Following the Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals (1993) ruling three decades ago, guidelines were established for determining the reliability and validity of expert testimony in court. These guidelines include considerations of whether the theory and methodologies employed have been tested, the establishment of potential or known error rates, and the existence and maintenance of the standards (Christensen, 2004). Testifying in court as an expert witness has become a critical role as a forensic anthropologist. As such, the methodologies, techniques, and standards utilized by forensic anthropologists must be carefully considered and adhere to the Daubert guidelines within the court system. One …

In March of 2022, The Walt Disney Company voiced opposition to Florida’s "Parental Rights in Education" (“Don’t Say Gay”) in support of LGBTQ+ stakeholders within in the company and the public. This research studied a dataset of 68,481 tweets where the company’s stance was constructed as “grooming” children, i.e. manipulating children for sexual abuse. Tweets were collected from March 13, 2022 to May 16, 2022 representing a two month period from Disney’s stance against "Parental Rights in Education.” As grooming is a term often associated with human trafficking and Disney is a major media company, this study is interested in …

Prior research indicates that social media is primarily a negative contributor to Covid-19 vaccine outcomes.

Objective

The current systematic review of Covid-19 primary series and booster vaccine investigations provides a more nuanced and comprehensive assessment of this association by exploring a) how distinct social media judgmentsand actions predict different vaccine-related outcomes - perceptions and intentions/uptake, b) both primary series and booster findings, c) types of social media, and d) comparisons across different populations.

How does Singapore conduct strategic diplomacy despite being a small and constrained state? This report first identifies the major long-term drivers affecting Singapore’s security, both at the domestic level (rapidly ageing population, immigrant assimilation, and growing societal fault-lines) and at the international or systemic level (changing global order, power of technology, slow collective action on climate change). Then it analyses how Singapore strategists deal with two of their most prominent problem-sets: (i) positioning Singapore in relation to the US-China rivalry and the changing international order; and (ii) tackling climate change as a collective action problem. Over many decades, vigilance research has consistently found that performance on vigilance tasks decline over time (i.e., the vigilance decrement; Davies & Parasuraman, 1982), and that performing a vigilance task is both mentally demanding and stressful (Warm et al., 2008). Researchers have subsequently implemented a wide range of interventions to both understand and attempt to attenuate the vigilance decrement and its associated affective effects. Among these efforts, little attention has been devoted to understanding the effects of the social environment on vigilance. [Introduction] The maritime industry has witnessed an increasingly loud call to contribute to the global trend towards environmentally sustainable practices in recent years. In this context, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set the ambitious goal to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from shipping by at least 50% by 2050, compared to levels in 2008. To achieve such dramatic reductions, research contributing to sustainable maritime shipping has flourished in recent years. The paper shares the strategies the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) adopted to provide access to electronic resources to its member libraries in COVID-19 pandemic era. Measures of the brain’s microstructure may be more sensitive markers of aging than macrostructural measures. However, it remains unclear exactly how gray matter microstructure changes during aging and how this relates to changes in macrostructure. The present study evaluated how neurite density, orientation dispersion, and gray matter volume changed over a three-year period in a sample of healthy older adults. The role of age in modifying structural change within the hippocampus, precuneus, and rostral anterior cingulate cortex was also considered. Contaminated urban soil is one of the major contributors to child Pb exposure. To gain a better understanding of Pb risk in urban areas, composite samples were collected from 142 residential, privately owned, parcels in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park, Michigan, with approval from the property owners. The proximity of soil sampling and former smelter locations were also reported. Sample were collected from areas covered with turf grass. Four samples were collected, one from each cardinal direction (north, south, east, and west), 20 cm from an aluminum tent stake driven into the center of the sampling site. Soils were collected …

However, when cities face economic and population decline, hardened infrastructure - such as drinking water distribution systems – is difficult and costly to modify. This dataset provides the results of a modeling exercise performed using EPANET (Version 2.2) to examine potential scenarios for rightsizing water infrastructure in a shrinking city. The modeling was performed utilizing a full-scale, calibrated hydraulic model of the drinking water distribution system in Flint, Michigan obtained through a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Flint and Wayne State University.

จากการศึกษา พบว่า นโยบายการจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติของรัฐ เช่น นโยบายทวงคืนผืนป่า การจัดที่ดินทำกินให้ชุมชนตามนโยบายรัฐบาล (คทช.) มาตรการการใช้ที่ดินในเขตลุ่มน้ำ เป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่ทำให้ชุมชนบ้านกลางและชุมชนบ้านแม่ฮ่างได้รับผลกระทบทำให้เกิดการสูญเสียที่ดินทำกิน การสูญเสียวิถีไร่หมุนเวียนที่มาแต่เดิม และมีการห้ามใช้ประโยชน์จากป่า ซึ่งผลกระทบที่ชุมชนได้รับนำมาสู่การปรับตัวและการต่อรอง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า การปรับตัวของชุมชนบ้านกลางและชุมชนบ้านแม่ฮ่างมีทั้งที่เป็นไปในลักษณะคล้ายคลึงกันและแตกต่างกัน การปรับตัวที่คล้ายคลึงกัน คือ การลดจำนวนปีของไร่หมุนเวียน และการลดขนาดพื้นที่แปลง หรือเลิกการทำไร่หมุนเวียน แต่ความแตกต่างคือชุมชนบ้านกลางยังคงยืนหยัดทำไร่หมุนเวียนอยู่แม้จะต้องปรับรูปแบบและรอบเวลา ในขณะที่ชุมชนบ้านแม่ฮ่างหันมาปลูกพืชเกษตรกรรมผสมผสานและนำการท่องเที่ยวมาเป็นแหล่งรายได้เสริม จึงนำมาสู่การต่อรองของชุมชนทั้งสอง ประกอบด้วยการเคลื่อนไหวชุมนุม การต่อรองผ่านสื่อออนไลน์ การจัดทำข้อมูลชุมชน และการจัดการทรัพยากรของชุมชน ซึ่งการต่อรองเหล่านี้เป็นการเรียกร้องสิทธิของชุมชน และแสดงให้เห็นถึงการยืนหยัดต่อสู้ในการรักษาอัตลักษณ์และวัฒนธรรมของตนเองที่ชุมชนพิสูจน์ว่าคนสามารถอยู่ร่วมกับป่าได้อย่างสมดุล ส่วนผลที่เกิดขึ้นหลังจากการปรับตัวและการต่อรองของชุมชน คือหน่วยงานรัฐประนีประนอมให้ชุมชนบ้านกลางและชุมชนบ้านแม่ฮ่างมีสิทธิในการเข้าถึงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ เช่น แบ่งพื้นที่ในการเข้าไปเก็บของป่าโดยไม่ต้องขออนุญาตแต่ต้องอยู่ในขอบเขตที่จำกัด และพื้นที่บางส่วนของชุมชนได้รับการกันออกจากพื้นที่เตรียมการประกาศอุทยานแห่งชาติถ้ำผาไท นอกจากนี้ทั้งสองชุมชนได้มีส่วนร่วมกับกรมป่าไม้ในการอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ เช่น การฟื้นฟูป่าไม้ การปลูกป่า รวมถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนและเรียนรู้ข้อมูลร่วมกันกับรัฐ ตลอดจนการบวชป่าที่รัฐได้เข้ามาร่วมพิธีกรรมด้วย ผลที่เกิดขึ้นทำให้รัฐไม่เข้ามาแทรกแซงการจัดการป่าของชุมชนมากนัก เนื่องจากเป็นประเพณีของชุมชนที่มีการสืบทอดต่อกันมาอย่างยาวนานและรัฐเริ่มเข้าใจในแนวทางการดูแลป่าตามแบบแผนของชุมชนมากขึ้น อย่างไรก็ดี รัฐก็ยังมีบทบาทหลักในการจัดการทรัพยากรผ่านกลไกของกฎหมายหรือนโยบาย และชุมชนยังไม่มีความมั่นคงในถิ่นที่อยู่อาศัยและที่ทำกิน ชุมชนบ้านกลางและชุมชนบ้านแม่ฮ่างยังเรียกร้องอย่างต่อเนื่องให้มีการจัดที่ดินทำกินให้กับชุมชนในรูปแบบโฉนดชุมชน และกระจายอำนาจการจัดการทรัพยากรสู่ชุมชนและองค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่น (อปท.) และถึงแม้บางส่วนของชุมชนบ้านกลางและชุมชนบ้านแม่ฮ่างจะได้รับการกันออกจากพื้นที่เตรียมประกาศอุทยานฯ แต่ยังมีพื้นที่ส่วนใหญ่ยังอยู่ภายในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติถ้ำผาไท โดยอยู่ในขั้นตอบการตรวจสอบสิทธิ์เป็นลำดับไป

จากการศึกษาวิจัยเรื่องนโยบายและการสร้างเครือข่ายลดความรุนแรงจากอาวุธปืน พบว่ามีนโยบายเกี่ยวกับการลดความรุนแรงจากอาวุธปืนมากมายหลายรูปแบบ โดยรูปแบบที่มีลักษณะชัดเจนและใช้ได้ผลจริงได้แก่ กฎหมายในรูปแบบใหม่ ๆ การนำนโยบายด้านสาธารณสุขมาปรับใช้ การใช้ชุมชนเป็นฐาน ส่วนนโยบายการป้องกันความรุนแรงจากอาวุธปืนที่เหมาะสมจะนำมาใช้กับประเทศไทยได้แก่ นโยบายที่ใช้ชุมชนและเครือข่ายเป็นฐาน นโยบายด้านการปรับพฤตินิสัยและสันติวิธี นโยบายด้านการใช้สื่ออย่างมีวิจารณญาณ นโยบายด้านการสาธารณสุขและสุขภาพจิต นโยบายการปราบปรามอาวุธปืนผิดกฎหมาย นโยบายด้านกฎหมายและการบังคับใช้กฎหมาย รวมถึงการสร้างชุมชนต้นแบบการลดความรุนแรงจากอาวุธปืนด้วยการทำข้อตกลงร่วมกันในชุมชน เรียกว่า “ธรรมนูญชุมชนลดความรุนแรงจากอาวุธปืน”

พิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์เป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้ที่มีศักยภาพในการเป็นสถานที่บ่มเพาะความรู้และแรงบันดาลใจทางวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยีและนวัตกรรมที่สนับสนุนยุทธศาสตร์การขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจของประเทศด้วยนวัตกรรมที่ช่วยเพิ่มมูลค่าสินค้า การดำเนินการภายใต้ยุทธศาสตร์นี้จำเป็นจะต้องให้ความสำคัญกับการพัฒนาแหล่งเรียนรู้ตลอดชีวิตทางวิทยาศาสตร์ให้มีลักษณะ รูปแบบและเนื้อหาของนิทรรศการให้สนองต่อการเรียนรู้และความต้องการของประชาชนผู้เข้าชม งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์ในการศึกษาระดับการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับนิทรรศการวิทยาศาสตร์ของผู้เข้าชมชาวไทย พร้อมทั้งปัจจัยบริบทที่มีผลต่อการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับสื่อการเรียนรู้ในนิทรรศการวิทยาศาสตร์ จากผู้เข้าชมกลุ่มครอบครัวจำนวน 25 คู่ (50 คน) ภายใต้บริบทของพิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติ ทั้งนี้เพื่อกำหนดขอบเขตความรู้ความเข้าใจในปัจจุบันเกี่ยวกับพฤติกรรมการเข้าชมที่บ่งชี้ระดับความลึกของการเรียนรู้ในเรื่องที่เกี่ยวกับนิทรรศการ ตลอดจนปัจจัยที่ผู้เข้าชมระบุว่าส่งผลต่อการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับนิทรรศการ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าผู้เข้าชมกลุ่มผู้ปกครองและกลุ่มบุตรหลานร้อยละ 80 ขึ้นไปมีระดับการปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อนิทรรศการอยู่ที่ระดับเปลี่ยนผ่านไปสู่ปฏิสัมพันธ์ที่ลึกขึ้น (Transitioning behavior) ถึงระดับปฏิสัมพันธ์ขั้นลึก (Breakthrough behavior) นอกจากนี้ผลการศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับนิทรรศการชี้ให้เห็นว่านิทรรศการวิทยาศาสตร์ในปัจจุบันต้องเพิ่มเติมเรื่องสื่อสารวิทยาศาสตร์ให้ผู้เข้าชมเข้าใจการประยุกต์ใช้วิทยาศาสตร์และความเกี่ยวข้องของวิทยาศาสตร์กับชีวิตประจำวันของตน รวมไปถึงการรักษาสมดุลการมอบความรู้และความบันเทิงในการออกแบบนิทรรศการ

ขบวนการเคลื่อนไหวของคนรุ่นใหม่ไทยปี 2563-2564 เป็นตัวอย่างขบวนการเคลื่อนไหวที่สามารถระดมการสนับสนุนของมวลชนคนรุ่นใหม่ได้จำนวนมาก แต่ไม่สามารถผลักดันข้อเรียกร้องในการรื้อถอนโครงสร้างและความเป็นอนุรักษ์นิยมของรัฐไทยได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรมดังที่ตั้งใจไว้ในช่วงเริ่มต้นการชุมนุม ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการล้มรัฐบาลที่นำโดยอดีตผู้นำการรัฐประหาร การแก้ไขรัฐธรรมนูญ หรือการปฏิรูปสถาบันกษัตริย์ แต่จากการวิจัยกลับพบว่า การเคลื่อนไหวของคนรุ่นใหม่ส่งผลกระทบและสร้างการเปลี่ยนแปลงต่อสังคมและการเมืองไทยในมิติอื่น ๆใน 5 มิติ ได้แก่ หนึ่ง การสร้างพลเมืองหนุ่มสาวที่มีความตื่นตัวและพร้อมผลักดันการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางการเมืองในระยะยาว สอง ความตื่นตัวอย่างต่อเนื่องของแกนนำเก่าและการสร้างแกนนำการเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองรุ่นใหม่ในการผลักดันการเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองในระยะต่อ ๆไป สาม ความสำเร็จในการผลักดันแนวคิดเสรีนิยมให้กลายเป็นแนวคิดกระแสหลักในสังคมวงกว้างทั้งในสื่อมวลชนและคนรุ่นอื่น ๆ สี่ ความสำเร็จในการสร้างความเป็นสถาบันให้กับพรรคการเมืองที่เป็นตัวแทนของคนรุ่นใหม่ และ ห้า การเปลี่ยนแปลงด้านกฎหมายและนโยบายในระยะยาว
