Factors Associated With Attracting Business And Industry To Selected Black Belt Counties Of Alabama, Andrew Zekeri
Factors Associated With Attracting Business And Industry To Selected Black Belt Counties Of Alabama, Andrew Zekeri
Professional Agricultural Workers Journal
There is limited recent research on the economic development strategies that local officials, state, and federal governments are employing in rural Alabama. To better understand these strategies, the data were collected from local community officials in two rural Alabama counties. The objectives are to examine what efforts are being used, and what resources are available for economic development efforts. Data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analyses to test the hypothesis that past community action and community solidarity variables can contribute to a higher probability of recruiting business and industry than will be predicted by the ecological characteristics of the communities …

Impact Of Selected Factors On Farm Income For The Alabama Black Belt Counties And Non-Alabama Black Belt Counties, David Nii O. Tackie
Professional Agricultural Workers Journal
The study examined the impact of selected factors on farm income in the Alabama Black Belt Counties (ABBCs) and Non-Alabama Black Belt Counties (NABBCs). Data were obtained from the 2017 Census of Agriculture and analyzed using ordinary least square regression analysis. The results revealed that for the ABBCs, average size of farms, government payments, and average farm production expenses significantly affected average cash farm income (ACFI); for the NABBCs, median size of farms, government payments, and average farm production expenses significantly affected ACFI. Furthermore, for the ABBCs, average size of farms, government payments, and total farm production expenses significantly impacted …

The Qualitative Report
As the United States’ aging population grows, there will be increased prevalence of individuals living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias (ADRD), who largely rely on the support of their family caregivers. Family caregivers residing in rural areas face additional challenges with managing caregiving responsibilities and navigating support services. The purpose of this multilevel phenomenological qualitative study was to explore the assets, unique needs, and resources of rural-residing ADRD caregivers from the caregiver, provider, and policy influencers’ perspectives. The study took place between 2019 through 2021 in northern Arizona, a largely rural and geographically vast area home to caregivers from …

Reviving The Christian Left: A Thematic Analysis Of Progressive Christian Identity In American Politics, Adam Blake Arledge
Reviving The Christian Left: A Thematic Analysis Of Progressive Christian Identity In American Politics, Adam Blake Arledge
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
While Christianity in American politics today is mostly dominated by the voice of the Religious Right, many are unaware that there also exists a significant number of progressive Christians throughout the country. This diverse group, often referred to as the Christian Left, is not as organized or outspoken as conservative Christians and tends to shy away from the restrictive influence of identity labels. However, members all share in common a passion for social justice issues. This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the identity of Christian Left individuals through a thematic analysis of interviews. By interrogating participants’ identity …

Communicating Breast Cancer Awareness: Using The Health Belief Model To Develop Mass Communication Themes To Influence Early Detection Behaviors, Srisai Kamakshi Ramya Harika Pucha
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Breast cancer (BC) is the most fatal cancer in India and has affected more than 1.3 million people in the year 2020 alone, making it a national public health priority. The reason for this alarming increase in BC incidences and mortality rates stems from a severe lack of awareness and the absence of targeted interventions. Considering the absence of a national level breast cancer awareness program, the following study sought to understand Indian women’s preconceived notions about the disease and the available screening methods to contribute to future mass communication campaigns in India. The study used a pre-designed interview guide …

Gulf States: Pakistan has enjoyed very friendly relations with the Gulf States. The first generation of Emirates rulers were very favourably disposed towards Pakistan as they received a lot of cooperation in their journey towards the modernization of the country. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have absorbed a large number of Pakistani workers in their labour force and are the two top sources of remittances. The UAE is one of the major trading partners and Saudi Arabia and Kuwait suppliers of petroleum products and crude oil while Qatar has long-term contracts for LNG. These countries have been coming to Pakistan’s …

Moderators And Processes Of Change In A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial Of Acceptance-Enhanced Behavior Therapy For Trichotillomania In Adolescents, Julie M. Petersen, Leila K. Capel, Michael E. Levin, Michael P. Twohig
Psychology Faculty Publications
Treatments for trichotillomania in adolescence have historically been under-researched. This paper presents secondary analyses of treatment moderators and processes of change from a pilot trial assessing the efficacy of teletherapy acceptance-enhanced behavior therapy (AEBT) in adolescents (N = 28). All participants received 10 sessions of AEBT and completed questionnaires at baseline, post-treatment, and longitudinal follow-up from three-, six-, and twelve-months. The moderation effects of baseline general psychological inflexibility, baseline trichotillomania-specific psychological inflexibility, age, and comorbid diagnoses were explored via multilevel modeling using longitudinal outcomes. Comorbid conditions significantly moderated treatment outcome, indicating that more comorbidity was associated with better outcome, even …

Capitalizing On A Captive Audience: A Collaborative Workshop Connecting Graduate Students To Open Access, Wendy Walker, Catherine Filardi
All Things Open
The complexities of Open Access can result in uninformed high-stakes decision-making for researchers on the cusp of entering the publishing world. Graduate students need to understand how Open Access influences their research practices, and how to negotiate rights in a complex publishing ecosystem. Here we describe a collaboration between research librarians and writing center professionals that integrates Open Access education into a workshop series on graduate student writing. Specifically, we co-designed a presentation that bridged manuscript preparation (an obvious publication step) with the less-obvious issues surrounding Open Access.

An Overview Of Knowledge Management Research In Zimbabwe: From 2010 To 2022, Jonathan Munyoro, Takawira Machimbidza, Stephen Mutula
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper gives an overview of knowledge management (KM) research in Zimbabwe and analyses the most significant research trends and patterns from 2010 to 2022. The literature review technique was used to collect data, focusing on characteristics of publication outputs, focus of the researches, research methods, and summary of key findings. Findings show that research in knowledge management is still limited in Zimbabwe. The corporate sector receives the most focus from KM researchers, followed by knowledge-oriented institutions, the public sector, Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), media organisations, and agriculture-related enterprises. Universities, despite being both knowledge factories and large consumers of …

Role Of Dim Artificial Light At Night (Dalan) On Body Weight Percentage Increase Of Mus Musculus, Stephanie A. Babinec
Journal of the South Carolina Academy of Science
Light pollution at night is a growing issue in many suburban and urban settings, commonly referred to as artificial light at night (ALAN). Many studies have been conducted as to how the intensity or wavelength of this lighting can disrupt the circadian rhythm but none have evaluated how the timing of this light could affect it. It is hypothesized that those that chronically experience dim artificial light at night (dALAN) after biological day will lead to a more pronounced disruption in the metabolic system and therefore will cause an increased level of weight gain. Mice were used as test subjects …

Understanding Motivations Among Sustained Cooperative Extension Partners For Obesity Prevention In Rural Louisiana, Catherine R. Losavio
Understanding Motivations Among Sustained Cooperative Extension Partners For Obesity Prevention In Rural Louisiana, Catherine R. Losavio
LSU Master's Theses
Louisiana consistently has one of the highest rates of obesity in the nation with higher concentrations of obesity in many rural parishes (i.e., counties). Due to over a century of visibility and engagement in rural communities, Cooperative Extension (Extension) is uniquely poised to reach remote rural communities disproportionately impacted by obesity. As Extension increases its use of community coalitions and implements its new National Framework for Health Equity and Well-Being, understanding motivations and communication preferences among long-term rural coalition partners for obesity prevention and health promotion has become essential for duplicating successful local-level policy, system, and environmental (PSE) changes. This …

Working Around Our Cms: Providing Access To 78,000 Images When "Digitize Everything" Is The Goal, Wendy Guerra
Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
At the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Criss Libraries' Archives and Special Collections, we are working on a project to digitize and provide access to ALL of our material related to the now defunct UNO football program. The project was conceptualized before I started at UNO just over two years ago, so I envision sharing a bit about projects that promise online access to EVERYTHING as well as the digitization effort, and particularly the access via our content management system Islandora. We use a hosted instance of Islandora 7, so we don't have the true flexibility of open-source software. …

Beyond The Books And Lecture Halls: An Amateur Entrepreneur's Oa Ramblings, Aajay Murphy
All Things Open
Both academic and entrepreneurial spaces benefit from the use of open resources. This presentation focuses on the latter space, as not every student is going to continue in academia. According to the National Science Foundation's 2012 Science and Engineering Indicators, "less than 17% of new PhDs in science, engineering and health-related fields find tenure-track positions within 3 years after graduation." The numbers are similar across most disciplines. Aajay Murphy prepares students for all potential post-college outcomes in this presentation, not just academia.

To Move A River: Libraries As Funders For Open Access Publication, Eric Buckenmeyer, Chelsee Dickson
All Things Open
Much as Ohio University diverted the Hocking River to avoid catastrophic annual flood damage, so too must academic libraries consider alternative means of publishing materials to reduce inflating costs that drive a catastrophic loss of resources. To encourage transformative open access agreements that provide lower-cost and more accessible materials, Eric Buckenmeyer, Interim Teaching & Learning Librarian, and Chelsee Dickson, Scholarly Communications Librarian, have developed a proposal for an open access fund to begin “moving the river” of funding from gaining access to pay-walled materials to funding open access publishing content. In this talk, we discuss a vision of a publishing …
