counterparts (Grant et al, 2011; James et al., 2016). The purpose of this interpretative phenomenological study is to gain a more nuanced understanding of the role that unwanted sexual experiences play in the lives of transgender and gender diverse people, particularly in relation to how they conceptualize their gender identity and the construct of posttraumatic growth (PTG). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight TGD participants who met the inclusion criteria. The article distinguishes between two types of risks: conventional and systemic risks. Conventional risks can be contained in space and time, follow linear cause–effect relationships and can be addressed with effective and pointed interventions into the cause–effect chain. Systemic risks, however, are characterized by high complexity, transboundary effects, stochastic relationships, nonlinear cause–effect patterns with tipping points, and are often associated with less public attention than they require. The article addresses the reasons why systemic risks seem to be attenuated in public perception. To keep users abreast of these changes, effective communication is necessary between the electronic resources librarian and the library team. At Queens College Library, the Library Team consisting of faculty librarians and staff are alerted to electronic resources changes through emails and posts to a Microsoft Teams library channel. This research study investigates the behaviors, knowledge, and skills necessary for academic library outreach work. Through a review of published literature, job advertisements, and a survey of library practitioners conducted in the fall of 2020, the authors define and prioritize 18 competencies for outreach. Hiring managers, LIS instructors, and practitioners can utilize the results of this study to structure and lay out the essential areas of outreach work in academic libraries.

The sex difference in depression is a well-established and replicated clinical finding, with previous literature indicating that females report more depression than males. However, recent theory and research suggests the sex gap in depressive symptoms may have declined or been eliminated in recent years. The current study examined depressive symptoms among a current (2017-2021) cohort of 1377 undergraduates (18-29 years; M=19.80, 79% female) using the 20-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). I hypothesized that the current sex difference in depressive symptoms would be small or nonsignificant. Results indicated that although males reported more anhedonia (t = 2.65, …

Existing research on the predator cue circuit has indicated there are observed differences between sexes of animals either directly or indirectly exposed to a predator stimulus. Exposure increases predator directed attention, and overrides other motivational systems (hunger, pain, reproductive behavior). Little research has explored whether exposure to predation is associated with differential responses to non-predator related decision-making across a variety of tasks.
